12 months ago we planted this seed and started growing our Patches of Blue Quilt-A-Long. There were so many beautiful quilt blocks in our Patches of Blue book to inspire and make, 1. 1. it was hard to wrap my arms around them all. No less, I picked a few of my favorites and you were so kind to quilt along with me, I am so thankful for that! January 2018 – While the ground was still covered in snow and Frost we started our first block. February 2018 – We got our sweetheart a Gift Basket. Marc
I managed to get some beautiful photos of my log cabin block quilt and thought I would post a gallery here. The #sunnylogcabinsal hosted by my friends at Sunny Day Supply has been so much fun not o…
Everything You Need to Know About Fussy Cuts! Fussy Cuts. What an interesting term, but what does it mean exactly? It means being fussy about how you cut your fabric (sorry, couldn’t resist!). Specifically, it means cutting so you’re showcasing a part of the fabric print in the center of the piece you cut. You’ll …

Remember my stack of fabric from last week? It’s now a quilt top. This is one of two quilts I promised myself I’d make in/for the fall. I intended to do it in September, but as you can see, I’m running behind. The pattern I used is Merry-Go-Round by American Jane . I also bought their set of equilateral rulers [...]

Hey Everyone! Life is crazy right now for us Moda Designers…getting ready for the big dance.- Spring Quilt Market…we are traveling to St. Louis and Oh what fun we will have now that all…
Laundry can be fun! My laundry room features a wall of small quilts that I have made over the year. Most of them have been made using an antique doll quilt as inspiration. A lot of them are featured in this book. The quilt in the top left corner is a favorite. You can find the pattern in our Collection of Small Vintage Quilts. See the little quilt folded on the top of the basket? That is my mothers doll quilt and has here named embroidered on the back - so special. I use little tiny nails to attach yardsticks to wall. Leave the heads sticking out so you can hook the nail into the binding between the stitches.

Oh how I love to quilt feathers. This was the perfect opportunity for me to load up a quilt with feathers. Look at the tiny 1/2 sq triangl...
Are you ready for more quilt show eye candy?? My friends Cheryl and Marilyn do such beautiful work! This wall handing is exquisitely pieced by Cheryl and masterfully machine quilted by Marilyn. I wish my close up had not been completely blurry so you could see more closely the 3-D white corner triangles! This quilt won the color use award in addition to an Honorable Mention...my favorite colors! I love "bug jar" quilts...this is the first time I ever saw the jars in a cupboard. I like these buzz saw looking quilts...it's on my scrappy bucket list... Another powerful pattern and quilt I have never heard of..."California Nites." There were two of these at the show, the other one in a more neutral palette, which I forgot to take a picture of (I was in a "quilt show fog") . Cool lilies... This basket quilt had a lot of embroidery and bead embellishment... Around the corner, again...arghh... I like the variety of finished block-of-the-month quilts at this show... I should have gotten a few close-ups of this quilt...it won for best machine quilting... Nice purples... Another from my friend Cheryl, I LOVE the colors and pattern on this one... I love pieced basket blocks... Kim Diehl was the featured teacher during the week...I was hoping to see quilts from her patterns... It's always fun to see a Robert Callahan quilt... "Sweet Sixteen"...Edyta Sitar quilts are EVERYWHERE at this show this year...all so pretty! I have little tubs of 30's prints in the quilt cave that started vibrating (even though I wasn't home to see it) when I saw this quilt. It was so beautiful. A large feathered star quilt block is on my bucket list...perhaps as the center medallion in a larger quilt. A Lori Smith pattern... I love, love, love this quilt...I've got to find this pattern... My friend Norma made this pretty stitched quilt. Buddy Mary made and taught this block-of-the-month quilt, "Vintage Rouge." Mary also made this stitched beauty, "Vintage Tin." I REALLY like this block-of-the-month quilt...even though it has northern motifs, I'd like to make it for a southern relative...maybe I could substitute a possum and Big Foot for blocks in the quilt containing motifs not seen down south... This was such a sweet quilt in person! I really loved all the little touches and the color palette. This quilt satisfied my "Love Jones" for all things log cabin. Very cool dog quilt...the colors reminded me of one of my favorite movies, EVER, "Ghostbusters" (where Rick Moranis' character's head was hooked up to a monitor, showing his inner specter). Somehow I missed getting the picture of the whole quilt on this one...I was so taken with each block. Edyta Sitar was sure a hit at this show! Here's another one... Ole Sue gets a modern fabric make-over... Sorry about my photography from this year's show...it was more blurry, crooked, and incomplete than usual. Happy Mother's Day!
On Tuesday we had our annual Singapore Quilter's Lunch. Instead of the traditional Quilt Challenge, this year we had a quilt show of our favorite quilts. And when I say quilt show, it is probably stretching it a bit as it was a very low key affair. Here are some of my favorites: The lady who made this lantern quilt said she based it on my Chinese Lantern quilt I made for last year's challenge. It made my day! My friend Jeanette's stunning Christmas Tree Skirt. Look at those details. This quilt is made by my friend Anne. She designed it and it is the same as the friendship quilt my Thursday group made for me when I left Singapore the first time. And this is mine. I wasn't able to take a complete photo as it was hanging in a narrow gangway. Lovely Autumn colours. I also love this Japanese quilt. It was once featured as a BOM in a Japanese magazine and I've collected all the patterns as well as the fabrics to go with. One of these days I'll get to it! And here is the same quilt but in a different setting. This was probably my favorite of all the quilts. Unfortunately the picture doesn't do it credit. So not much time for sewing, but I managed to make the last block for the Blogger's BOM designed by Sarah Fielke. Although it was a bit fiddly, it's definitely my favorite block. I've now made 12 blocks and together with the four small panels I've got 16 blocks, perfect for a baby quilt. I don't know yet how I'm going to put it together. I'm off on Sunday to first Nepal and then on to India. It will be my first visit to both these countries and I hope I will have some interesting pictures to share when I get back. In the meantime, happy quilting. Vreni x

Maureen made this sweet unicorn quilt for her granddaughter. The pattern is called Lisa the Unicorn by Elizabeth Hartman. Maureen pieced the unicorn's horn out of gold lame and the head is made with velvet. I quilted it with the Pieced of my Heart pantograph, used pink So Fine thread and Quilters Dream Blend batting. The backing is a fun unicorn print flannel.

So happy with how this quilt turned out. All the quilt top fabrics are from my stash. "Low Volume" has been a trend over the last few years. I've made a couple of quilts with low volume backgrounds but never a whole quilt till now. Karen quilted this one too and the texture is lovely. I love this very sweet fabric I used for the backing: "Just Another Walk in the Woods" designed by Stacy Iest Hsu. I have enough left to back the "Clambake" cot quilt I'm making at the moment.
Before the final touches were put into my new Willow fabric line for Art Gallery Fabrics , I knew I would be remaking my Castle Garden quilt with this collection.
