Hey there! Daniel West, here, with some great tips on mixing and layering wax beads to take your seals to the next level. If we graded this tutorial for difficulty, I would say it ranks a 5 out of 10. I prefer this method of layering seals to coloring them with a marker because it makes for a very sharp and clear seal impression with contrast. It also is permanent and won’t wipe off with your finger. Later in January, I will have a YouTube tutorial on my channel. Instructions for layering waxes on seals: Warm your seal a bit over the flame of your votive candle or just let it stay in the melted wax for a good minute to allow the wax to wipe off after the first dip. Be ready with your palette knife to clean up the seal after the first dip. Dip your wax seal into the melted wax you want to layer over the poured wax. Scrape the seal along the edge of the spoon, then use the palette knife to take off any excess wax on the edges and flat part of the seal. This will take some practice, but it’s super relaxing and you can get into a zone doing it. Set the seal aside to cool completely. Then, clean out your spoon with a napkin and melt the beads you want for the base of your seal. Here, you can make the seal marbled with different colors or shades of the same color! Pour your bottom layer out on your rubber mat and place your pre-waxed and cooled seal into the hot wax as you normally would. Let it cool down completely, then remove your seal to reveal your glorious layered wax seal. For all of my projects, I used the Criss Cross Motif 3D Embossing Folder for a background. I used the Mighty Mister Spray Bottle to moisten each panel of cardstock prior to running it through my Platinum 6 Machine. The BetterPress Spring Collection Pressed Posies came in handy on each card, as well. I just inked up the plates with BetterPress Black Ink and pressed them into BetterPress Porcelain A2 Cotton Card Panels. Then, I cut them out with their coordinating dies. I did the same with the BetterPress You Are Everything Sentiments Press Plate to create sentiments for two of the cards. Just Because Project For the “Just Because” card, I embossed the white cardstock, tore it in half at an angle, and adhered it to the front of an A2-sized white card base with liquid adhesive. Then, I die cut the Sealed Berry Sprig and the Sealed Twine dies out of Brushed Black Cardstock. Next, I stacked the sprig, a flower and petals from the Pressed Posies die cuts, and the Sealed Twine onto the front of the card with liquid adhesive. I also connected the back of the twin die cut with liquid glue, wrapping it around the back of the card. Finally, I created the wax seal using the process above and the white beads on top of the black one from the Must Have Wax Bead and Mix and the Timeless Blooms Wax Seal. I finished it off with the Just Because Sentiment, popped up with foam tape and some iridescent embellishments. I Am So Sorry Project For this “I Am So Sorry” card, I used the same process but switched out the colors of the cardstock to match the seal I had created. This seal features the Teal Mix beads, but I darkened up the base by melting in one of the Ink Wax Beads. I love the light teal over dark teal on this one and the mix of teals in the base. Made With Love Project Here, I used Brushed Black cardstock for the background and separated the sprigs and flowers from it with a circle of Mirror Gold cardstock. I also added a swipe of gold metallic ink. The seal for this one came together with the gold wax over the black wax beads from the Basic Must-Have Mix. It’s quite a stunner with a gold-foiled sentiment strip split in two and tucked underneath. I had created a bunch of these sentiments back in November when this Glimmer of the Month came out. So I fished it out of the storage pocket, trimmed off the flag ends and popped them up by the seal. I finished it all off with some gold embellishments. Other Supplies Embellishments, liquid adhesive.

Hello! I got my new On The Strip stamp set from Neat And Tangled in the mail yesterday. It's super awesome! And it's even extra awesome cuz I won it from the Little Tangles challenge. :) Yay! I started by stamping the talk bubble from A Lot To Say on Post-It paper to make a mask. I trimmed around it leaving a border. I adhered it to my cardstock, and then stamped the heart stripes from On The Strip over it. I stamped them with Pale Tomato, Fresh Peach, and Soft Cantaloupe Hero Arts Shadow Inks. After I had them stamped I peeled up the mask. Then I stamped the talk bubble from A Lot To Say in the masked area. And then I cut out my window for the shaker. I stamped the greeting from the Just Thinking Of You set with Charcoal Hero Arts Shadow Ink. Then I filled my window with Pretty Pretty Pink, Just Peachy, and Tangerine sequins. I made this for the new Little Tangles challenge which is to use washi tape. But, believe it or not, I only have one roll {and I can't find it}... So I used this stamp set because it's washi-ish. :) ♥ Nikki ♥

The brand new Sweet Treats and Strawberry Fields Sparkle Blend mixes just released by Doodles Paper Playground are so sweet and luscious they inspired me to make this ice cream shaker card. I started with a die and layered stamp set from Sunny Studio that creates ice cream cones that look good enough to eat! I die cut the ice cream parts of two of them and created shakers with Strawberry Fields Sparkle Blend on the left and Sweet Treats Sparkle Blend on the right. Here is another look at the card "all shook up": All week long on my blog I have been featuring a neglected texture tool we all have - embossing folders - and I showed how to make this shaker card in my just released video: I was totally inspired (and enabled to get the super cute set of dies and stamps from Lawn Fawn) by an awesome card posted earlier on the DPP blog by another dt member. I show how to make this card from start to finish in my latest video here. I used a Tim Holtz Sizzix Diffuser, an embossing folder from WeR Memory Keepers and Crown Jewels Sparkle Blends to fill up the cute little shaker. I am entering the first card in the Bright and Cheerful challenge at Simon Says Stamp Wednesday and the Anything Goes challenge at Scrapy Land.
Happy Easter everyone. Jennifer Snyder here sharing my Easter shaker cards made with the new shaker chipboard sets from Creative Embellishments. Do you love shaker cards? I must say I am absolutely obsessed with making them. They are always fun to make, fun to receive and create smile. Nothing like knowing you are making a card that will bring joy to someone. Creative Embellishments also has a fabulous variety of new shaker card designs. The sets come with a pre-cut and perfectly sized acrylic piece to cover the shaker. That's really important because the acrylic piece is the most critical and difficult part to create when making a shaker at home. I used the Bunny and the Egg shapes for my cards today. ********************************************************************************* Creative Embellishments - Bunny Shaker Set Creative Embellishments - Shaker Set Creative Embellishments - Egg Shaker Set ********************************************************************************* This is a close up of the bunny shaker card. I painted all chipboard pieces with ivory acrylic paint, and added some pink cardstock for bunny ears and nose. Wondering what to use for shaker filler? OK so now you have your shaker card made and you are ready to fill it. Don't sit at your crafty desk and look around for little bits. You have easy options! I filled with sequins and crystals from Buttons Galore - Sparkletz. They have an assortment of colors and bits for the perfect filler. A second option is using wood veneer pieces from Creative Embellishments (I used these in the egg shaker card - keep scrolling down). TIP: Add your filler then use a good adhesive to seal the shaker with the pre-cut acrylic piece that comes in the kit. I used Beacons 3-in-1glue because it dries clear and works well with a variety of surfaces ( acrylics, plastics, wood, metal, fabric, canvas). The paper used on these cards is Doodlebug Design - Bunnyville 6x6 collection. Totally adorable patterns for Easter. Doodlebug Design - Bunnyville Collection - 6 x 6 Paper Pad from: Scrapbook.com Here is the second card created. This is the traditional egg form painted with acrylic paints, then trimmed on the inside with lace and patterned paper for some egg-stra fancy embellishing. I filled the egg card with adorable wood veneer pieces from Creative Embellishments. They are perfectly sized to use as shaker card filler. I simply painted with acrylic paints to look like traditional Easter candy - marshmallow peeps and jelly beans. Creative Embellishments -Easter Candy - Wood Veneer Thanks for stopping here today. Hi there Queen & Co fans, Kim here with a few ideas to inspire those love cards needed for next month! These ideas are super in that they are designed using product you might already have in your Queen & Company stash or if not, they are available in our online store! The first card, Hello Love, was styled using the Shaker Tag dies and foam set. The purple and aqua color scheme compliment the pretty pastel fillers. I love how the minimalist white and silver glitter strip make it sweet and full of love, perfect for any recipient. My next card, Love You, was made using Snow Globe Stamp & Shaker set (new stock available in the store soon), AND the Pop Up Dies- 8 circles. A white globe really makes the pink and white fillers and charcoal sentiment pop. To coordinate I stamped the globe base in pastel pink. Felt flowers and die cut heart complete the embellishments. These cards are eye catching and simple enough to create in a little over an hour. I hope you have been inspired! Happy crafting friends. ~Kim Supplies used: Snow Globe Stamp & Shaker set, Pop Up Dies- 8 circles, Shaped Shaker Tags, 6x6 Paper Pads, Felt Flowers, Pearlies Bright Toppings, Word Dies, Button Bouquet

One of my favorite releases from CHA is the new line from Jillibean Soup called, Shape Shakers! Imagine the squeals of delight coming from me as I opened the box and began creating samples for CHA! Shape Shakers is a ridiculously brilliant idea for making shaker cards. You can buy different shaped and sized plastic shaker pouches, sequins, stamps and dies, and it gets better, SHAPED CARD BASES! Yes, the bases are pre-cut so your plastic shaker pouch fits perfectly! Here is a look at the entire line above. Click the image to make it larger, so you can see all the fun there is to be had when creating shaker cards with this line! Or, for an even better look, head to the Jillibean Soup Blog. The great part about these shaker pouches is how deep they are! They are able to hold quite a bit of fun, and opens up your shaker filling options. Inside this Large Circle I placed sequins, die cut shapes, and wood veneer shapes. The Shape Shakers are meant to be adhered to the inside of the card, making filling and adhering your Shape Shaker easy! This card also features the Large Circle shaker. To layer the papers on the outside, I found a circle die in my collection that was the same size as my pouch. Punches would work too. Inside this shaker, I used Bean Board Alphas. Fun for a teacher! This is the Small Circle shaker. Once again, I utilized a die in my collection that could cut the perfect circle in my patterned paper layers. I found a balloon die cut image that fit inside the Small Circle shaker. To keep the string, I simply trimmed it away and adhered it to the front of the card. To add the other balloon images, I traced the circle opening in the card base onto the balloons and cut them with scissors. There are stamps that perfectly line up with the openings! I used the scallop square image around the Square shaker. There are also flower images and sentiments to coordinate as well! Inside this shaker are wood veneers, sequins, and seed beads. You don't have to use the card bases as bases. On this gift bag, I made a large tag by die cutting a pennant shape from the front of the card base. Stamped images from the coordinating stamp sets helped finish off the bag. I thought it would be fun to create a shaped shaker tag. I grabbed the Jar shaker and traced the outside of the plastic onto a piece of patterned paper. Once cut with scissors, on the inside of the jar shape, I stamped the jar outline, jar lid, and a couple of hearts. The butterflies were stamped separately, colored, and cut out with scissors. Along with the butterflies, wood veneer hearts were added to the inside. The adorable sentiment was stamped onto a label sticker and stuck to the front. I used a strong hole punch (to get through the plastic of the shaker and the paper) to create a place to tie baker's twine through. While I was making shaped tags, why not take those shapes and make a bunting?! Wouldn't this be adorable at a baby shower?! Again, I traced the plastic Shape Shaker onto patterned paper and cut it out with scissors. How cute are the clouds and stars?! Small clothespins held the shaped shakers onto a piece of baker's twine easily. And finally, what has to be my favorite project, wands. Who doesn't want a magic wand?! One that shakes?! I traced the Star Shaker onto patterned paper. I stamped the coordinating star image on the paper after tracing. The shakers were all filled to the brim with sequins. I tied several trims around the paper straws I adhered the shakers to. On one of the wands, I added the stamped words, make a wish, also from a coordinating stamp set. Who else is excited about these?! What will you make with your Shape Shakers?!?! Keep an eye out for the Shape Shaker collection at your local scrapbooking store. Hi Friends! Thanks for joining me today. I've got a batch of sweet creations to share with you, inspired by Summertime festivities - in particular - my favorite thing ever - carnivals! I love the sights, sounds, and the aroma of all the deelish, and terribly bad-for-you food - my favorite being cotton candy! It reminds me of my childhood and rides on the merry-go-round and yoyo. Oh to be a kiddo again! It's been a while since I've visited the fair, but these last few days the exhibition has been in town and we've driven by a few times, and it just got me thinking about whipping up some cards inspired by the pretty colors and sights. So without further ado, here are a few little treat baggies inspired by all the marvel that carnivals bring! The first treat baggie is actually a card, with a glassine front, that can be filled with sweet confections of all sorts. I added the two straws because I thought they would make a cute way to display a little treat - one that can be skewered perhaps. To create the card, I started with a cardstock base, and cut a scalloped circle using PTI's Scene It: Basic Backer Die. Inside, I tucked and glued a glassine bag, and a piece of pink cardstock to cover the hole. At the bottom, I layered some washi tape, diecut hearts from PTI's Heart Border die, and some scalloped borders with textured paste (for a full post on this technique, click here). Along the glassine bag, I assembled several stamped and cut starts from Close To My Heart's sweetest new stamp set, Little Dreamer. I can't wait to use the unicorn in this set! He's loaded with attitude! The thank you diecut is from Papertrey Ink, Wonderful Words: Thank You. At the bottom, I added a stamped rosette (reminds me of pretty ribbon awards at the fair) and a sentiment. This next treat bag is a little pouch, created with PTI's Seed Packet Die and some striped patterned paper. For the pops of color, I added a bit of aqua washi tape, some lilac paper and a shaker star. Sadly, I don't have any shaker dies, but I do have plenty of nesting dies that I thought would work perfectly for making a DIY shaker! To create the shaker star, I used Papertrey Ink's Seeing Stars die collection, and here is what I did: 1. Using the largest star, I cut a piece of sturdy cardstock 2. Using the largest and second largest star, I cut another star out of cardstock, but then nested the smaller star within and cut out the middle part, so that I would only be left with the star border. To position everything, I used bits of washi tape, which is my lifesaver!!! 3. I used the largest star to cut out a piece of acetate 4. I glued the acetate to the piece from #2 with some hot glue 5. I then used a chunky bead of hot glue to glue the two pieces together (piece from #1 and #4), leaving a small portion unglued so I could tuck in sequins. The reason I used a chunky bead, is because I wanted there to be dimension between the two layers to allow for plenty of filling. Note: when working with the hot glue, do not squish the stars together, rather gently press them in place, allowing for the glue to dry. Otherwise, you will end up with hot mess! Trust me! 6. Once glued together and dried, add the itty bits, and glue the last little opening with just enough glue to hold everything in place - this step is a bit tricky and it helps to have a toothpick handy to push all glue inside while it's still hot. Be warned, this technique can get messy, but I hope you'll give it a try! The last pouch is actually an envelope that I've decorated, but it's big enough to hold a lot more than just a note...I started with a blush envelope, and layered a piece of cardstock with a scallop cut-out, using PTI's Scene It Basic Backer die. I backed it with some lilac paper, and a lot of lovely layers of Shower Flowers. For the stamping, I used Hibiscus Burst, Melon Berry, Berry Sorbet, Hawaiian Shores, Vintage Jadeite, Simply Chartreuse, Blueberry Sky, and Bright Buttercup. I wanted some movement in the card, so I added some liquid pearls and a few little stamped dots. So fun making these cotton candy creations. AND they're all ready to go, in the shoppe! Hope you'll join me again soon for more colorful cards! Ivana p.s. Thank you all for the lovely comments on the last post!! I am so glad you all got my notes and so very grateful you're all here. Waving a big hello :)

I received product from Stampin' Up in exchange for this post, but, as always, all opinions are 100% mine. Hey, y'all! Earlier this week, I shared my love for shaker cards with y'all. You seemed to love my Handmade Mason Jar Shaker Card just as much as I did, so today I wanted to share another shaker project with you. I'm calling today's project my Handmade Shaker Bookmark. The great thing about this shaker bookmark is that it can double as a card. Send one of these cuties in the mail to a friend. Rather than having a handmade card she feels badly about trashing or either doesn't know where to put after she reads, your friend can tuck this inside of a book. Every time she opens the book, she'll be reminded of what a thoughtful friend you are! To create one of these shaker bookmarks, you'll need some supplies. I'll list them below, including a link to where you can find some of them. Supplies: Shine On Specialty Designer Series Paper by Stampin' Up Endless Birthday Wishes Photopolymer Stamp Set Clear Acrylic Block StazOn Ink Pad in Jet Black VersaMark Watermark Stamping Pad Embossing Buddy Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder Heat Tool Clear Packaging or Clear Page Protector Sewing Machine & Thread Sequins, Micro Beads, Chunky Glitter, etc. Crop-A-Dile Rivets Baker's Twine First, cut a piece of the Shine On paper to your desired bookmark size. The cool feature about this lovely paper from Stampin' Up is that one side has a bright colored print and the other side has a shiny silver print. I chose to use the colored side to stamp on. Once your paper is cut to size, use the StazOn ink pad and the Endless Birthday Wishes stamp set to stamp a fun phrase on the bookmark. I stamped a phrase that I thought would be something someone would be glad too look at all year long: "It's all about lovely you." Next, it's time to emboss. I have just recently entered the world of embossing, and I feel like I'm doing magic every time! Before I started stamping to emboss, I rubbed the Stampin' Up Embossing Buddy over my paper. This little tool helps ensure that stray glitter or embossing powder doesn't stick to random parts of your paper. I re-stamped my phrase and cake using VersaMark ink. I covered the ink with Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder and heated it with a heat tool. Then I recycled the clear packaging my paper was in. How? I cut a piece big enough to cover my bookmark and sewed it onto the bookmark, making sure to leave the top open. Note: The packaging worked fine, but I made a few more bookmarks later, and I think I prefer using a clear page protector instead of the clear packaging. I filled the little pocket I created with sequins, chunky glitter, micro beads, and extra fine glitter. (I would not recommend using the extra fine glitter though because it stuck to the plastic too much in my opinion.) Then I sewed the pocket closed and sewed around the bookmark a couple more times. Next I used my Crop-A-Dile to punch a hole at the top of the bookmark and to insert a rivet. I created a tassel using baker's twine. (Check out this post see how to make a tassel.) I attached the tassel to the bookmark through the riveted hole to complete my shaker bookmark. I like the way the bookmark turned out, but I wasn't a fan of the extra fine glitter, so I made two more shaker bookmarks because I'm stubborn like that and have to get something just right before I can let it rest. Like I mentioned earlier, for these two I used clear page protectors instead of the clear packaging, and I like the way they turned out much better! It's so fun to shake these cuties in the sunlight and watch them sparkle! I think anyone would be excited to receive a shaker bookmark like this in the mail. I know I would!
