In a late Thursday evening in July, we went by bus from Ljubljana's main bus station to Munich. We were driving for 6 hours and we arrived in ZOB Munich at 5:30 AM. ZOB Munich We decided to go on a walk around the city and the morning was just perfect for that. First of all we decided to went to the endless stairs. So we went across bridge and suddenly start gently raining, but the rain fortunately stopped very quickly. After a short walk, we have arrived to endless stairs. These stairs were made by Danish artist Olafur Eliasson. They are 9 meters high and free to see. So if you are somewhere close and you love modern art I will definetly recommed you to visit. After that, we continued our way to the Bavariapark which is close to the Thesesienwiese, where it goes the most popular festival in Munich - Oktoberfest. In the time of our visit, there was a construction site so we couldn't go to close. Then we went by to the Karlsplatz till Marienplatz. On our way we can saw that Munich's streets are very beautiful. There you can see a lot of different flowers. Because it wasn't even 8 AM there weren't many people on the streets. But it was very nice to see city empty. Early at the morning, it is also good time for taking photos especially in the places where is often very croudy. Marienplatz is a central square in the city center. It’s the city’s main square since 1158. It's a must visit. The square has a column called the Marian column, that was built in 1638 to celebrate the end of Swedish occupation. The column is topped by a gold statue of Mother Mary and hence the name Marienplatz (Mary’s Square). Later we decide to went to Victuals Market (Viktualienmarkt). Viktualienmarkt There we bought famous pretzel for snack. It was very tasty but way too salty. Pretzel Marienplatz form top of the tower Because it was already almost 10 AM we went to the St Paul's church. At 10 AM they open entance to the tower. You must pay 3 €, for students is 2 €. There are 300 srairs. It was definetly worth it. The view from top is amazing. We could also see the Alps. More photos from up here you can find on our instagram. I really recommend you visit this tower. If you wanna see city from up there, but you can't walk, you can go up in a tower in Marienplatz where is an elevator. There you have to pay 1 € more than here. After we went back to the Marienplatz because at 11 AM there is a short show starts. It's a miniature knight show, where every day at 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. the watch tower chimes and re-enacts two stories from the 16th century. The show lasts about 10 minutes, so make sure that you are here at 11:00 AM or 12:00 PM and watch this free show. Then we went to our hotel which was located around 15 min by walk from Marienplatz, 5 min from the English garden and 3 min away from Isar river. We stayed in Hotel Mona Lisa. Click HERE for make a reservation and after your stay you will get 10% of price back. Isn't that cool. In our comfortable room, we rest a little bit and after that, we went to the English garden. First we stopped in the very beggining of the park. There is a wave where you can surf. The place is called Eisbachwelle. Than we continued our way against to Monopteros im Englischen Garten. Monopteros View from Monopteros Lake This park is really huge. We were walking to the lake. There we stopped a little bit and also to play some cards. Then we went back against the Isar river. We were crossing bridge Luitpoldbrücke and took a look a Friedensengel. We walked through a beautiful park called Maximiliansanlagen till Maximilianeum. Maximilianeum Pizzesco Because we were already very hungry we decide that we went to eat to Pizzesco, which wasn’t far. There we ordered pizzas. They also have gluten-free pizzas. You can take away or eat there. We decided that we are gonna eat there. Staff was so kind. Our pizzas were very tasty. Pizza Gluten-free pizza Isar river After our dinner, we went across the bridge by Deutsches Museum on an island on the river. We walked on a nice path right next to the river. If we compare with other European cities water in the Isar river is very clean (but still not like in our beautiful Slovenia). :) Because it’s got late we went to our hotel where we quickly fall in sleep. Next Saturday morning we decide to went by walk all till Schloss Nymphenburg where is a big park. Google shows us that it is 1h 30 min by walk. On our way, we stopped in every close park, because (if you didn’t realize yet) we love parks. We went by Hofgarten, Maximiliansplatz, Alter Botanischer Garten and Hirschgarten. Hofgarten Flowers in Hofgarten All parks in Munich are so gorgeous. There is a lot of flowers, big trees who give very thick shade and we also found a lot of fountains. Alter Botanischer Garten Hirschgarten After 3 h we finally arrived in front of Schloss Nymphenburg. This building is really stunning. Schloss Nymphenburg We didn’t go inside. For us, the most important thing is …? -Park! Of course. First, we stopped on a bench to rest a little bit. There is a lot of benches, so we can easily find a free one. Later we decide to go around a little bit. The whole park it’s more look like a forest in the middle of Munich, than the park we’re used to. Because we are coming from villages (and Slovenia have small towns) we are actually very close to the forest. But we believe that for people from very big cities around the world this is very impressive. We went to both lakes (Kleiner see and Badenburger see) and then slowly back to our hotel. Because it was early afternoon was pretty hot and also our legs won’t survive that long walk back, we went to the closest underground stop and we were driving until center. On our way to the hotel, we stopped also in shopping center Funf Hofe, but only because of their ceiling. All those plants and reflextion of lights in the glass look really beautiful. Because wasn’t that late we went to the closest supermarket, where we bought a watermelon and then we went to the Isar river, where we spend the rest of that Saturday. Sunday morning (unfortunately rainy) was also our last morning in Munich. Because we already took a look at all the things that we set ourselves, we decided that just walk through the city center till ZOB Munich. Because of the rain, there wasn’t a lot of people outside. Right before leaving this beautiful Bavarian city we went to eat to Vapiano which is located in ZOB. They prepare food right in front of you, so you can watch. Staff was very kind. They also offer gluten-free food. Unfortunately, our time in Munich passed away, and we have to leave. All in all, it was an unforgettable weekend trip. We’re sure that we will come again. And for the very end 2 more photos. Left one was taken at 7:30 AM and the rigrt one was taken at 4:30 PM. -M. All photos in this post were taken by us. This post isn't sponsored. Explore #221 The second-oldest monastery in Prague, Strahov was founded high above Malá Strana in 1143 by Vladislav II. It's still home to Premonstratensian monks, a scholarly order closely related to the Jesuits, and their dormitories and refectory are off-limits. What draws visitors are the monastery's ornate libraries. Over the centuries, the monks have assembled one of the world's best collections of philosophical and theological texts, including illuminated (decorated with colored designs) manuscripts and first editions. There are more than 42 000 old prints. The rich wood-accented Philosophical Library's 14m-high (46-ft.) ceiling is decorated with a 1794 fresco entitled The Struggle of Mankind to Know Real Wisdom, by A. F. Maulpertsch, a Viennese master of rococo. Intricate woodwork frames the immense collection of books. View On Black
