Born in Salem, Massachusetts, Frank Benson was a painter of impressionist seascapes and landscapes, often with figures posed by his wife and children.
Allen W. Seaby (1867-1953) was influenced by pioneer woodblock printmaker Frank Morley Fletcher and was a Professor of Fine Art at the University of Reading from 1920 to 1933. He is well known for his many book illustrations and woodblock prints of birds. This spectacular image of Stonehenge is simple in concept, but quite complicated in execution. His work captures the brush-drawn quality of Japanese woodblock prints perhaps more than any other Western artist.
