Word sorting and matching game with this IT Word Family printable worksheet in color.
After having finished a unit over the body systems and with the kids itching for something fun to do, I put together this body system QR sort. We are all familiar with word sorts, you can have a word with a definition or a word with a category and you try to match up the correct one. For this, you have the body system on top and are asked to find what the body system does at the bottom. With a simple cut and some shuffling you have at your hands a body system word sort! I have used QR codes in the classroom many times and I have found that students are very engaged using the technology, and having a puzzle/sort like this will only get them more engaged. This download contains 12 different QR codes so it works great as a warm up or an exit ticket and in small groups it is a great way to review the body systems. Also included is a student worksheet for students to record the new information from the QR code. The following body systems are included: circulatory / cardiovascular, respiratory, skeletal, muscular, nervous, integumentary, excretory, digestive, immune, reproductive, and endocrine. Homeostasis is also included as all of these body systems will work together to produce homeostasis. Check out the preview for a sample question.

This resource provides practice in saying, sorting, spelling and writing words containing "ough". ! PLEASE NOTE: This resource was written in Australia, and pronunciations are correct for Australian and UK English. American English pronunciations may differ, and the resource is not recommended for students who use American pronunciations. 30 different "ough" words are included, and the set can be used in numerous ways. For example, words may be cut out and sorted by students into groups of same sounds. Students could mark words of the same sound in the list with coloured highlighters, one for each sound. Words may also be copied from the list into the table of headings which relate to the 6 different sounds of "ough". The list may also be used for Look-Say-Cover-Write-Check, and for spelling tests. The resource includes both colour and black-and-white word lists, answer sheet for sorting words by sound, and a blank page for writing dictionary meanings. In this series, I have also made resources for the "eigh" words, "augh" words, and "or" sound words too: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/EIGH-Words-Sorting-Them-Out-Middle-Primary-Phonics-and-Spelling-Resource-2828379 https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/AUGH-Words-Sorting-Them-Out-Middle-Primary-Phonics-and-Spelling-Resource-2828088 https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Words-with-the-OR-Sound-Middle-Primary-Phonics-and-Spelling-Resource-2843020

The great thing about free stuff is that it is free. Nobody cares what kind of plastic junk they’re getting as long as it’s free. Why do sports fans go nuts over t-shirt cannons, even though the shirts are ugly as hell and always XXL? Duh, because they’re free. To me, it seems logical that […]

In this packet you will find the following learning materials for teaching the 2 sounds of the TH digraph: -3 Poster with 2 sounds of TH -Sort header cards to be used together, or alone as you see fit -20 total sorting cards- 10 for each sound of TH -3 sorting sheets, to allow you to decide how the students sort the cards -2 “I Spy” worksheets, where students are asked to read and highlight a set of words and look for words with a specific TH sound only -2 “Cut and Paste” worksheets, where students are asked to read and cut then paste words under their correct TH sound -2 forms for “My Book of TH Words” where students will produce (or be given) TH words. They will be asked to identify the sound, use the word in a sentence, and draw a picture of the TH word. The students are given the option to either list the type of TH sound (hard or soft) OR identify another word with the same sound (possibly from the posters or whatever you use in the classroom as your key TH words) -4 games, each one focusing on 1 of the TH sounds only -1 game focusing on a combination of the 2 TH sounds ***Please remember that there are NO explicit rules to reading words with the TH sound. The two most standard /TH/ sounds are heard in the words THE versus the sound heard in the word THREE. I usually have my students try one of the /TH/ sounds when reading a word, and if it doesn’t make a real word, or sound correct, I ask them to apply the other “ sound and try again. It is the “trial and error” method of reading…at least until they become stronger readers with larger vocabularies. ** The words listed in the various games and sorts vary in difficulty and other essential phonetic skills including: blends, two-letter digraphs, short and long vowels sounds, silent e, adjacent vowels, bossy R, and some of the 5 rules of Y. The posters, sort, book, games, and worksheet can be used in the initial instruction, small group, assessments, individual desk work, or literacy centers. Contact me through my TPT shop if you have any concerns, questions, or suggestions. Happy Learning --Jamie
