About this Activity: “Spot the Differences” targets vocabulary acquisition in a playful way and can be used with early elementary students, Kindergarten through 3rd grade, in speech therapy, ESL, RTI, and learning centers. It supports the following Common Core State Standards: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.K.5c Identify real-life connections between words and their use (e.g., note places at school that are colorful). CCSS.ELA-Literacy.L.K.1b Use frequently occurring nouns and verbs. CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.K.4 Describe familiar people, places, things, and events and, with prompting and support, provide additional detail. Included: 4 Sets of Picture Cards Answer Key Preparing the Activity: Print and laminate for durability. Provide a dry erase marker for each student and bring an eraser! How to Use: Review targeted household vocabulary with students. For larger groups have students work in pairs on one picture card, circling the differences with their dry erase markers. When they have finished, they can check the back of the card to make sure they have found each item. Then have them take turns telling you and the group what the differences are, using the targeted vocabulary. They can then move on to another picture.
