Oh, Southport... Southport, NC is one of the first coastal towns I fell in love with. There's just something so quaint and charming about this sleepy little town. It's the perfect place for a day or weekend trip alike! Here's what we recommend for a day trip to Southport. First things first, stop by Port City Java for a cup of coffee Head to the Waterfront Park and stay awhile Visit the Southport Visitor's Center Stroll the streets of downtown Southport Head to a waterfront restaurant for lunch Visit the North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport Peruse more stores and/or book a boat tour Have dinner at Fishy Fishy cafe and watch the sunset Safe Haven Movie You may recognize Southport from the movie

Hey y'all! Today, I'm recapping our weekend getaway to Southport and Oak Island, North Carolina. I'm sharing where we stayed, where we ate, what we did, and what I wore. Let me know if you have any more questions about this gorgeous area! Where We Stayed... We stayed in Oak Island where the options for lodging are beach house rentals and very few other types of accommodations. We used to stay at a motel that was owned by the company that my husband works for but it has since been torn down due to structural damage. For this trip, we stayed at the Ocean Crest Motel, the only oceanfront motel on Oak Island. We stayed in an oceanfront room with a shared walkway and the view was absolutely gorgeous! The room was clean, the staff was exceptional, and the price per night was just right. The amenities were simple but I don't need a lot of fancy things while I'm soaking in some rest and relaxation at the coast. There is also a small pool if you need a break from the ocean. The motel is also located right next to the Ocean Crest Pier so it's an overall beautiful location. I would definitely recommend the Ocean Crest Motel! Image from Ocean Crest Motel's Website Where We Ate... 1. Provision Company is our absolute favorite place to eat when we are in the Southport area (Southport is a short 15 minute drive from where we stayed in Oak Island). We visited Provision Company for the very first time three years ago and now it's our favorite! We literally eat here at least two times during our visits to the area. The atmosphere is relaxed and the drinks are on the honor system. We also visited the Provision Company location in Holden Beach during our last beach trip to Ocean Isle earlier in the summer. The food is delicious and the views are absolutely breathtaking. 2. Pepperoni Grill was a new restaurant for us. On our first night in Oak Island, it was absolutely pouring so we wanted to go somewhere close by for dinner. Pepperoni Grill was just a couple of minutes away from Ocean Crest Motel (plus they also deliver if you don't want to venture out). They had an amazing variety of specialty pizzas as well as salads, stromboli, and calzones. We got a house salad and the lasagna pizza. Our meal was amazing and the food was very well priced. We will definitely go back! 3. Southport Smokehouse was also a new place for us. My husband and I love barbeque so we were excited to try it in Southport. The flavor of barbeque definitely varies from one end of North Carolina to the other. The smoked meat was delicious and the sides were great too. I had mac and cheese plus the baked beans. Again, the prices were very reasonable for high quality food. I would recommend! 4. Flava's is a must when you are visiting Southport! It's so hard not to stop there for a cone after every meal at Provision Company since it's right across the street. The unique flavor selections will make you want to come back. I had the strawberry cheesecake and it was so good. It literally had big chunks of cheesecake in it, which is my favorite! What We Did... Southport and Oak Island are very family friendly places to visit. The atmosphere all around is very low key and relaxed, which I absolutely love. The main thing to do while you are there is to just take in the beauty of it all. We simply took walks on the beach and down the pier. We built sand castles. We played in the ocean. We went hunting for seashells. We watched the sunset. There's also two lighthouses in the area to visit and boat tours. In Southport, there is an adorable shopping area plus you can see some of the signs where Safe Haven was filmed if you are a Nicholas Sparks fan. I think this area of the perfect place to come to when you need to unwind and recharge. What I Wore... I kept my wardrobe pretty simple for this short trip because I knew I would just want to be comfortable. Basically, I just want to be comfy every single day but especially on vacation. If you are looking for a great weekend getaway, I would definitely recommend Southport and Oak Island, North Carolina! Have a great day and thank you so much for stopping by!
