Please is a rather overlooked word. Even adults easily forget to use the word, Please. Gimmie is the real favorite amongst children. Gimmie is a bit of a bully, pushing Please into the background and making Please feel unimportant and insignificant. Robbie’s a little boy who has a particular problem with Please. He would much rather use Gimmie to get what he wants. Bullied, disrespected, and ignored, Please decides to take a day off and Please sleeps in. But it’s a day when Robbie needs Please the most because Grandma’s not going to let Robbie have any cookies until he says Please. And Robbie loves Grandma’s cookies. The other words try to get Please to take a stand, but Please has given in to the bully, Gimmie, and is just sleeping this day away. So, poor Robbie doesn’t get any cookies. Not until Please takes a definitive stand against the bully, Gimmie. Leah Pugh’s picture book story, The Day Please Slept In, is a clever way to teach young people their manners. It also introduces the much-talked-about concern amongst children: bullying. The story has a definite plot that progresses through Robbie’s story and the story of Please and the bully, Gimmie. Accompanied by colorful illustrations, this tale really packs a punch and provides a powerful message to young readers: don’t give in to bullies and remember your manners and the ever-powerful word, Please. I loved the way the author made Please and Gimmie (and several other words) into animate creatures that could communicate amongst themselves and provide their own side of the story. This will definitely appeal to young readers. Well done!
Several of the founding fathers visited Connecticut regularly, and George Washington slept in Connecticut at this historic home.
While sleeping we are half dead, we don't control our bodies while sleeping, and sometimes it turns out to be funny. For instance, did you know that sperm whales and walruses sleep “standing still” in the water. And we all thought that cats are the weirdest sleepers on Earth because they can sleep anywhere and everywhere.
Sleeping in a beehive in Slovenia was quite the experience. We spent a night in a small cabin that had bees living in the walls, & it was amazing!
The little boy couldn't believe his eyes when he woke up one morning and didn't see the sun soaring in the sky. He began to wonder if the sun sank because it got heavy. He thought of other possibilities like maybe the sun stopped to talk to the moon or got lost or took sick leave or floated away like a balloon. Suddenly the boy realized the sun must be still sleeping and he had to wake up the sun. No one around him knew how to wake up the sun. The little boy thought of many things, like taking a plane and flying to the stars or joining the astronauts when they head to Mars so that he could wake up the sun. Will he finally be able to see the sun? The Day The Sun Slept In by Heather Danielle is the adorable story of a little boy who wants to see the sun shining and keeps wondering why the sun is not there when he does not see it. The author's illustrations are as adorable as the little boy and the story, and will bring out the imaginative and creative side of readers. The images also breathe life into the characters and the scenes, making them vivid. It is a good story to read out in classrooms for read aloud and storytelling sessions because it will motivate and encourage children to be more imaginative and think outside the box. Stories like this are good for children to make them wonder and think differently.
Like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, someone had slept in my hotel room while I was away. Here’s what to do if this happens to you.
