Cables and I have long had a deep, loving relationship that I refer to as a “cableship”. I bring the yarn and needles, while the cables bring the power to make my heart sing! This toe up sock pattern is full of great cable techniques, but also includes the German Short Row Heel and Russian Bind Off. I designed Cableship to showcase the vibrant hues of Zauberball sock yarn. The sock knits up beautifully in every shade of this rich, gradient yarn. My video tutorials make the sock knitting a snap. The only hard part will be choosing just one color of Zauberball! - Michelle Hunter- Materials: Zauberball, 75%wool/25%nylon, 100g/459 yards, 1 skein Needles: US #2 (2.75mm) or size to achieve desired gauge. If you think Garter Stitch is boring, think again! In this piece, garter stitch is worked in alternate needle sizes for a lovely, wispy summer look. The lightness of the finished fabric allows the poncho to flow along with the summer breeze, just as the colors flow into each other; a result of double stranding the yarn when using the smaller needle size. Fringes are worked in as you knit your piece, as well as being added on at the end. Suggested yarn: HiKoo® by skacel Rylie 1 hank each of 5 colors Yarn weight: Sport Gauge: Gauge is not crucial Needle size: US 6 - 4.0 mm, US 15 - 10.0 mm Yardage: 1370 yards (1253 m) Sizes available: One Size - approx 46” wide (without fringe) x 36” long Pattern Only! Note: The Garter Stitch in this piece is worked with small and a large needle size for what is commonly known as Condo-Knitting. Different rows are knit with different sized needles, creating a unique fabric that is loose and flowing yet stable at the same time. Because of the nature of this stitch, it is difficult to determine an exact gauge. Fortunately it is a poncho, so exact measurements are not necessary. There are photos on the last page of this pattern that show the stitch up close. You will notice some stitches are very large, others are very small. Don’t kill yourself trying to get an exact gauge. Try to get as close to gauge as possible – and be happy!

A toe-up sock in two sizes. The 6 row slip-stitch pattern in two colours resembles a row of saw teeth. Four skeins of this yarn will make two pairs of socks, one in each size. If you plan to make only one pair, you may made need more than two skeins for the larger size. The socks are knit toe-up using a Turkish cast-on, or Judy Becker’s Magic Cast-on and is knit with a circular needle although practiced knitters can adapt the pattern to two circulars or four needles. These socks are named in honor of my father and mother. When I discovered the simple slip stitch pattern used to knit them it reminded me of saw teeth. That and the color of the yarn I used reminded me of the orange bucksaw my father and mother used to prepare logs for our wood-burning furnace. They cut up hundreds of logs over the years to keep their family warm, and that saw was always at hand to do the job. You can enjoy the warmth of these socks without having to saw your own wood, and they will look good in a myriad of color combinations. Let your fancy take you. The heel of this sock uses a unique short row construction without wraps, and yet the construction yields a firm heel with no gaps or holes. It is easy to work and creates an elegant heel that hugs the foot. - Nigel Pottle Yarn Suggested: Hikoo CoBaSi Yarn Weight: Light Fingering Yardage: 400 - 440 yards (366 - 402 m) Needle Size: US 1 - 2.25 mm Gauge: 20 stitches and 32 rows = 2 inches Sizes: Unisex, but the smaller size will fit a small woman's or a child's foot and the larger size will fit a medium sized man's foot or large woman's foot.
