Here is the sketch inspiration: And here is my version... Did you ever made origami paper cranes in school or read the book Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, by Eleanor Coerr? This stamp set reminds me of making the cranes after reading that very moving book. The stamp set is call Crane of Fortune. Both the stamp set and this gorgeous Designer Series Paper (DSP), called Symbols of Fortune, is from the Jan.- Jun. Mini Catalog. The Soft Succulent cardstock along with the Bright White mat just makes me feel so happy. Do colors ever do that to you? These pictures just do not do justice to these beautiful colors together. This was a super easy card to make, although it might look difficult. There are three 1" squares of the DSP and one 4" x 1" strip of DSP that have been matted with Soft Succulent cardstock. (See the measurements below.) The sentiment was stamped with Evening Evergreen ink, while the crane and dragonflies were stamped using the Soft Succulent ink. The crane is a Distinktive stamp which creates different opacities in just a single stamped image and show so much detail. The inside has been matted with Bright White cardstock and a 4" x 1" strip of the DSP. I think it is so important to finish the inside of cards that are made with colored cardstock. It is also easier to write on the Bright White cardstock, at least for me. The Polished Dots were colored with the dark Soft Succulent Blends Marker. I just love being able to change the colors to add that extra bling touch. Measurements Soft Succulent Cardstock card base 11" x 4-1/4" scored at 5-1/2" Soft Succulent Cardstock mats 1-1/8" x 4-1/8" (cut one) 1-1/8" squares (Cut 3) Basic White Thick Cardstock mats 5-1/4" x 4" (cut two, for inside and outside) Symbols of Fortune DSP: 1" x 4" (cut one) 1"square (cut 3) Thanks for hopping by! Hi everyone. Happy St. Paddy's Day! You'd think I would be posting a green card, but instead I'm sharing some white on kraft card stock cards that I made as samples for yesterday's Zoom call with my crafting friends. Many examples will be Christmas cards ... this combination is perfect for them. For the card above, I followed an example of how to do white sponging on kraft from a very talented team mate, Linda (Life in the Craft Lane) ... this link is to all her white and kraft cards. She is a master at creating beautiful white on kraft cards. Thanks for the inspiration Linda! This is a combination of sponging with white pigment ink (Hero Arts) using torn copy paper to create masks for snowhills. I love how this turned out. The trees (All Things Evergreen - Penny Black) are stamped in Archival Potting Soil ink (permanent) and placed along the way as I moved up the card with my sponging. The sentiment (Bright and Light - Penny Black) was also stamped in the Potting Soil ink. I used white acrylic paint to add the snow details on the trees, and diluted more of the white acrylic paint to splatter the card for my falling snow. It was fun! I enjoyed using a mini slimline as my base (3 1/4" x 61/4"). Close-up ... Other ways to create white on kraft are super simple. First up, stamp image in Versamark or White Pigment ink and heat emboss with white. Easy, peasy ... For the card below, I stamped the image (Heart Christmas from Penny Black) in versamark and heat embossed in white. I used a watercolour pencil to colour in the image and lightly went over top with a water brush to smooth out the colour. The sentiment is from Holly Days (Penny Black). And last for today ... using Radiant (Penny Black), stamped in Versamark onto vellum, heat embossed in white, fussy-cut and placed over a kraft card base. Stamped the sentiment (Gratitude - Penny Black) in Versmark and heat embossed in white to match. Stenciling is another way to create white on kraft. And you can use a variety of products with the stencil ... white sponging, white heat embossing, white paste, white crackle paste, textured paste, etc. Also, my friend Bonnie recently made a card using kraft card stock which was dry embossed and then swiped over top with a white stamp pad. For March's technique's class I was inspired by Jennifer McGuire. I didn't heat emboss any of my images (like she did), I used the FREE sale-a-bration paper flowering foils speciality designer series paper for all my cards and my sample...
Here's another item that I've only used a few times. I think embossing folders are the greatest thing since sliced bread - love the subtle dimension they can give us. supplies: white, Hero Arts Carnation and 2 green layering papers, Crafter's Companion Floral Fusion 3D embossing folder, MFT Stitched Blooms and (retired) Thanks die, Hero Arts Nesting Rectangles die, pale green enamel dot Starting with an A2 panel of Carnation layering paper, I cut out a rectangle from it, then reinserted it into it's frame and embossed them both together. Since this layering paper is white core, I was then able to sand the panels to bring out the details. Next I framed the inner rectangle in white, and lifted it above the rest of the design, and to finish added the flower and my die-cut sentiment. This same recipe works just as nicely using an all-over stamped background, but I'm partial to this embossed one just because of the texture. Thanks for stopping by today - hope you are coping well in these difficult times.

One of my favorite punches is the Owl Builder. It's such a versatile punch that can be used for many things. Check out this photo of samples that I got from Pinterest - all were created using the Owl Builder punch. I've even seen it used to create minions, goblins & witches, snowman, Winnie the Pooh and Piglet. The possibilities are endless. The card I am sharing is a Congratulations card which is timely because of graduation. I used all retiring In Colors ink pads and card stocks. I CASED this card from a swap I received from a fellow demo, Kathy Maurer. Except hers was a Fancy Fold style card. This card would be awesome to convert into a Gift Card holder, too. Well, that's all I have for today. Noooo, I can't believe it's time to return to the office. I need a couple more days to chill. I am so going to miss my afternoon naps. Where is that crying emoji when you really need it? Thank you for stopping by and have a wonderful week, everyone! Below is the list of products used to create this card. It's time for another DOstamperSTARS Thursday Challenge. This week we're having a Home Sweet Home Challenge! I was practically giddy when I saw this week's Thursday Challenge inspiration! When I started on today's card, I focused on the color and was inspired to first create a color palette using our Shimmery White card stock. A background from my stash. Again, a stencil that I cleaned on watercolor paper. I stamped the Chevron Texture using Distress Ink Old Paper. Poppy and saying are stamped with Archival Ink Potting Soil. Just got in by the skin of my teeth. I spent ages thinking about this sketch for the current challenge over at Less Is More, hmmm ... what to do? I have used this layout so many times on cards but everything I tried just didn't look right. So finally I have come up with the card below. I am not overely happy with it but I like the bamboo in black against kraft. First of all I took a piece of Kraft CS and ran it through my cuttlebug using the PTI Linen Embossing Plate then mounted with PTI Picth Black CS and added to a white card blank. I cut another square of Kraft CS and embosed this too and stamped the bamboo from the PTI Peaceful Garden set on it in black ink. This has then been added to the base with 3d foam {I orginally mounted this to black CS too but changed my mind}. Sentiment from the Waltzingmouse Stamps Frame It Set stamped in the bottom corner. Mini pearls added to finish. STAMPS: Papertrey Ink, Waltzingmouse Stamps. INK: Memento Tuxedo Black. CS: Craftwork Cards, Papertrey Ink, Bazill Basics. TOOLS: Papertrey Ink Linen Embossing Plate. EMBELLISHMENTS: The Hobby House Pearls. Thanks for visiting today! Hope you all have a great weekend!
I was so excited to dive into the gorgeous Texture Chic Specialty Designer Series Paper from the Stampin' Up! 2022-2023 Annual Catalog! Welcome to the Creation Station April Bog Hop! So glad you have joined us today. Our theme this month is Inspired by Favorites. We are creating projects inspired by our favorite books, movies, poems, artwork, songs, shows and other favorites. This is going to be an interesting hop. You are going to see some great projects and maybe get to know us each a little better! Can you guess my inspiration? I am a reader. My childhood memories include many trips to the local library to check out books. My favorites have always been series because I love to follow characters as they change and grow and to meet them again and again. So as a kid I read all the Oz books, the Little House on the Prairie series and the Anne of Green Gables series. Now I have new favorites that I still read again and again. My favorites now are historical fiction like the Master and Commander twenty (plus the unfinished 21st) book series by Patrick O'Brian, which has inspired many stamping projects in the past, and the Outlander series (nine so far and not including the Lord John Grey books) by Diana Gabaldon which has inspired my projects today. As any book reader will tell you, the books are always much better than any movies or television series inspired by them. This first project was inspired by Claire. As with all the projects in the post today, I started by creating a page from a vintage book for my background. My idea was for this background to be a subtle reference to the books that inspired my projects. Although the first Outlander book was published in 1991, the vintage look is a reference to Jamie Fraser. He is not only a warrior and laird (a "Bloody Man, as Claire calls him) but also very well-read and classically educated. I started with a piece of Linen Specialty Paper(#155681) and used a Blending Brush (#153611) to blend Crumb Cake ink onto the white paper. Next, I covered the inside top of the the Timeworn Type 3D embossing folder (#156813, from the 2021 July to December Mini Catalog) with Soft Suede ink before adding the paper and putting it through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine. Then I roughed up the edges of the paper before layering it over a piece of card stock. Claire is a healer in the 18th Century and a surgeon from the 20th Century. She uses both her medical education and her knowledge of medicinal uses of plants as she cares for people. She spends a lot of time foraging for plants to create her medicines and to provide for the nutritional needs of her family. The bouquet and greeting on this card represent this part of her life. It was created using the Honeybee Home Bundle (#157952) and the Flowers of Home dies (#157938) from the Heart & Home Suite in the 2022 January to June Mini Catalog. The script backdrop for the bouquet (representing her medical journal) and the greeting are both from the Very Versailles stamp set (#149275). They were stamped in Early Espresso ink. A splatter of Early Espresso ink and a double bow of Linen Thread (#104199) complete the card. This card was inspired by the Native American name given to Jamie by members of the Tuscarora Tribe. Jamie and Claire met a hunting party of Tuscarora right after Jamie killed a bear with only a knife (while Claire beat it over the head with a fish--you didn't see that on the TV series!). The Tuscarora named Jamie "Bear Killer" and they and the Frasers became friends, trading partners and hunting and foraging companions until the tribe was wiped out by a measles epidemic. The bear and the greeting images are from the Wildlife Wonder stamp set (#157923). The trees and plants were die cut using the Inspiring Canopy dies (#155963) and the Horizon dies (#157778). My last project is for the bees! They play a big role on Fraser's Ridge for food, medicines, and trade. Plus, they have a role in some important events and are part of the title in the latest book of the series, Go Tell the Bees that I Am Gone. I used a retiring 3-1/8" x 3-1/8" Acetate Box (#150428) for the perfect chocolate treat gift. The linen page piece is layered over a piece of Cinnamon Cider card stock which was embossed with the Hive 3D embossing folder (3157955), with Early Espresso ink sponged on the inside of the folder. The stamped, colored and die cut images as well as the greeting were created with the Honeybee Home Bundle. Bumblebee 1/4" Gingham Ribbon (#153658) acts as the closure for the box. Hopefully, you've been inspired by my projects and techniques and know me just a bit more. Are you a fan of Outlander? How are you inspired by the books? Let's go see what Julie has been inspired by for her projects today! Hop on over to Just Julie B Stampin' here. To Julie's Blog . . . Have a wonderful April! --Sara Nell
