Episode 85: The 100 List Hi friend and welcome to this episode I am so glad you’re here. How are you? I know I have zero idea where you are listening to this episode, or even what country you’re in. Whether you’re at work, cooking dinner or driving. Whatever you are doing know that I am thinking of you and welcoming you while I record this message. I just looked at the stats for this podcast and I have listeners in over 86 countries. That is amazing, and I am so grateful for you. I just got back from a week vacation at the beach. No, it wasn’t a warm tropical beach, I was on the wild west coast. Watching the surf and the eagles. Walking on the long beach and hearing the waves. Soaking up the green and the deep quiet of old growth forest up here in Canada. I am vitally aware that this land has been inhabited and stewarded for millennia by the first nations people. And want to acknowledge that With gratitude, we recognize that we live, learn, and play on traditional lands, and we acknowledge and pay our respect to the First Nations and Métis ancestors of each place and reaffirm our relationship with one another. I’ve called this episode “The 100 List” and it’s a reflective exercise that I often recommend for my clients. I’ve been reminded how powerful it is and wanted to share it with you too. Here’s how it works New coaches, feel sooooo new, and you forget that you’ve got a lifetime of experience that you bring to this new career. And in this forgetting, you call yourself a “newbie “or a “baby coach” and basically ignore, write off, dismiss all of the knowledge, all of your experience all of your skills. And yes, you’re learning new skills. Coaching skills. This 100 exercise helps you remember. And in this remembering, you will realize and remind yourself that you are so much more capable than you know. That you have resources that you can bring to creating clients and coaching that no one else can. So, here’s what to do: Grab your journal and a pen or open a Google doc. List at least 100 things that you’ve accomplished in your life that you are proud of For example: I graduated from high school, I got my Masters, I got a job at that great company, I have cultivated wonderful friendships, I learned to draw, I paid off credit card debt I saved for a vacation I practice daily meditation I qualified for a mortgage I coached my first client List everything large and small that you are proud of. Look back over your life and start writing. Now here’s what you’ll probably find, you’ll list 10 or 20 items and then you’ll get stuck, and you’ll think “100 is too many, there is no way I’ve accomplished that much.” Don’t worry, this is a simple exercise, but it takes commitment to see it through, but it’s worth it. So, when you get stuck find some small things to add to your list. For example, I decided that I was going away for my birthday, and I did. Or I cleaned my pantry. You may need to do this exercise over a few days. Here’s what I’ll promise you, pretty soon you’ll discover that the ideas flow fast and furious and you’ll have problems actually writing them all down on paper. I challenge you to do this 100 and if you get to 100 and you’ve got more – well add it to your list. Once you’re complete, sit back, review the list. Soak in the feelings of pride and accomplishment. See what a bad ass you are? Look at your list, anyone who can accomplish that much is relentless, resourceful, determined and strong. Yes, I’m speaking to you! Now use those emotions, to motivate you to take inspired and powerful action to create the clients that you would love to work with. One more thing, you can always deepen your learning by looking at some of those individual line items on your list of 100. For each, you could deepen your appreciation and ask yourself. What did I learn while doing this? How did I grow? What qualities did I cultivate How does this experience set me up for success today? Here’s what I mean – if for example one of the items on your 100 list was I realized I was underpaid, and I lobbied for a pay raise. Ask yourself What did I learn? Well maybe you learned to stand up for yourself or to advocate for your own needs. How did I grow? I decided that I was worth it. I realized that I hadn’t taken ownership of the salary negotiation in the first place, so I improved my negotiations skills, I planned the conversation with my boss, I did my research and was well prepared. What qualities did I cultivate? The qualities of determined, maybe even relentless when you’re faced with a goal. Perhaps the qualities of listening to both sides and pursuing a win-win outcome. How does this experience set me up for success today? I will no longer settle or barter on my rates. Or I’m no longer uncomfortable talking about money. Ok, now to sum up this episode. Take a journal and pen and write a list of at least 100 things that you are proud of in your life. Keep the list close so you can refer to it when you start to doubt yourself. And for extra credit you can go deeper with the four questions on any item on your list. Where the four questions are What did I learn while doing this? How did I grow? What qualities did I cultivate? How did this experience set me up for success today? Now I want to hear from you. Post a screen shot of this episode on IG and tag me @candymotzek. Tell me how your list is going? What did you learn by doing this work? I want to cheer you on! Now before you go, I’d love to invite you to my free Monday Coaching and Conversation with Candy. I open a zoom room for everyone who registers. I usually teach a topic, answer questions and I coach. I’ll put the sign-up link in the episode notes I’d love to meet you face to face. And if you want even more help, with where to start or how to create coaching clients. Then we should talk about how we can work together. Episode 76: Let’s talk about the elephant in the room Hi friend. And welcome to this episode. I am so glad you're here now, before we dive in, I want to talk a little bit about what I've seen at the beginning of this year. We are still in January 2022. If you're listening to this far into the future. That's okay. What I wanted you to know is that over the new year period, I spent a lot of time listening, closely to my clients and analyzing where they were getting the results that they wanted and where things weren't working exactly as expected. And I talked to them, and I looked at my notes and I thought about what was going on. In every single case, this is the reason, it’s one word it's fear. And I realized that we all hold ourselves back because, because of fear. And so, I decided to do a few episodes, on different t topics related to fear, and I trust that you will find them useful. These episodes are dedicated to my clients. My past present and future clients. I want more than anything to help you live the life of your dreams. So, let's dive in. This first episode is called. “Let's talk about the elephant in the room”. As I said, I've got a few episodes that are going to be coming along and they're all focused on fear. So, let's go. I want to talk to you about the elephant in the room. And this goes for all kinds of coaches, service professionals, leaders, online entrepreneurs. It doesn't matter where you are or who you are, but it's one of those main ways that we hold ourselves back from being all that we are capable of being. And that thing is often other people's opinions or rather how we think other people think. What do other people think of us? How often do you choose to do something different because of what you think they're thinking, do you hold yourself back because of what other people might think? I've written a bunch of notes and I'm just going to tell you some thoughts. And my hope is that as I'm processing and learning, and I'm sharing my lessons with you, that you take them in, and you do something with them too. So why do other people's opinions matter? Why do they mean so much to us? I think for most coaches and healers and leaders, it's because for many of us, small business owners, we're solopreneurs for the most part, maybe with a bit of a support team, but we are a reflection of our business. We may have a couple of people helping us, but our business is integral to us. And when your business is like this, especially when you're just starting out and you're pouring your heart and soul and mind into it, it really matters to you. You're really invested in it and you're investing in it. And that's one of the amazing things, right? We've got a business. We can be so passionate about our business and create something that really reflects us a business with soul, our soul, our heart, our business, all intertwined together. When you and your business are so close, other people's opinions might feel more important because it's not just about your business. It's also about you. Think what would happen if your business was selling a product like a random old product, not even one that you'd invented, maybe the product that you're selling is chairs or something like that, something physical, something that's that you can put your fingers on and you didn't create it. You didn't design it, but now you're selling it. And it's just not going to have the same impact on you. It doesn't have all of your heart in it. Your investment in it would probably be money, effort and time for the planning and delivery. But it's not at the same level as being the creator. They would've had, had their thought about it. Those designers and manufacturers, everybody's got thoughts about their things. Everyone has judged, and everybody has opinions, but it wouldn't matter so much to you. If somebody didn't like that chair you were selling, it wouldn't feel like they're judging you. So that's one thing for you to think about. What kinds of things does your mind say to you? It might be worried about questions like this. What will my friends think? Or, you know what? I've always wanted to be a coach, and that's what I'm going to do. I'm going to shift my career. I'm going to create this side hustle. And maybe eventually I am going to have an amazing business. What will people say to you or say about you? What will your family say? And when they say it, what does it sound like? Right. You might say something like, I've always wanted to be a coach and what will they say? Well, they might say, oh, oh, okay. Isn't that kind of an unusual thing to do? Or are you sure that's really an important thing? Or could you really make it at that? And so how often do you hold yourself back? Because of what you think might somebody else might say the thing is you don't actually know what they're going to say. They might say, oh my gosh, that's so amazing. What an exciting thing I know you're going to be successful. I know it's perfect for you. They may say that who they might say, something like this. Ooh, are you sure? And then try to talk you out of it. They could say any of those things and anywhere in between. You've got no idea what they're going to say or what their opinion is. Notice how you project your fear on others. And then you take that fear, and you create a story based on that fear. Now with care, I want to say this to you because we all do this. That story sometimes is based on past experiences, for sure. But for the most part, we imagine a story and not a great story. We imagine that they're not going to say something nice to us. We imagine that they're not going to support us the way that we like it. Then what we do is we change our actions based on a story that we have thought, not that we've actually experienced and in that way we stifle ourselves. Get me here. You create a story in your mind and that story that you created, changes how you think. Most of those times we know that we have a bias, a negative bias. So, most of those times those stories are negative. And we think somebody's going to be unsupportive or judge us. We think that, but we don't actually know, right? So, these important words we imagine, we reject, we think, and all of this, all of this is us making up stories in our own mind. It all starts with our thoughts, and we are the ones that choose the story. And so that's the way that you can move forward to take back your power and to move, to do those things that you really, really want to do. Remember those thoughts are your thoughts, whether they're true or not, who knows? Right? And because of those thoughts, we either put a lid on our passion and don't allow ourselves to shine. Or maybe even we dull our sparkle just a little. Now what I'm saying to you is this, when someone says you're kidding, right? Or they might even say, you know what? I think you should take a dose of the real world. That's never going to work. Of course, they get to say it. They're used to having a certain relationship with you. They want you to stay safe because they care about you. They also don't want you to change because it upsets their apple cart as well. Maybe you’re used to doing the salsa dance together. And now with your change in life, it's like, you're changing to the waltz, and they might be a little uncomfortable too. They also might be doing it because they really truly believe that they're protecting you. They love you. They care for you. And they don't want you to get hurt. So yeah, they might say those things, the things that we fear, but they may say them from completely different places. You’ve got no control because guess what? When you start to think about it, when you second, guess you hold yourself back because of how you imagine somebody else might judge you, or you hold yourself back because you imagine what their opinion is going to be. And the reality is other people will judge you. It's a fact of life. We can't help it. I judge people all the time. You judge people all the time. We form our opinions every single day. So of course, other people are judging you too. And if you ever thought about it that way now, sometimes you're going to suspect. Maybe they're judging me positively. Maybe instead of going to that negative place. Maybe they'll say, wow, that's so cool. And other times they're not going to say that. Think about this. When we think they're going to judge us, do we even consider that they may judge us kindly and positively? They might encourage us, nope, we automatically jump to that negative place, but we don't have to make that assumption. So, what are you noticing as I describe this to you? Are you starting to shift your perspective? Just a little. They may judge you when they see you online. They may judge you when you do a video. They may judge you when they hear you speak, they may judge your appearance. They may say he's too loud and boisterous. I hate that. Or they might say she's too fat. Or they might say, he's too skinny. Who knows? They may say all those things. But what often happens is that we might hear the judgment and here's where we can change. We might decide that we've got no control over what they think or their judgment. We can change who we are. That's the only thing that we've got control over who we are, how we show up, how we think, how we feel. And we get to learn how to accept ourselves and our choices and our dreams. Let me give you some other thoughts. And I don't know if you've noticed this about judgment, but sometimes somebody might look at you and say, ah, I love how her eyes sparkle when she smiles or, oh, she is such a kind caring person. Would you ever think about those kinds of judgements? Probably not. Now let's flip the script around a little bit and I want to show you one other thing is that sometimes we use our own judgements against us. And here's what I mean. We might look at somebody else and we might say something like that. Oh, I love how her eyes sparkle. When she smiles, she just shines from within. And then we flip this script, and we turn that mirror on ourselves. And we might say things like, ugh, my eyes never do that. You feel how we looked at somebody else and found something amazing and did something to admire about them, but then use that against ourselves. We judge that other person so kindly and then turn it on ourselves, like a weapon. People are always going to form opinions. They're going to form opinions about you, no matter what. And sometimes those opinions might be great. They might be complimentary. So, who knows? We can't control their opinions at any time, not just today or tomorrow, even if we do the best job we've ever done, we still can't control their opinions. And remember too, that a lot of times when they're making their opinion about you, it might actually be a reflection of how they think of themselves. Or maybe they're thinking how you're better than they are. And turning that compliment on themselves. Just like you might do the same to you. To close out this episode, I found this quote and I wanted to read it to you. It kind of sums up the idea about other people's opinions. And I love it. It says, and I believe it's an Eleanor Roosevelt quote. It says You probably wouldn't worry what other people think of you. If you could know how seldom they actually do. Pause for a moment and take that in. So often people aren't even thinking about you. They're so busy thinking about themselves and their lives and challenges. So, they're using that opinion sometimes. And sometimes they’re not even thinking of you. So, when you're thinking about what somebody else is going to say, what's going to happen really? Probably nothing, probably they're thinking of themselves or looking at you in admiration because you're going out there and creating the life of your dreams. And then they're turning it on themselves as a reminder of where they aren't stepping up in their own life. So, notice we can use opinions, other people's opinions in many ways. Do we imagine what their opinion might be and use it to hold ourselves back? Do we look at somebody else and form our own opinion and spur ourselves forward, using them as a role model or do we hold ourselves back? Lots for you to think about here, right? So, I would encourage you to think about this. And I would love to hear how you're going to take this and move forward for yourself. Take the next step, take the next risk. Become an awesome coach instead of holding yourself back. Allow yourself just to open up and shine. And use your gifts because you are so needed in the world. Now if you have always been curious about what it takes to become a successful coach, I've got something that I wrote for you. It's called the Ultimate Guide To Becoming A Professional Coach. What Is Imposter Syndrome And How To Overcome It. Hi there, I’m so glad you’re here and Welcome to this episode of She Coaches Coaches. Today we’re talking about imposter syndrome. Actually, this is the first of two back to back episodes where we’ll look at imposter syndrome. It’s a topic that comes up a lot with my private clients so I know it will resonate with you too. Let me read you these quotes I found. When I won the Oscar, I thought it was a fluke. I thought everybody would find out, and they’d take it back. They’d come to my house, knocking on the door, and say “Excuse me, we meant to give that to someone else.” Jodie Foster Sometimes I wake up at night and go, “Oh, damn! Here we go again! What were they thinking? They gave me this role; don’t they know I’m faking it? Renee Zellweger There are still days when I wake up feeling like a fraud, not sure I should be where I am. Sheryl Sandberg, Lean In, COO Facebook When I read them the first time I just laughed. I laughed because they seemed so ridiculous, how could these incredibly talented individuals say something so silly? At the same time, I could feel their discomfort. And I could feel mine too. What about you? What is Imposter Syndrome? Imposter syndrome is essentially when we secretly think we’re a fraud. No matter what we’ve done, or what you’ve accomplished…there’s a little voice in your head that is pretty sure someone is going to catch up with you. and then they’ll tell the world that you’ve been faking it all this time. Something about reading these quotes really struck home with me, probably because I, like you, struggle from time to time with imposter syndrome. If you’ve never heard of imposter syndrome, it’s time you did. People who experience imposter syndrome think any success they had is a result of plain old luck, being in the right place at the right time. They secretly suspect they don’t deserve the success they have and they are just waiting for the embarrassing revelation. How familiar does this sound? Do you suspect that “someone made a mistake” and that’s the only reason you got your job or a promotion or got accepted to that awesome grad school? And because of this fear, you walk around tentatively. It’s like you’re waiting for the next shoe to drop. The ironic thing about imposter syndrome is you would never for a minute doubt your friend’s capability. You are certain they are smart enough, skilled enough and completely deserve their success. But not you. Basically, you’re a fraud waiting to be publicly exposed. Any day now they will find out you really have no idea what you are talking about or what you are doing. Just like Jodie, Renee and Sheryl. This is one side of imposter syndrome. The side that says there’s something wrong with you, you don’t deserve any of your success. And this is what we’re going to talk about today. Next week, I’m looking at imposter syndrome from a different perspective. So you’re going to want to listen to that episode too! But for this week. Your thoughts might sound something like this: “They” are going to find out I’m just faking it. Who am I to be a coach? I’m not an expert in anything. I should never have told my friends I’m a coach. Sure, I’ve got 5 clients…but pretty soon they’re going to figure out I have no idea what I’m doing. So, if any of this sounds familiar. Let me welcome to the club. Imposter syndrome is really not that helpful. It’s a habit you may have that you’ve built up over the years. Every time you start something new it might show up. Any time you stretch….that familiar “they’re going to find out” voice shows up. What’s the impact of imposter syndrome? Imposter syndrome often shows up in us playing small. It may show up as overthinking and over analyzing, people-pleasing, procrastination, perfectionism. Whatever the descriptor (like perfectionism or procrastination) the effect is You shrink or hide. You don’t show up. You don’t speak up or contribute. You don’t invite people to work with you and you don’t collaborate and connect. Do you notice, you spend a lot of time thinking about yourself and how you feel and because of this you step on your greatness, you squash your potential. Ouch! What can you do, how can you help yourself when you know you’ve got imposter syndrome? How can you replace feeling like a fraud with a more realistic view of your skills, strengths and weaknesses? Ways to overcome imposter syndrome: Here are 6 strategies. 1. Keep a success file. Accept you’ve played some part in your own success. Keep a “success file” where you capture your achievements and collect copies of “thank you” notes, performance reviews and testimonials. 2. Look at the data. Look at the evidence. What have you worked on that others have benefited from? What work have you done that people have appreciated and found useful? Approach how you feel from a more logical perspective. It will help 3. Share your feelings. You might be tempted to stay quiet or isolate yourself when you have imposter syndrome because you think you’re the only one. Thoughts of imposter syndrome thrive on isolation. Don’t let it. Instead, do something about it. One of the fastest ways to dissolve the fear of being found out is to share it with a friend or peer that you trust. As you connect, you will feel understood and your friend will be able to support and remind you that you too deserve the success you’ve experienced. They will remember and remind you of the times you worked until 3 am on a project that the client loved, or how you spent years researching and writing your thesis, and when you worked on your business between 6 pm and 2 am every night while you were getting established. In a nutshell, they don’t have your skewed view. 4. Accept that you are human. You are better than you were and you learn and grow every day. Accept that, at times you will make mistakes and other times you will hit a home run. Sure you might be used to being a perfectionist or have a people-pleasing habit but you can learn self-acceptance. It all starts with your thoughts and a decision to begin appreciating yourself, just the way you are. 5. Shift your focus Look at the results of what you are doing, the value you add and who you help instead of hyper-focusing on your self-doubt. When you get out of your own head, you spend less time fussing, more time contributing and you will feel more confident and fulfilled. 6. Remember, the people who suffer from imposter syndrome are usually the most capable and committed people. Imposters fear they will be found out to be fakers. In truth, the ones who are really faking it, often actually believe they are better than they are. Have you ever worked with anyone who, at least at the surface, think very very highly of themselves and then when it came time to contribute or actually do something ….you found out they were a mouthpiece, filled with hot air….no substance at all? Yes, I think we all have. It’s ironic, isn’t it? Most likely, if you’re experiencing imposter syndrome, you probably are not a fraud. Remember there’s a big difference between being a fraud and being new, learning, making mistakes and growing. So, let me recap the six strategies you can use Keep a success file Look at the data. Share your feelings Accept that you are human. Shift your focus Remember, if you’re experiencing imposter syndrome, you probably are not a fraud. I’ll be sure to do a shout out and dedicate to you! All right I’m looking forward to this and I can’t wait to hear from you. Ok that’s it for updates now let’s dive into today’s episode. Back in Episode 36 we talked about some new perspectives for when you’re uncomfortable charging for coaching. Today I’m going to go more in depth on the value of coaching. What I mean by this is not necessarily so that you charge more for your service. Believe me, there are a lot of coaches who potentially undercharge. I see new coaches charging $10 or $20 for a coaching session because they are so eager to get a client…any client. This comes from a place of worry and lack, worrying that there aren’t enough clients in the world. This value of coaching topic is also because I want you to understand deeply the impact that coaching can have on your client’s life and the ripple effect that it could have in the world at large. What is the value of coaching? What is the definition of value? It’s defined as worth, usefulness, or importance. The part of this definition that applies here is usefulness or importance. So how important is coaching. Is it helpful? What makes it worthwhile? As a direct result of coaching people get more in touch with what matters to them. They realize that what they want is important. They learn to value themselves, to take their desires into account. Then they set goals to achieve more of what they want (or less of what they don’t want) and take action to fulfill the goal. People who have a coach are more satisfied and fulfilled in their life. They learn resilience, feel better about themselves, and intentionally create much more meaningful success Who wouldn’t want that? Plus, with coaching they reach their goals faster and more easily too. Coaches hold space, we listen, question, and reflect back the client’s perspective. It sounds simple but it’s very rare in regular conversations. This is a skill and all coaches hone that skill over time. Everyone wants to be seen and heard. It’s one of our most basic needs…. the need to matter. And coaching fills that need. One new thought, one new perspective can completely transform someone’s life. This sounds all fine and dandy, but it’s a little elusive. Let’s talk about a real-life example of the value of coaching. Let’s talk about a career coach whose client is a disgruntled employee, Mary. The client has “had it up to here” and she is ready to quit her job. She wants a new job; she hates her work days. Every Sunday (literally half of the weekend) she grumps around the house, she dreads Monday and sometimes she even cries Sunday night for so many reasons. She’s exhausted from the constant demands and critical clients, she’s got too much work to do because the company has cut back on staff – the only problem, they may have less staff - but they still have the same amount of work to be done. Mary enjoys her co-workers well enough - but the team spends most of their time complaining about management. Mary Does. Not. Like her supervisor. The boss never has a kind word, ignores input, or criticizes her ideas and Mary has been passed over for a promotion 3 times. Like I said she wants a new job, and she comes to coaching feeling stressed, worn down and frantic to make a change. Mary hires a coach. Initially the coach may help Mary learn how to manage her stress, help her source, and establish ways to support her emotional needs and keep herself physically healthy too. Job changes don’t happen overnight so the priority would be to help her get a new perspective and to feel better now in the short term before they even begin to tackle her career search. She can begin to feel better now, she doesn’t have to wait to find a new job to feel better. This means that she will be able to do a more constructive, healthier job search because she won’t be so stressed and so much in a rush. This alone may mean that it takes a little bit longer to change jobs, but the job she will be going for is one that is a better match for her, at a company where she’s done the research to know it’s a good place to work. This saves her from taking any old job out of desperation, and unknowingly creating an even bigger mess. Once Mary’s worked with this coach, done the work, and eventually has moved into her new role. She will have more job satisfaction; more self satisfaction and she’ll be working in a place that is a better match. Working with a career coach will probably also mean that her salary is aligned and since she will have probably had better negotiation skills more than likely Mary will make more money, (salary, bonuses, and benefits) than the job she left. Because Mary worked with a career coach the results can be summarized into these 4 areas: More satisfaction Less stress Better fit More money What is the value of these 4 things? 1. More satisfaction. Means Mary will look forward to work instead of crying on Sunday night and grumping around all day Sunday. When I say this to you, it might sound kind of glib, but think about this, she has her weekend back – this is a huge deal. And because she’s satisfied, she’ll contribute more, she’ll grow more. Think of how this could impact her relationships at home, she could be more present for her family on the weekends and evenings, she could have more fun and connection with the people that matter to her. 2. Less stress. Will lead to better sleep, less chronic health issues, less doctor visits and medications. Less stress means a longer more vibrant and healthier life. Chronic stress is a known contributor to health issues such as Mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety, Cardiovascular disease, including high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes Weight gain and obesity Skin and hair problems such as acne, psoriasis, and eczema, and permanent hair loss Gastrointestinal problems, such as GERD, ulcerative colitis. 3. Better fit. Mary can feel more comfortable within the new company., true to herself, show up as herself and ultimately do more satisfying work and have more fun. I bet she’ll also have better career advancement too! Instead of being continually passed over for a promotion, a better fit might mean more mentoring, more guidance so that she is better prepared when it’s time to apply to move up. 4. More money Yes, more money. A higher salary means more choice, possibly more options and even more freedom. It could mean student debt is paid off faster, or you can qualify for a mortgage instead of being a long term renter, maybe your children can attend a better school.....it means so much more. If you start a job at $10,000 more per year, your salary increases will also be higher so the money compounds. These raises add up year over year A 2% increase on $10,000 alone year over year adds up over the length of Mary’s career. What is the value of Mary deciding to work with a career coach? Everything in our lives are intertwined. If I was an actuary, I might actually be able to establish the fully monetary value of this coaching engagement. But I don’t think we need to go there Everything in her life will be different. She’ll make more money, be more satisfied, her health is better, her relationship (both with others and with herself) also better. I can’t think of anything that has not had the potential to improve! The value of coaching is the potential for a completely transformed life. Now we’ve talked about Mary and her immediate relationships, but we live in community. The spin off is endless. Because Mary has created a more satisfying life then her friends, children, co-workers, family will all be affected by this too. Maybe it’s because she’s a role model and shows them what is possible. Maybe it’s just because she’s easier to be around. Now extend the ripple effect, we can even take it down to the simplest chance interactions. For example, Mary is less stressed and shares a kind word at her local coffee drive thru. This impacts the person taking the order….and they smile a little bit more warmly at the people around them and maybe they tell a joke or listen a little bit more compassionately…..and it goes on and on The ripple effect of Mary having received coaching and choosing to change her life…could be massive. And that is the value of coaching. This is why coaching is important, it can change lives. Being a coach is fun and I think it’s the best career in the world. You should join us, we need more coaches there’s lots of room. I want to encourage you. So many people will benefit from having a coach just like you. Alright that’s it for today. I so appreciate that you’re here as part of my community and I trust that you’re applying this stuff too. And remember I want to hear from you, send me a DM with ideas for future episodes and I’ll dedicate the episode to you and give you a shout out too on social. Episode 157: The Benefits of Creating a Course for Coaches: Scaling, Revenue, and Reputation with Nancy Giere Episode Description Have you ever considered adding a digital course to your coaching practice? My guest Nancy Giere has been creating online courses for 30 years. Tune in to our discussion and you may find the inspiration to begin looking at adding this profitable approach to your offerings. In today's world, digital courses have become increasingly popular, and many coaches are beginning to consider adding them to their practice. I’m joined by Nancy Giere, an experienced online course creator, and we discuss the benefits of digital courses for coaches. She highlighted how courses can help coaches scale their business and offer their services to more people without having to work more hours. Additionally, a course can serve as a lower-priced entry point for potential clients who may not be able to afford one-on-one coaching yet but are interested in learning more about the coach's approach and principles. Online courses or digital courses can help coaches streamline their work and save time by providing clients with basic information and exercises to complete before their sessions. This can make the sessions more focused and efficient while still achieving great results. In the long run, coaches can establish their brand and reputation as experts in their field while providing an additional revenue stream for their business. Creating a course can be a versatile tool for coaches, allowing them to leverage their time, reach a wider audience, and offer value to clients at a lower price point. Coaches can share their expertise, knowledge, and insights with a wider audience, providing actionable steps and tools that clients can use to achieve their goals. The course can also be used as a lead magnet to attract new clients or as an upsell to offer existing clients additional value and support. These digital courses can be a powerful tool for coaches looking to build their brand, increase their impact, and grow their business. By creating a course, coaches can share their expertise with a broader audience, streamline their work, and offer value to clients at a lower price point. Are you curious to find out what the word is? Just Think about it. How often do you sabotage yourself with this qualifier? Many of us, especially women, use the word “just” to soften the meaning of what we are stating. When you use the word just to describe who you are, what you do or to clarify your choice it devalues your abilities, your skills and shrinks your impact. Here’s an example. Read this sentence: I would just like to say that I feel that women undermine their credibility time and time again by using minimizing language. What do you notice? Using the word “just” and the phrase “I feel” undermines the writer’s own opinion. The writer appears to not believe in their own opinion and they appear apologetic for speaking up in the first place! Now, compare the first sentence with this revised version. There are women who undermine their credibility time and time again by using minimizing language. Both sentences say the same thing, but they have a significantly different tone. Once you wake up to the habit of watering down the message you will hear it everywhere. Stay alert for phrases such as these: I just wanted to say I just called because I’m just checking in Just a suggestion, ok? Truthfully, I’m not immune to this weak communication habit either. When I re-read past emails and blog posts I see the impact it has on my own message. Take steps to review what you’ve written and revised the wording to eliminate “just” from your writing. It is equally as important to notice how you speak and I encourage you to be more aware of the words you use. Many times all you need to do is drop the word just from the sentence. Look at what happens to the list above when the one word is omitted: I wanted to say I called because I’m checking in A suggestion By eliminating the word “just” from your vocabulary it will have a decided impact on your communication. This small and important shift will improve all communication. When you feel and appear more confident and empowered it will be reflected in your business. You will get more clients, book more speaking gigs, be invited to be a guest on more podcasts and make many more interesting connections at in-person networking events.
Episode 77: The Five Faces of Fear Hello there. Welcome back. I'm so glad you're here today. We're going to talk about something a little bit uncomfortable and for some of us, it might be really uncomfortable. If you haven't listened to the last episode, I explained that I'm doing a small number of, so it's focused on fear and it was because at the beginning of this year, I sat back and I had a real close look at what was going on with my clients, my past clients and my present clients. What was happening? Where were they getting the results they wanted, where weren't they? And there was this one underlying commonality. It was fear. Fear was the thing that was stopping them from moving forward. They've made so much progress and I am so proud and honored to work with them. And I know that each of them experiences fear. I'm creating these episodes to help my client past present future clients and all of you, wonderful listeners to help you come into a new relationship with fear and hopefully move past it. So, you can create the dreams that you want. So, like I said, this one's going to be a little uncomfortable, not terrible, but just a little bit. We’re going to talk about the five faces of fear. And we're going to talk about how to overcome them. I am a big believer that when we understand something, when we're aware, then we're in the place of power and we can do something about it. And that's what we're going to do today. So, these five faces of fear, what is going on with those? And here's the way that I specifically see them showing up with both myself and in many of my clients’ lives. The face of fear that you have the most habitual face of fear often will show up in the way that you avoid things. First, there is procrastination, ooh, a bit of a tongue twister. Procrastination Let me try that again. First, there is procrastination putting it off and putting it off and putting it off, putting off that thing that you know, needs to be done. You're going to do it tomorrow, or it's a little too late today to make that phone call or, you know what? My battery's low on my phone. All of those things feel like procrastination. Overwhelm The second face of fear is overwhelmed. It might sound like this. I don't know what to do. I'm so overwhelmed. I've got so many different balls that I'm juggling, and I don't even know how it's all going to fit together. Overwhelm is another really common way that fear shows up. Indecision The next one is struggling with making a decision or indecision. What do I do? A or B or C or all of them all at once or in what order? Maybe you're looking at indecision because you've got so many options open to you and you don't know which one to take. So instead of doing anything, you don't decide. Indecision is that third face of fear. I'm tired The next one that I see a lot is this, it sounds like this I'm tired. I'm sleepy. I'm so tired that I couldn't possibly do that. You know, I think I should just take it easy. I've been working hard. It's another way that fear can show up being tired. Busy-ness The fifth and another very common way that I see, especially with the overachievers that I work with is busy being super busy, just doing and doing and doing, being busy, doing all kinds of stuff, but sometimes avoiding the thing that you know is important. Avoiding the thing that might be a little bit new or tough avoiding the thing that you're nervous about. Five faces of fear that I commonly see procrastination, overwhelm, spinning in busyness, indecision and sleepiness. I can't decide. I'm too tired. I'm overwhelmed. I don't know what to do. I'll wait till tomorrow. Those all sound familiar to us. Some are more your habitual face of fear than others. Let's talk about the five ways that fear show up in your life. And I'm kind of curious, and I'd love to hear from you guys. What's the most common way that fear shows up for you? Send me a DM @candymotzek or comment on this episode and tell me what's your experience. So now that you know, some of the ways that they're going to show up, what do you do? How do you get past it? How do you form a new habit? The first thing that we do is acknowledge that fear is real. We become aware of it. This is me feeling afraid, and fear is real. It's there, it's present in your life. So instead of avoiding it or sweeping it under the carpet, because sometimes we're scared of even feeling the fear. And we acknowledge that it's real. And I know it sounds kind of strange and kind of funny, but I've seen this, and I've experienced it myself, avoiding feeling the fear. I feel... The first thing that you do is you think so I'm scared, or I am nervous, or I am worried. Acknowledge that you're feeling it and acknowledge that it's an emotion that is present. A feeling that is present for you right now. There is a difference between saying, I am scared. I am fearful. You don't have to claim it as your identity. When we use those, I am phrases. We're claiming it as something that we are as if it’s a part of our identity. Instead, shift it slightly, yes, we acknowledge it. But instead of saying, I am fearful, shift it slightly to I feel scared. I feel nervous. This is a real defining point. It's between feeling the feeling and owning the feeling as if it is a part of you. Watch how you address it. And when you acknowledge that you feel the feeling, I feel nervous today. I feel scared. When you allow it, then you get to watch it. I know that might sound a little bit weird, but it's going to move and shift. When you're feeling angry. Anytime you're feeling scared. Anytime you have one of these uncomfortable emotions, if you just breathe and watch it, it will start to move like a wave. It will crest, and eventually it will dissipate. So, you don't have to deal with it forever. Fear Is Normal You don't have to think that fear is abnormal. It's normal. And it's an emotion. Fear is a function of our biology. It is a chemical reaction that happens in our body. When we might be doing something that our body thinks might be dangerous. Now, evolution has created those chemicals. That is how it has helped protect us. These days things that you and I are scared of are not going to cause us any real danger. Most of the things are not going to do anything but make us feel a little uncomfortable. Maybe we'll feel a little embarrassed. Maybe we'll feel a little silly, but we're not in actual physical danger. Now, if you're talking about the fear of jumping out of a plane without a parachute, that is a completely different ballpark. And I'm not going down that path. I'm talking today about the fears that you might have when you try something new, not when you're experiencing a real danger. Maybe you're scared about signing a new coaching client. Maybe you're nervous about doing your first Facebook or Instagram live. Maybe you decided it's time to go back to the gym and you haven't been there for a while. Those are the kinds of nervousness. We're talking about. Name, the emotion Name, the emotion, focus on your body and name it. So, it will sound like this. When you notice and acknowledge that fear is normal and you name it. I am feeling nervous. Then focus on your body. It's a physical sensation in your body. What do you notice? Is your stomach churning? Are your shoulders tight? Do you have goosebumps going up your back? Do you have a rock in the pit of your stomach? What is the actual physical sensation that you fear? I know that for me, sometimes when I'm nervous, my legs get super tight, or they get a little bit jittery. Like they want to move. But when I focus on that physical sensation and I notice it and I acknowledge that I'm nervous, I just pause and give it a little bit of time. I can just accept that I'm having an emotion and notice what's happening in my body and allow myself to focus and feel that physical sensation in about 60 to 90 seconds. Yeah, one minute to a minute and a half, you're going to notice the emotion shifts. Interesting. Right? Notice what we're doing is we're present with fear. We are not the fear. We are experiencing an emotion. And also, because you're present with the fear, you're not pushing it away. You're not scared to feel fear. You're not trying to avoid it at all costs. And so, you're putting a heck of a lot less energy into it by not judging yourself. Instead, you're allowing yourself to experience that emotion. You're allowing the emotion to move through you. You know, when you think about that word emotion, it is energy in emotion. If we just allow it, it will move. These simple little tips are really going to help. And I hope and trust that they will help you take the next step. I am so glad that you're here. And I hope that you take this episode and apply it in your life. Episode 79: Procrastination And Perfectionism - Two Sides Of The Same Coin Hey, everybody. Welcome back. So pleased that you're here today, I'm continuing a few episodes where I talk about this central topic of fear. I explained to you a couple of weeks ago that I've been doing a lot of thinking about this topic, and I see where fear has held me back. Fear continues to be the number one thing that holds my clients back and guess what it's because we're human go figure, right? But it doesn't mean that we can't find new ways of managing ourselves so that our lives are easier and that we know how to manage and learn how to do it in a way that works for us. We can acknowledge our humanness, accept ourselves and continue to grow today. We're talking about two things, procrastination, and perfectionism, two super common topics that come up in my life and in all the conversations that I have with my wonderful clients. I realized that they are two sides of the same coin. We're going to talk about that today. And I'm going to share a three-step strategy on how you can overcome them. You can get moving towards feeling more like yourself, feeling more authentic and getting closer to your goals. The other day I realized I was procrastinating. I was spinning my wheels. I was creating content that is going to help coaches start and build their coaching practice in a super easy and authentic way. Using a method that is supportive and encouraging. I always include this step-by-step, exactly what to do and when to do it. Then I like to include a whole bunch of mindset stuff too. Because most of the time when we're becoming coaches, it's something that you've never done before. It's normal to run up against fear and expectation and the places where you are just unsure, you don't quite know what to do. We often self-sabotage. I was experiencing procrastination because of all of this. Now, for me, procrastination means you put off starting something you're committed to it. You might even want to do it, but you put off the start of it. It might be from the very beginning, or it might be the next stage that you're starting. This is like the beginning of a continuum, procrastination putting off is the start, and then farther down the continuum is perfectionism. And it's the thing that says, it's not good enough. I need to make this thing perfect before I can call it done. I need it to be perfect for me to finish it and put it out in the world. Procrastination is starting the journey or any step of the journey and perfectionism is saying, it's not good enough so I can't be finished with it yet. Where I think this really hinders us and where it really has an effect on our lives in the world is that so many of the things that you want to do in your life are wonderful, amazing, inspired things. Maybe you want to write a book, maybe you want to become a coach. Maybe you want to quit your day job. All those things that you dream about, they sit in your mind, they take up space. You think about them over and over and over again. Then procrastination and perfectionism show up. So, we never actually fully bring them truly into the world. You may dream for instance, about writing, publishing a book. Maybe you've always wanted to write your family legacy story and you dream about it. But then you procrastinate about the starting because you don't know exactly how you're going to do it. You've never done it before, or you start your outline. And now it's time to start writing that first draft, the individual chapters and at the start of each chapter, you may run into procrastination. Now you're at the starting place, right? Perfectionism shows up like this. Your first draft is done. It's being edited and it's time to get the cover design. Next, it's time to put it out in the world. It's time to tell people it's done. It's time to share it. But perfectionism says, Ooh, that's not good enough. No, I don't think I'm quite ready yet to publish it. Maybe I should edit it one more time. Maybe I should read it through one more time. Or, you know, that cover isn't quite right. Anyway, I should fix it. So it's perfect. You want to make it perfect. This is where procrastination stops you from starting and starting every single step and perfection doesn't let you finish. Do you see what I mean? Two sides of the same coin. They're both safety triggers. The way our mind works to keep us safe is to keep us from stretching, from trying something new or to putting something out there in the world. So, at the heart of it, there is fear here. It's wanting you to hold back from starting, or it's wanting to hold you back from completing, but it's still fear. It might be fear of not fitting in. It might be fear of not being good enough. It might be fear of what people might say, but at the heart of it, it's fear. And so yes, underlying fear often stops us from starting or completing, but that dream will still sit there in your head, and it won't go away. So, what do you do, right? That's why I've got these three little strategies that you can use to help overcome both procrastination and perfectionism. All three strategies. Start with the letter. A, the first is acceptance. The second is accountability and the third is anticipation. So those are my three steps to help you deal with both procrastination and perfectionism. Let's talk a little bit about them starting with number one, acceptance. Acceptance Acceptance is where I want to remind you you’re human, that you are going to do the best you can given the resources that you have given where you are in your life. And to allow that it's okay, that you are enough exactly how you are right now. It is accepting that what you create will be good, maybe even great and accepting that if you have that dream, it's meant to be created in this world, by you, that there is something there that says it's up to you to bring this into the world. Your voice is important. Your message is important. This is important. Accepting that you bring it into the world for yourself.
Episode 175: Do’s and Don'ts for Coaches Description We’re diving into the She Coaches Coaches vault, to share with you one of our most popular standout episodes. Whether you’re a long-time listener or new to the podcast, get ready to enjoy a fresh perspective in your new listening space. We explore some of the myths and truths surrounding the advice new coaches often encounter. Let’s challenge conventional wisdom so you can spend your time, energy and money on the things that will help you make progress to becoming a thriving coach. Highlights: Website Myth Busting: Navigate the common myth that new coaches must have a website from the start. Instead let’s focus on relationship building, client interactions, attraction, and coaching skills. Client-Centric Approach: Shift your perspective and prioritize client engagement and interaction over the creation of a polished website. Authentic connections and coaching skills are the real drivers for success in the coaching arena. Strategic Timing for Websites: Acknowledge the eventual importance of a website but we recommend delaying its creation until after you’ve worked with some clients. This will help you to gain insights into your coaching style and understanding the evolving needs of clients. Invest Wisely: Caution against investing heavily (time, money and energy) in an intricate website design, many new coaches quickly find their initial investment becomes obsolete as their coaching style and understanding evolved. Social Platform Wisdom: Encourage new coaches to leverage social platforms like Instagram & LinkedIn for organic interactions, storytelling, and finding their unique voice. The Shop Owner Analogy: Draw parallels between a new coach and a shop owner, stressing the importance of having something to offer (coaching package that help a client get a desired outcome) and inviting potential clients in the door. Facing First Client Nerves: It’s normal to feel nervous about finding your first clients. We caution against using building your website as a distraction. Instead foster authentic conversations and learn how to invite clients. Strategic Website Creation: If you’ve already started building your website, keep it simple, save elaborate designs for later stages once you’ve got more coaching experience and built your clientele. Business Building Realization: Listen I want you to let you know that it’s common for new coaches to get a big post-coaching certification surprise. They discover that they need business-building skills and strategies, in addition to great coaching skills and this is not a welcome surprise. You can’t be a coach if you don’t have any clients. Let’s learn to appreciate and enjoy both coaching and business development. Business Basics for Coaches: The essential components of a coaching business can be summarized by five simple steps—finding and talking to people, inviting them to coach, scheduling calls, getting paid, and maintaining communication—advocating for simplicity and streamlining to maximize coaching time. What do cliff diving and online business have in common? Do you ever watch cliff divers? Or do you watch the high divers in the Olympics? The champion divers stand with only their toes touching the board and their back facing the pool. Completely still Poised and ready to go.I love watching these divers. I am in awe of their power and grace and I can only imagine the countless hours spent training for that one moment. And then I watch them takeoff. They spin or somersault and finally form a perfect arrow to pierce the water. It’s an amazing work of art.Nothing at all like my REAL WORLD experience. 🤷🏼♀️When I was a kid, I spent most afternoons at the local pool. We would swim and splash and play for hours. In the background were the diving boards. We’d have fun lining up to jump off the 1 or 3-metre boards. We couldn’t wait to see who could make the biggest splash or the biggest belly flop. And then beside the “little kid” boards stood the 10-metre diving platform. We’d double-dog dare each other to jump off the high platform! I was always a nervous kid, but even I was tempted. For days we would stare up at those diving platforms and wonder what would happen if we had the nerve to jump. And so it began…I’d stand at the entrance to the high diving boards,, and with my knees knocking I’d climb the staircase. I’d walk out onto the platform and look around. Now I don’t know if you’ve ever done this but when you’re on that 10-metre platform it’s a long way down! So here’s me, looking down at “certain death” My palms are sweating and I’m hyperventilating and ….I walked back down the stairs. OMG, I chickened out! The worst was that my friends (and the big kids) had seen me chicken out. There’s nothing like a little bit of public humiliation for motivation. Eventually, with my stomach in knots, I got the courage to jump off the 10-metre board. Frankly, it was terrifying, but I lived and I felt powerful as a result. Why am I telling you this story? It’s because many online entrepreneurs are scared of visibility, frightened of being seen. They are scared to do their first Facebook Live, press send on an email or post a blog post on their website. It’s completely natural to be nervous when you’re doing something for the first few times. ♀️♀️♀️ Maybe you feel like I did when I was ready to jump off that diving board. And that’s why I wrote this blog post >>>> How to go from on edge to at ease with being visible online. Check it out >>> HERE. I too have been back up on that high diving board the last few weeks thinking of a change and now it’s time to share it with you.I am shifting my business and I hope you will choose to continue to be part of my community.I now help both online entrepreneurs and coaches overcome their fears and doubts, confusion, procrastination, overwhelm and shiny object syndrome and create a life and business they love while making great money!Because when you change your thoughts anything becomes possible.

Episode 37: What Is Decision Fatigue And How To Avoid It. Hi there, I’m so glad you’re here and Welcome to this episode of She Coaches Coaches. Let me ask you if this sounds familiar? Do you spin in your thoughts? Do you decide and then reconsider and change your mind…? only to go back to what you chose the first time???? It could sound something like this. Nervous and excited as you get ready for a practice coaching call. What do I say if someone asks me how much I charge for coaching? Ummmmm, well she charges $500 an hour and he charges $ 50…so I could charge $100, after all I am new…oh no, don’t I need a package. Oooh how many sessions maybe 6? Ok I charge $600 for 6 sessions. That’s it. that’s what I’ll tell them. But I am new, maybe I should give a discount, after all I’ll get to practice coaching and I’m really just a baby coach. Oh, that seems like a lot of money maybe it should be $500 for 6 sessions ok yup $500 for 6 sessions that’s a good number. Indecision, back and forth, deciding and then changing your mind. Spending a ton of time and energy on this one decision. I’ve seen coaches second guess their decisions repeatedly and they are spending way more time on making decisions than they are in actually creating coaching clients. Decision making is a skill, and it feels like there’s a lot on the line. We want it to be the “right” decision even though you’ve never been a coach before, you’re in a new chapter of your life or you’re doing something completely different. I’ve been thinking a lot about decision making skills lately and I know that it can be uncomfortable. So, over the next few episodes we’ll touch more on decisioning. In the meantime, this episode let’s talk about decision fatigue. It’s very common and negatively affects many of us so it’s worth learning about so you can grow and learn how to manage it. Today the topic is decision fatigue. I have to tell you that I experienced some of this decision fatigue when I was deciding the topic for this episode. It’s actually one of the reasons I settled on it. I was back and forth, I started, reconsidered, and then switched focus. Enough already – I figure since I’m still learning to make better decisions, then maybe you are too! So, let’s talk more about decision fatigue. We’re going to talk about: What it is and how it shows up in your life. How you experience it and the result of living with decision fatigue. Then we’ll cover 6 ways you can avoid (or at least minimize) decision fatigue. Let’s get started. What is this decision fatigue? We make hundreds of choices every day. Which show do you want to watch? Do you want pizza or sushi? If you want pizza, where do you want to order it from? Delivery or pick up? What toppings? What size? It’s true the choices are endless. Decision fatigue suggests that we have a finite amount of effective decision-making ability before this resource is depleted for the day. Think about how many decisions you make even before your day starts: Should I have another cup of coffee or grab one at Starbucks? You decided on Starbucks, now you’re at the drive through – what size, flavour, type of coffee. Do I want a caramel macchiato or an americano 2/3 full with cream? Whip? Almond milk. What should I make for breakfast for the kids? Do I want to eat breakfast? What would taste good? What do we have in the fridge? What should I wear to today? What’s clean? Do I need to do more laundry or take a trip to the cleaners? Have the kids done their homework? Have they packed their backpack for the day? And on and on it goes. Essentially, decision fatigue is that our ability to make the best choices run out at some time during the day. How does it feel? How do you experience it? At times you might feel overwhelmed, irritated, anxious, stressed, or just plain tired. Other times you may just make a decision to get it off your plate…. any decision. Or you might delegate it to someone else. It might sound like this: “Sigh……Whatever, whatever, you want. Whatever you think – it’s fine with me.” How do you know you’re experiencing it? It’s not always easy to know. But here are some ways it could show up in your life. If you’re procrastinating…. “I’ll do it later.” Decrease in will power or being impulsive….” oh, whatever…sure super size the fries.” Avoid…. “I just can’t deal with this right now.” In other words, when you feel overloaded you start to withdraw or even shut down. The result of decision fatigue Three common results are: Poor choices. Did you super size the fries when you had planned to have salad. Spinning in indecision or second guessing. It might be that you get stuck in indecision…you make a fast decision, then spend more time and energy second guessing yourself. Then you change your mind and bounce back and forth between the different options. It’s like watching a game of ping pong as your mind bounces around. When you can’t decide what to do, or how it needs to be done and you just can’t muster up the energy to make a start or to keep going. This adds up to a decrease in productivity. 6 Ways to avoid decision fatigue. Here are a few ways you can avoid decision fatigue. 1. Be Aware First, being self aware and clear on how you’re thinking, and feeling is always at the top of the list. If you’re tired, frustrated, hungry then more than likely you’re not going to make the best decisions, right? 2 Intentionally decrease your choices by reducing your options Here are some examples or ways you can approach this: Create and wear a “uniform” – now I say that in quotations. If dressing is one of the ways you creatively express yourself don’t shut it down. However, on days where you know you’ve got lots on the go and you want to “get stuff done” lean on a capsule wardrobe or use outfit formulas to minimize your decisions. Steve Jobs was famous for this with his black turtleneck and jeans, so is Barack Obama. My go to when I was in corporate, I used to wear dresses. They always look good, they’re easy to put on and go. Less pieces, less choices. Think how convenient it is when your kids have to wear a school uniforms, they don’t need to decide what to wear today. The decision is made for them (and you). Eat the same breakfast every morning. Decide what makes you feel good and energized and make it a habit. Every morning I eat pretty much the same thing…grated zucchini with sun dried tomatoes, egg whites all in a scramble add some avocado for healthy fat and that’s it. I don’t have to think, choose, wonder if I’ve got the ingredients…if it’s time for breakfast I’ve got one thing and that makes it easy. If you do the morning coffee run order the same thing on the app every morning before you head out. 3. Set up routines If every morning you like do to a few things to get your day started creating a routine. Instead of choosing what you feel like doing every morning. Hmmm, do I feel like doing yoga? Or maybe I’ll just drink coffee and read a book before I start getting ready for the day. Choose in advance. Lock it in and then you don’t have to think or decide every morning whether you feel like doing yoga or journaling. Every morning I drink coffee, meditate and journal before I start my day. Then when I get up, I don’t have to think about it…. because I’ve already chosen. You know when I think of routines, I can see some of the value in following that 1960’s homemaker too. Think of what this professional homemaker might have done to create routines. -Plan your lunches and dinners for the week. Once a week make all the meal choices. Is Thursday taco night? Do you put a slow cooker meal on Monday and now you’ve got meals for a couple of nights? -Grocery shopping on one day of the week (or even better for the 2021 version: grocery delivery or meal prep kit delivery) How much of your life can you make into a routine, so you don’t have to decide “what’s for dinner tonight” every afternoon? 4. Make your important decisions early in the day Work on the important stuff first. Make your choices when you’ve got energy. New coaches, this is the time to make decisions about your practice, when you’re fresh. I know there are what seems like endless decisions when you’re starting out. Do I want a Facebook group? What social media platform will I go on? (my advice choose one at most two and specialize) Do you want to blog? Why is this the best option for you? What about podcasting? What will you do to create clients? What kind of networking do you choose? When faced with a decision, think about what you like and don’t like. Consider how you like to spend your time and how you like to interact with people. Keep in mind your style and skills. In other words, consider your options, think about them, once you’ve decided on the what also decide why you like this option. Decide early in the day, and then once you’ve decided…. 5. Stick with it When you make your decisions, decide why you like it, why you’ve chosen it and then don’t go back and second guess. Sticking with it is a new habit that I’ve found so helpful…. I’ll tell myself… oh no Candy you already made that decision. You’re going to do a podcast episode every week. That’s just what we do. Sticking with it, learning to decide and then practicing liking your decision will free you up to do so much more. 6. Minimize inputs. Limit your focus. What do I mean by this? I’m talking directly to you new coaches here. Minimize how many people you give your attention to. I regularly go into my email inbox and unsubscribe from newsletters that no longer resonate with me. Reduce your time on social media. You can delete the apps off your phone, so you don’t jump on there automatically and start scrolling. Decide on one or two mentors that you are going to follow and learn from. Understand there are LOTS of ways to create clients and to create a successful coaching business. So…. that means there are hundreds even thousands of people vying for your attention – they want to tell you “their “way. And yes, I’m sure it worked for them…. but you don’t need to spend your energy choosing to watch this masterclass, deciding to buy this small program, or electing whether to sign up for this video challenge. Choose your mentor, your guide and stick with them. Hey, I so appreciate that you’re here as part of my community and I hope you’re applying this stuff too. Hey, I’m so glad you’re here and welcome to this episode of She Coaches Coaches. Before we jump into today’s episode, I want to tell you about a new thing I’ve got on the go. It’s called the Coaches Referral Directory and it’s a select group of coach clients that I’ve worked with over the past year. If you’ve been following me on this podcast, you’ll know that my word (or rather) phrase of the year is “Go Giver”. And choosing this word has had a major positive impact on my business and the lives of my clients. My mission is to help my clients in any way that I can. Sure, they hire me to work with them, mentor them and coach them to have greater success. And they get a ton of value in our coaching sessions. And that being said I knew there was even more that I could do. Early in the year I started to look for ways to embody this go-giver philosophy. For me that means I get curious and ask myself questions. I coach myself and see what ideas come up. Of course, not every idea is amazing, but you’d be surprised how many great ideas I do come up with. I kindle the little fire of inspiration in my mind with my thoughts and feelings, then during my morning routine I often get the most incredible ideas. And this Coaches Referral Directory is one of them. So how does it work? Well, I’m glad you asked. I invited some of my clients from this past year to be part of it. I set the criteria, I needed a photo, a bio, a link to their website and social media information. Then I pulled together a separate page on my website to feature these coaches. My goal is to drive traffic to this site and support them in attracting more of their best clients. I get a ton of organic traffic to my website, but I’m a life and business coach for coaches, right? Well, that means I can’t help everyone who shows up on my website, or in my space looking for help. But I have clients who can. I’ve got clients who are executive and leadership coaches, wellness coaches, parenting coaches, relationship coaches…. you name it I’ve got them So, for me this is a 3 way win – that’s a win-win-win. I help my clients, give them another opportunity to be discovered. The coaches themselves will share it with their audience and even further they can network independently and refer each other. It helps me. It helps my clients and It helps their potential clients too. This is exactly the type of impact I wanted to create as a Go-Giver. If you want to see what it looks like or you’re looking for a coach. Then you should check it out. Also, if you want to be featured, the only way you can get on this page is if you are one of my clients. It’s only one of a number of initiatives I’ve created for my private clients over and above the programs, training and coaching that I provide. If this interests you, we should talk, let’s see if it’s a good time for us to work together. I put the link in the show notes so you can schedule an appointment. So now let’s dive into today’s episode. We’re going to talk about this one short sentence. Why bother? These two words don’t seem like a big deal, they’re just two little words But they are everything and here’s why. How often do you have a to-do list ready for the day? You know what you should do, you know what you want to do and then when it comes time to do “that thing” – whatever it is. Maybe it’s reaching out to potential clients, writing a newsletter, going to an online networking event. It could be any of these things. When we think “why bother” we hesitate and so often we just stop. We don’t do that thing we were going to do. Now when I hear this in my own mind, I know it’s just my brain trying to conserve energy and keep me safe. My brain thinks some weird things, and I bet yours does too. My brain thinks online networking group events are very dangerous. Yes, I’m smiling as I say this, but my brain still wants to try and make me believe it. So ‘why bother’ happens, just those two little words can derail your entire plan! Now when you decided to put that thing on your to do list you had a really good reason, and you knew that it was worth doing. Maybe your brain is nervous (if you don’t know me well yet know this – I always refer to my brain as a separate entity because it helps me to choose better thoughts, feelings and actions instead of living my life on autopilot. If you don’t already, I would highly suggest you take them same approach. Our brain is like an amazing computer and we’ve got to remember to reassure it and program it for what we want!) Maybe your brain thinks you’ll never reach that goal and it wants to save you disappointment. Maybe your brain knows that you can and will reach that goal and it’s scared of the success and what that success might bring. It could be any, or all, of these things. A way to save energy. A way to avoid danger. A way to avoid feeling disappointed or potential embarrassment. A way to avoid success! That last one often triggers me when I realize the thought “why bother” might be a way to avoid success and what it will bring. So now when I hear those two little words in my mind. I remind myself, why I want this. Why do I want my goal of an even more highly profitable and impactful coaching and training business? How will creating this, impact the lives of those around me? I remember, it will make the lives of my family so much easier and give us more opportunity. It will allow my clients to move closer to their dreams. It will further the impact of coaching and help people have even more access to fulfillment and purpose. I remind myself; I’ve changed so much over the past few years. I’ve gone from senior (and deeply unhappy) corporate leader to fulfilled creative business owner. I managed those changes and I’m pretty sure I will be able to handle the changes from even more success too. That sentence “why bother” is completely ineffective when I remember WHY I’m doing this. And this gives me the inspiration to take that next step (or leap). I hope does the same for you. I hope this episode reminds you of how much the world needs you and your gifts. So, when you find yourself pulling back and saying…’why bother’ you too will remember that nothing is more important than what you are creating, the clients you will help and the growth you can experience. Hey, I so appreciate that you’re here as part of my community and I hope you’re applying this stuff too. I want to hear from you, click through to the episode notes and leave me a comment tell me the kinds of things you want to learn more about. The Archetypes Of Video Magnetism: Be More YOU, Show Up More Authentically In Your Marketing with Guest Emmy Wu Episode Description In today’s episode I’m joined by Emmy Wu, of Emmy Wu Media. We talk about archetypes. Specifically how to identify your most natural archetype and how to lean in to this strength to show up more authentically and powerfully on video. Emmy has some great tips to help business owners and coaches overcome their blocks in showing up on video. Sometimes these blocks are pretty obvious - like fear of judgment - but other times they can be more sneaky and show up through our actions without us even realizing it. Emmy believes that the biggest blocks often relate to how much we value ourselves. Maybe we don't feel like our opinions are worthy or we've been told our whole lives that we can't do certain things. These beliefs can really hold us back, especially when it comes to growing our business and putting ourselves out there. Thankfully, she has developed a framework to help people identify where they might be holding themselves back and how to tap into their own strengths to move forward. By valuing our own voice and opinions and sharing them boldly, we can enjoy the process of showing up on video and really make progress in our businesses. So, if you're feeling like you're stuck or unsure of how to move forward, these tips might just be what you need to get going again! Episode 75: The Value Of A Goal. Today we're going to talk about what is the value of a goal. Now I’m not talking about those dry, boring goals that they want you to set at work. The annual performance evaluation goals. And I'm also not talking about the goals where your employer comes to you and says, okay, here's the company goals for the year. What's going to be your role in it? And here's what we want you to do. I'm talking about your goals. What do you want? And why do you want it? And so it may not be exactly what you think at first, right? Often we think that the value of setting a goal is achieving the goal. But what if it's not all about just achieving the goal? It's not a line in the sand. It's not a number that you want to hit. It's not necessarily that new business or that new promotion. What if the value of the goal is not the end result, but everything that happens from when you set the goal to when it comes true? What if that's the real value of the goal? The who you're becoming, the how you're learning to try new things, how you're learning to believe in yourself and in your abilities, how you are growing as a person, how you're expanding and what you're learning and the new ways of being in the world. What if that's the real value of the goal? When you think about a goal, every goal is a desire. I want a new home. I want a new car, I want a six figure business. I want to be a fully booked coach. I want to add another comma to my income. I want I want I want. fill in the blank I want… what. But all of those things that we want are actually a desire for a feeling. Because if you think about it, the life that you're living right now is probably the life that you were dreaming of five years ago. All the things that you imagined would come true when you reach the goal. When you think of where you are right now is really how did you expect to feel? What if you could feel that way and learn to feel that way all along? And what if that is one of the big values of the goal, practicing a new feeling, practicing feeling successful, practicing feeling proud and confident all the way along to creating the result that you're looking for. What if you could actually do that? I'm going to tell you it’s 100% possible. What a Goal is not Let me start with talking about what a goal is NOT. A goal is not in any way a measure of your worth. A goal is nothing to do with who you are at your core and how deserving your are. You are completely worthy of everything that you can imagine right now. Nothing you can do, no action you can take, no hoop you can jump through affects your value. No new promotion no fully booked calendar packed with amazing dream clients is going to make you any worthier than you are right this minute. When you set a goal, if you secretly hope that somehow, it's going to make you more worthy. Then you’re going to be sorely mistaken because you're already worthy. You're already totally valuable just the way you are. You've got something this world needs and I'm hoping that you're getting to understand that. You’re no more worthy than any other person. No matter your education level, your hair color, your religion, nothing. None of that affects your worth. So that's what a goal is not. It's not a way to feel more worthy. Goal = Desire to Feel I mentioned earlier that every goal is really a desire for a feeling. Let me show you how you can go about figuring that out. When you think about a goal, maybe you're thinking, I want to be a coach, I want my first 5 paying clients or I want to be fully booked and have a successful thriving business. Maybe I want to have more travel in my life. Maybe I want to meet the love of my life. Maybe I want to go back to school and get that degree. These are all great aspirations. Whatever your goal is, the way that you're going to understand how you want to feel is to ask yourself this simple question. Why? Why do I want that? Why do I want that goal? Is it going to give you prestige? Is it going to make you feel successful? Will it make you feel secure? Why do I want more money? More freedom, more success, more security? Create a list. There's no right or wrong answer. Every answer is a great answer. And then ask, what is it about success? Why do I want success? Because you want to feel something. Maybe you want to feel successful. Do you see what I mean? Every one of those goals that you think of are wonderful goals. Ask yourself why? Why do you want it? And then create a list, it may be a long list or a short list. Your list is up to you. Why do I want that? Why do I want to be a coach? I want paying clients because I want to have my own business and I want to feel free and I want to feel like I’m making a difference in this world and I want to feel like I’m living my purpose. You can see how every one of these goals is a reason for a feeling. Once you know the feeling, just know that you can start fostering that feeling today. You don't have to wait until that goal is achieved to start feeling that feeling.. A goal is a way of creating that feeling through desire. I believe that every goal that you have, every goal that I have is something that was given to me because it's a chance for me to grow. It's a chance for you to grow. It's a chance for you to learn more, to be the next version of yourself, to expand, to feel more of yourself, to become even more authentic and even more fulfilled. Every single goal is a drive for a feeling and a drive for expansion and growth. Goal Setting Hurdles You don’t know what you want, so you don’t set a goal. You might feel confused about what goal to choose this year. This is common and I've had this issue before as well – so don’t worry you’re not alone.. It might sound like this, Oh, Candy's talking again about setting goals. She does this every December. She does this. Every January she's talking to get again about setting goals. When I ask, what do you want? You might feel like a deer stuck in the headlights. And you might think “I don't know. I don't really know what I want.” You might not know the specifics of your goal but you do know how you want to feel. Maybe one of the reasons that your brain is spinning is because goals feel risky and your brain, wants to keep you safe. So, when it says, I don't know, I don't know. I don't know. You never have to figure it out. Well, what if you allowed yourself, what if you got a little bit curious and said, well, if I did have a goal, what might it be? If a goal was actually possible, what might that goal be? See what comes up for you. If your brain, and I love to kind of refer to your brain as something that's sort of outside of you just because it helps you separate that security mechanism from the part of you that really wants some bigger life. Ask yourself, what do I want? And if your brain says, I don't know. You could ask yourself, how do I want to feel? Do you want to feel more confident? Do you want to feel more successful? More empowered? Like you have clarity? What are those feelings that you want? Once you start to get in touch with those feelings, the goals will start to come to you. Your brain might be trying to help you by saying, I don't know, because it knows if you never set the goal, then you're never going to be uncomfortable. You're never going to try new things. You're never going to fail. You're never going to realize that you're resilient, that you can think of new things and that you can try again and that you can believe in yourself. You never have to have all that learning. If you never knew what your goal was in the first place. Ask yourself, how do I want to feel? And then come up with a goal. It doesn't have to be a massive goal. It can be a small goal. Start somewhere. Set It And Forget It So next, what gets in the way of you setting a goal? Maybe you set an exciting goal, something that sounds just right. Remember your brain? The brain that loves to keep you safe? Your brain….in it’s quest to keep you safe gives you the satisfaction of setting the goal but then you forget about it. Have you ever done that? I know I sure have. What do you do? You start a habit to keep that goal in mind. Every day you do a little something for that goal. You write yourself a note and keep it in your workspace or put it on the bathroom mirror where you’ll see it while brushing your teeth. Little notes, so you don’t forget If you’re listening to this and it’s June, and you realize you set a goal and forgot about it. I want you to start your year today. You don't have to wait to December to plan a year. That 12-month period starts this minute. If you're listening and it's later in the season, don't worry, you can start any time. Any day can be January 1st You Take a Detour to ‘Be Realistic’ Okay what's next? What's next is being realistic. That's the third big thing. You set a goal and it’s one that makes you go, oh, that's how it'd be amazing. And then you talk yourself out of the dream. You talk to yourself, out of it. You say, oh, come on, nobody can do that. That's completely unrealistic. I should make a realistic goal. Something that I can actually hit. Again, you see how your brain tries to talk you out of taking those risks because it's scared that you're going to be disappointed. It's scared that you're going to stretch the boundaries of who you are. And when you stretch those boundaries, it thinks it's going to be dangerous. It wants you to stay in that cozy little cave with the little bonfire in front of the cave and never try anything new. What do you do when your brain says, be more realistic? Begin by having a little talk with yourself. You could say, listen, I know you're just trying to keep me safe, and I appreciate that so much, but we're going to try this. And you can even tell your brain, listen, I know this goal is impossible. So, I got you. You're telling me it's impossible and I should be doing something realistic. Guess what? I already know it's impossible. But let's see how close we can get. Let me know in the comments. What's your big goal this year? And if you do need some more help setting your goal and creating a plan to achieve it. I’m honored to invite you to be part of my community too. Sacred Sales: Transforming Coaches into Empowered Salespeople with Vanessa Broers Ep 165 Episode Description In this podcast interview with Vanessa Broers, the discussion revolves around the challenges coaches face when it comes to selling their services. Vanessa provides valuable insights and practical advice on how to approach sales in a way that aligns with a coach's values and maintains authenticity. One: Shift in Perspective: Vanessa emphasizes that coaches need to shift their perspective on sales. Instead of viewing it as something inauthentic or manipulative, they should see sales as a means to help clients make empowered choices that align with their true desires. Two: Creating Safety: Building trust and safety in sales conversations is crucial. Coaches can achieve this by being loving, honest, and authentic in their interactions, thereby making potential clients feel respected and understood. Three: Integration with Coaching: Vanessa highlights that sales and coaching are not separate entities; they can complement each other. Coaches can use their coaching skills within sales conversations to help potential clients gain clarity and make informed decisions. Highlights: Many coaches find it challenging to sell their services because they associate sales with manipulation and pushiness. Vanessa discusses the disillusionment many coaches face when they realize they have to sell their services in addition to providing help. The fear of appearing pushy or manipulative in sales often prevents coaches from embracing the sales aspect of their profession. Vanessa introduces the concept of "sacred sales," which involves helping clients make empowered choices while being true to oneself. Sales, when done from a place of authenticity and respect, can be seen as a deep service rather than a transaction. Vanessa emphasizes the importance of taking it slow and acknowledging that learning to sell is a skill that requires time and practice. Sales conversations should focus on helping clients gain clarity on their desires, identify obstacles, and understand the consequences of inaction. Vanessa advises coaches to make potential clients feel respected, welcomed, and understood during sales conversations. The coach's role is to create an atmosphere of love, honesty, and authenticity, allowing potential clients to trust the process and themselves. Vanessa encourages coaches to approach sales with the mindset that they are already working with the potential client, fostering trust and transparency in the conversation. Episode 53: Keep your word to yourself and build self-trust with integrity Hi there and welcome to this episode of She Coaches Coaches. I’m so pleased you’re here listening to me, and I love creating these episodes for you. Today’s episode is a real-life / real-time example that I wanted to share with you. All about integrity But before we get started, I want to share this review with you It’s from Melissa M_Narrator. Here’s what she has to say Candy is THE BEST It didn’t take many podcast episodes for me to realize I NEEDED Candy in my life as a coach. She’s everything you’d imagine she’d be. Caring, curious, kind, empathetic and wise. I feel like a stronger coach, a better wife / mother and kinder to myself after becoming her client. Just listening to this will improve your life. All the stars! Melissa is one of my clients and I love her. She’s going to be a guest on an upcoming episode. I so appreciate her leaving a review, I know it’s a bit of a tricky thing to do. And I’d appreciate it if you would leave a review too.. I read all my reviews on these episodes and they are one way I know that I am making a difference and helping you. If you want me to read your review and give you a shout out on this podcast, then leave a review. I’ve created some instructions to make this a little easier for you – see below in the episodes notes. I had a super special vacation, my son got married and he married a wonderful woman. We just love her and we’re so happy she’s officially part of our family. We always felt like she was family, but their commitment to each other made it even more official. They got married at our cabin, out in nature and we had a gorgeous sunny day. They stood by the ocean, with the granite cliffs and twisted arbutus trees all around while they exchanged vows. The sun was shining, ah it was wonderful. Unfortunately, they could only have a few people, so many family members couldn’t be invited because of the location and because of Co-vid regulations. So that was too bad but in the end, it’s the start of their marriage – which will last for years, which truly is so much more important than the brief moment of one ceremony. Anyway, let’s jump into today’s topic. Let me start with a question Do you have integrity? If you’re like me, you’d say YES, of course, I do. And I guess you and I probably share some of the same qualities and values because you are listening to this podcast. Integrity is important to me: it’s defined as doing the right thing in a reliable way. It's a personality trait that we admire since it means a person has a moral compass that doesn't waver. Integrity usually means We practice honesty We respect others and ourselves We generate trust We take responsibility We keep our promises Sounds pretty good right? If I give my word to another, you bet I’m going to keep my promise. I take responsibility to live up to that commitment. So, here’s where I fell down, I practice integrity with others, and I realize that I don’t always practice it with myself. I keep my word to others, but I don’t always keep it to myself What about you? Do you find that you don’t always keep your word to yourself? Take a breath and let that settle in. It doesn’t mean you’re a bad person, it means we want to have integrity and sometimes it’s easier to have it with others than it is to have it with ourselves. Here’s how this showed up for me this week. I’m just back from vacation, as I said earlier for the marriage of my son and normally I batch my content. I thought I’d created enough of these podcast episodes to make sure you had consistent episodes that show up every week in your preferred player. But I didn’t I messed up. So yesterday I started to make excuses. Oh, it’s ok if I don’t do an episode this week. It’s been a busy week, it’s ok for me to miss just this one. And I thought I felt ok with it. But I woke up in the middle of the night ill-at-ease. Something was bugging me. I rolled around in bed for a while and then I realized. I was disappointed with myself. First, because I was letting myself down. I commit ( and I say that word with strength) to creating and releasing a new podcast episode every week. And I wasn’t keeping my word to myself. Second, I wasn’t keeping my word to you, my listeners. You are in my space, and my role as the leader is to show up, lead and support you as best I can. I take my role as leader to heart, not because it’s hard – but because it’s important and I value it. I give my word to myself and to YOU. and we are both important. I know you get to choose when you pop your ear buds in and exactly what you listen to. Where you give your attention and time and energy. I know there are listeners who have been with me since the beginning of this podcast who wait for the next episode to drop and then listen to it when it goes live. They listen every single week.. Yes, you heard me…..Every. Single. Week. And if that’s you I am deeply honored. Whether you are new or you’ve been listening consistently for the past year. I am so thankful that you chose to listen to my podcast or read my posts. I don’t take that lightly and so here I am. Recording it at the last minute, sending it to my editor ( and truthfully ) inconveniencing him. Because integrity is important to me. I give my word and I am learning to be the woman who keeps her word. So now over to you… where do you say you’re going to do something and then don’t keep your word to yourself? It’s easy isn’t it to slough on ourselves? I’m not sharing this with you so that you are mean to yourself. I’m sharing it because we coaches go first, we are always learning and we are guides and role models for our clients. Allow that this may be the case, that sometimes you don’t keep your word to yourself and that you will do better. Recognize if this pattern is one that shows up for you. Treat yourself with compassion, maybe you’ve taken on too much, maybe you’ve overloaded yourself. Maybe you’re just used to over committing because you know you will let yourself off the hook. But then what happens? When you repeatedly let yourself off the hook you lose self-trust. Ralph Waldo Emerson said: Self-trust is the first key to success. Trusting yourself and being trustworthy are core to your confidence. Trusting yourself is one of the most helpful things you can do for you in your life. It can help build your confidence, allow others to trust you more, and makes decision-making much easier too. I hope I’ve got you thinking. Is this a chance for you re-assess what you commit to? Maybe it’s time for you to decide to consciously commit to less. Maybe it’s time for you to practice self-compassion. Maybe it’s time for you to step up and keep your word to yourself. Believe me when you do, you will build a store of self-trust and you will feel empowered and so much better about yourself. To build your self-trust, start small, take it step by step. Be awake and aware. Watch for places that you overcommit and adjust. Hold yourself accountable Treat yourself with compassion remember you are building a new skill, so don’t expect to be perfect. Of course, you will slip from time to time. Recognize, and appreciate your growth. Lots of people say celebrate, I like that word appreciate. Practice, practice, practice and you will build that self-trust, so you will be capable of so much more and your self-confidence will soar. Alright, that’s it for today. Episode 123: How To Get Much More Accomplished Hi, I’m so glad you’re here!. This is another podcast episode that I’m recording in Mexico. I decided that it would be so much fun to batch a bunch of podcast episodes and that’s just one of the reasons I signed up to attend a work-cation with a group of other amazing podcasters. As I write this episode there are so many sounds…there’s a dog barking, a cat meowing close by, a car horn honking, construction people joking and laughing and three different songs playing at the same time - One is from a car driving by, one from the construction site and I have no idea where the third one is coming from all I know is that there is a tuba-no less… Who knows if you’ll hear any of it on the recording…this is a very different atmosphere than my quiet little she shed, and that’s a good thing. A new environment, a different perspective….the sounds of life! So before we dive in to today’s episode I want to invite you to join my community, if you haven’t signed up for any of my free resources or Free Coach’s Toolkit I have to say – well it’s time you did! It's easy to sign up just text COACH to 1-844-246-6259 or you can click the link in the episode notes and become part of my community. Now let’s dive in. I want to talk to you about something I see a lot…ok honestly something that I experience a lot of too. I’m productive – I get a ton of things done for my business. From time to time I look at all the blog posts, programs, podcast episodes and valuable assets I’ve built for my business and I’m amazed – looking back I’m amazed. But it wasn’t always easy, so let me share some thoughts and an approach you can use too. It’s summed up in this quote You can do everything but you can’t do it all at once. How does that sound? Are you an amazing font of creative ideas. Do you have a whole host of projects started but not completed? Maybe you have this great idea…and you start on it…but you forgot you were working on the great idea you had last week. So in the end you have amazing inspired incredible ideas but you got that dopamine hit of inspiration and start….only problem? Few of them are completed, so no one (including you) gets the benefit of these ideas. Dopamine is a type of neurotransmitter and hormone. It plays a role in many important body functions, including pleasurable reward and motivation – in a word it feels good! And we forget that we get the dopamine reward when we come up with the idea and are all excited but we also get a major reward when we complete and accomplish something that’s important. So finishing some of those UFOs is going to be rewarding too! It can go too far right? I’ve heard of coaches with dozens of ufos (unfinished objects). Inspiration is exciting don’t get me wrong I like it too. Most of my inspirations lands in my brain when I first wake up or during my morning meditation. And I agree it’s important to honor the inspiration. It’s like an manual water pump – one you’d see the farm, you prime the pump by pumping the handle and it takes some muscles to get the water flowing, but once it does watch out! You won’t be able to stop it – it just keeps flowing, and eventually your bucket or container overflows too. So yes, inspiration is good. But we can only work on one thing at a time. Here’s an approach that I use. The approach I call it my treasure journal. I have a journal where I write down all the ideas I have. Lists and lists, and sometimes the same idea comes up more than once. But I choose only one to work on at a time. I know there are those among you, especially the neurodivergent who this approach may not work for. But listen anyway because you know yourself best and I bet you can take this approach and modify it for your style. Then I honor the ideas and they keep flowing and I choose one to work on at a time. When I limit myself to only one I learn to choose wisely. What’s the one idea or project that will help my client best? What will help my business? What helps me move closer to my goals? What helps me grow? Once I decide – that’s it! I don’t look back….now I get it, this is not easy but it’s worth it. Inspiration – decision – execution….that’s my path And I believe I get more done, more accomplished with this approach. And that is satisfying! Excellent – now I want to hear from you. What did you learn from this episode? Will you try this approach Write down your inspiration – then decide – then do it….stick with it – complete it and experience the satisfying joy of accomplishment? I hope so Post a screen shot of this episode and tag me @candymotzek. Tell me what you learned Now if you want even more help, maybe you’ve had enough of trying to figure it all out on your own or taking hours and hours piecing together a solution by going to the googles or watching YouTube videos. Episode 116: Ask An Expert Joey Ragona Working With Your Dream Clients Episode Description Join me as I speak with Joey Ragona, one of my marketing mentors as we talk about how your business can be transformed when you identify and connect with your dream client so that you can create your dream business. We are discussing the concept of dream clients and how it differs from an ideal client avatar. The dream client is essentially someone who is a perfect fit for a business not only in terms of demographics but also shares the same values and characteristics as the business. It is like having a best friend who pays you, where you have a genuine connection beyond just business. The difference between an ideal client avatar and a dream client, where the former is a business fit while the latter is a culture fit. The dream client is someone who would fit right into the culture of the business, like someone you would welcome into your home and enjoy their company. The concept of having clients who are also friends is not common in today's world, but it is possible and something you could consider as a possibility. When it comes to the dream client concept, it's all about building relationships and connections with clients who not only align with your business model and goals but also share your values and beliefs. The idea is to create a culture fit rather than just a business fit, which means going beyond demographics and targeting people who would fit in perfectly with your business's personality and culture. This approach can help you build long-term relationships with clients who are more likely to stick with you, refer you to others, and become brand advocates. To find your dream clients, it's important to define your business's personality and culture, including your values, beliefs, and the type of experience you want to create for your clients. You can then use this information to create a client profile that goes beyond demographics and includes personality traits, values, interests, and behaviors. This will help you identify and attract clients who are a perfect fit for your business and with whom you can build strong, long-lasting relationships. Overall, the dream client concept is a powerful tool for building a thriving business based on meaningful connections and relationships. By focusing on creating a culture fit rather than just a business fit, you can attract and retain clients who not only align with your business goals but also share your values and beliefs. Want to know a little secret? I often suffer from SOS. This deadly (🤣🤣🤣) disease of the online entrepreneur is also known by its full name, Shiny Object Syndrome, and it runs rampant through our community. Here’s what my desk looks like when I’m not careful: Pieces of paper with half-written notes everywhere including on the floor. Colourful post-it notes on the wall beside me .A stack of books and journals. 2 pens, 4 highlighters and 5 brightly coloured gel pens . 10 tabs open on my computer (including Facebook, Pinterest, my calendar and 3 documents I’m trying to write at the same time!) .4 empty cups 🥤My phone vibrating and pinging constantly Can you relate? Or is it just me???? I love working on my business AND I have to be careful about how I manage my mind, and my time. Because, if I allow it, I can spend an entire day distracted, flitting from one task to another and getting very little accomplished. In other words, I can feel busy but not productive or satisfied So, what do I do instead? I plan and then I do. I know this sounds simple and it is. Remember simple does not mean it’s easy. I plan my week, then I plan my days. Each day I choose 3 top priorities to move me closer to my goals. The planning is the easy part. It’s more difficult to do what you say you are going to do! For me, it helps to eliminate as many distractions as possible. Here are some ideas to get you started: -Put your phone on the other side of the room and turn sounds/notifications off -Delete social media apps from your phone -Keep a printed copy of the day’s agenda close so you stay on track -Close the extra tabs on your computer (so you can’t check something quickly) -Turn off all reminders on your computer To give you more strategies, read this blog post: How To Master The 4 Steps Of Kick-Ass Productivity. 10 Things You Didn't Know About Me Ep 051 Hi there and welcome to this episode of She Coaches Coaches. Hey, I’m so glad you’re here. Today I’m doing something completely different. Normally at the start of an episode I share a little of my life but this time I’m diving right in. Because, I’m going to share 10 things you didn’t know about me. I’m feeling kind of vulnerable, and that’s ok. If you’re just joining me on this journey, and you’ve never listened to my podcast before let me fill you in. Normally I teach/talk/coach you. Sometimes my topics are practical how-to strategies, other times it’s mindset, visioning and soul work and then there are the interviews. I’ve been doing interviews with a few of my clients, friends and peers and this is fast becoming my favorite way of capturing an interesting discussion and sharing it with you. But today, I’m going to talk about me! I’ve been feeling the pull to get more connected with you and I thought “well let’s start with me sharing a bit more about myself”. I trust that you will find this episode helpful, and you’ll use it as a reminder that we are all on this journey together. You know, we’ve all got great successes and big mistakes. Sometimes we mess up and that’s life. My aim with this episode is that if you get to know me a little bit more, you too will feel more comfortable with yourself and more accepting of your own progress, hopes and your mistakes too. And you may realize I am exactly the coach and guide for you. I’ve decided to share 10 things you may not know about me. So, in no particular order let’s get started #1 I’m an introvert (with a capital I) What does this mean? For me, it means I recharge my batteries with alone time. I love people, and I thrive on coaching my clients but too much socializing drains me and you’ll often find me heading home early from a party. I’m rarely the one who will stay until 2 in the morning. It’s weird combination right, I love people but too much drains me. This is one of the reasons I love working one on one and in small groups. It’s the connection piece for me, and it’s energizing. #2 I’m a homebody While I thoroughly enjoy travelling (when it’s not COVID time), I get homesick for my family, my dog and my space at the end of the trip. I know many “laptop lifestyle entrepreneurs” who love the idea of months of nomadic world travel as they simultaneously work on their business. While I’m happy for them, that is just so “not me”. Truthfully, when I fly back into Vancouver, the city that I live in I get so excited to see the ocean and the mountains and to know I’m home. #3 I meditate every morning It doesn’t matter what the day brings, this is how I start my day. A few years ago, I completely burned out. I had been working too hard, too many hours and I had zero, zippo, nada work-life balance. I had no boundaries and I used to be on call 24/7 so I even slept with my phone in the bedroom in case there was an emergency in the middle of the night. During my recovery, I learned how to meditate. This daily practice transformed my life, and I still eagerly get up early every morning to meditate before my day begins. It is my favorite time of the day. There is no rule that says you have to meditate first thing in the morning, but I’ve found that is my best time. Meditation keeps me centered and in tune with my authentic self, it makes me happier and contributes to my well being. Lots of people I know tell me they want to meditate but they just can’t quiet their mind or slow their thoughts down. If that’s you, I want to tell you that’s NOT my goal, when I meditate. I expect my thoughts to chatter away, I expect to get restless, I expect to feel like “ I should be doing something constructive instead of just sitting here” . For me meditation is the practice of being human with the busy mind and restlessness and noticing when my focus drifts to my thoughts and then brining it back. It’s not the silence (although at times that is great) it’s the noticing the busy-ness and kindly bringing my mind back to focus, over and over. It’s the act of notice and redirect to my focus, over and over. #4 I’m a Type A driven overachiever I work hard and I’m always pushing myself for more. I know this is not the best habit, and I’ve taken many steps to shift to a healthier way. But I wanted to be open and honest with you that this is something I still struggle with. It drives my husband crazy…my relentless drive to work. I love working and I love creating, accomplishing and achieving. And I’ll continue to find a better way. Now I don’t work weekends (or hardly ever) and rarely work evenings. I’m on the path to progress, not perfection. #5 The furthest south I’ve ever been is Antarctica!!!! And yes I’ve also been to the Falkland Islands and rounded Cape Horn twice. (if you’re not familiar with this it’s normally a treacherous piece of water) I’ll post the photo on this episode page of me looking at the last frontier. Yes, it was amazing. Yes, it was a life-changing experience. If you ever get a chance to go there…. say yes! #6 The furthest north I’ve been is The town of Elsa, Yukon . It’s a private mining town that is about 300km north of Anchorage, Alaska. If you’ve ever done an Alaska cruise they usually end or start in Anchorage. When I was young I spent a summer around the Yukon. I was there for the longest day of the year with more than 22 hours of daylight. #7 I struggle with setting goals I do it. I set goals because it's important and I still find it a challenge. It’s because I want to do everything at once. So narrowing it down to just 1 or two main goals is a challenge. Now I know, I get it, that I can do everything, just not at once but…I’m still interested in trying. #8 I do an Angel Card reading every morning It’s part of my morning routine. I’ll share my morning routine in another episode, but for now you know I meditate and I pull an angel card. My favorite cards are the Doreen Virtue, Archangel Oracle cards. It’s an old set and I know she doesn’t do this anymore, but I appreciate the guidance I get. I don’t know what it is about these particular cards, they inspire me. It’s a simple process, I pull a card and then look at the image and see what I see. What stands out for me, is it the greenery, the halo, the book or the overall look of the card. Then I ask, what does that mean to me today? #9 I’m an engineer It’s funny isn’t it, each of us is a collection of contradictions. It’s true, I have a tough time explaining how I can be a scientific logical engineer who used to be a senior leader in the corporate world who also relies heavily on my intuition and reads Angel Cards every morning. I find this contradiction makes me curious. Our culture values logic, data and things we can “prove” scientifically. And, at the same time, I know there are many things we can’t yet explain because we haven’t designed the equipment sensitive enough to measure them. And why do we need to explain everything – maybe we can welcome the mystery. Welcome those contradictions in yourself. The sum of all those pieces make you YOU. #10 My office is a She Shed Yes, I said she shed. I’ll put a photo in the blog post for this episode so you can see it too. It’s 120 sf, filled with windows and I look over the farm fields, with the trees in my backyard. It’s my own little oasis. I am so fortunate to work in this gorgeous little She Shed. Leave me a comment – would you love a she shed too? So that’s my 10 things Let me repeat them for you as we wrap up. I’m an introvert I’m a homebody I’m an overachiever. South Antarctica North Elsa Yukon I meditate every day Every day I pull an angel card I struggle with narrowing down my goals I’m an engineer My office is a she shed Hey, I so appreciate that you’re here and that you’re part of my community. Episode 83: Are You Making It Difficult? Hi friend and welcome to this episode I am so glad you’re here. You know what’s fun? Coaching, coaching is fun! I have some amazing clients and watching them grow and reach their goals is simply amazing. There was a post in a Facebook Group the other day and they asked this. Do you just ever randomly think "Gah damn I love what I do." We are doing some pretty amazing things… And my response was YES, every day…every single day. This is what I want for you too…I want you to love what you do. I want to help you create an amazing and fulfilling business filled with clients that you feel honored to work with. Today I want to help you discover where you might be making it way more difficult than it needs to be. You want clients, right? Maybe it’s your first free clients Maybe it’s your first paying clients Maybe you want to be fully booked. What if it was easier than you think? How could that be true? Let me tell you a story, this happened years ago but it’s fresh in my memory I wanted to buy a Mazda Miata. You know a Mazda Miata – it’s a cute little convertible. And in fact, this is what I drive right now. I’ve had it for years – I just love it. Well, when I wanted to buy a car, I was ready I had done my research I had the money I knew what I wanted So, one sunny Sunday I went to the local car dealership. I went with my daughter. She was a teenager at the time And I was excited, this was going to be fun. Well, we stood in the show room, oohing and aahing looking at the cars. Having fun, then we wandered around the lot. And then we stood at the front door. I started to feel impatient… I wanted help and no one (not one salesperson) had even looked my way. It had been more than half an hour. Well so I took matters into my own hands thought – there must be a mistake. I went into the show room again. Sure, enough there were salespeople there, drinking coffee and chatting amongst themselves. I spoke to the receptionist and said I wanted some help. She said…for sure…we’ll get someone to help you. 15 minutes later…still not one person had come to greet me. Now remember…I had something I wanted, and I wanted help. I knew that person could help me. I was prepared. I had the money ready to go. But in the better part of an hour not one person helped me. Not one even looked at me So, what did I do? I walked out Later that week I went to another dealership and bought the car. I’ve never been back to that dealership. Ever. And since then, I’ve bought two more cars and have all of our cars serviced at the dealership. That dealer threw away over $100k because they made it so difficult for me to do business with them. So, my questions for you Is it possible you are you putting up barriers? Where do you make it difficult for your clients? Where are you delaying your dream? This week I highly recommend you have an honest look at where you might be making it difficult for your dream clients to find you and work with you. What can you learn from my story about the car dealership? Use these questions as a guide. 1. Do they know you are a coach? Or do they have to scroll through four pages of your social feed to find that you became a coach three months ago. 2. Do they know you can help them? Or are you the world’s best kept secret? They won’t take time to guess and sleuth around to find out if maybe you can help them. It needs to be up front. Don’t fuss about the exact perfect wording. If you are a coach and you can help people lead a better more fulfilling life, say it. Clear and to the point is always better than complicated and fancy. How do I help you? I help coaches get clarity and create confidence, so they sign clients with ease. See what I mean – clear and to the point. 3. Do you make it hard to find you? Do you shy away from social media? Never tell anyone what you do? It’s not that you need a complicated website with a freebie and a sales funnel. In fact, you don’t even need a website to get started. You could just start have an Instagram account that you send everyone to when they are curious. 4. Is it easy to book a consult / sample session? Do they have to email or DM you and then spend time trying to find a day/time that’s convenient. Or is it easy for them to book a time on your online scheduler. Put a link to your online scheduler on your IG profile. 5. Do you see them? Are you so busy doing everything else that you don’t even recognize someone who could benefit from your help? 6. Do you greet them? Like a friendly human…. 7. Do you help them? It can be as simple as inviting them in–" hey I could help you with that." Or "that’s what I do as a coach let me know if you’d like to chat. " Or you could post helpful tips or share part of your own story. You could write and post on Medium. You could be a helpful human when you meet people during the regular course of your day. Maybe you can help them in advance….so of course they want to reach out for more help. You’ve shown how much value you bring. It’s never up to our clients to do the work to find us. Nor is it up to them to play Sherlock Holmes as they try to find help. If another coach makes it easy…guess where that potential client will go for help. It’s up to you– when you take radical responsibility you will find it is so much easier to create amazing clients. This is the best news. Knowing that it’s up to you. If you’ve had a close look and realized, it’s actually you who are making it difficult for potential clients to work with you Then great – you can change, and it won’t take long for you to see the benefit. Your path to success looks like this: Know who you are and how you can help (YOU – authentically) Start helping (notice it’s start helping before you go out and meet people) (SERVE) Connect with people, build relationship (CONNECT) Invite them into your world and invite them to work with you. (INVITE) Excellent – now I want to hear from you. What did you learn from this episode? Post a screen shot of this episode and tag me @candymotzek. Tell me what you learned and what you’ve changed to make it easier and more fun for your potential clients to find you and get your help. Before we go, I’d love to invite you to my free Monday Coaching and Conversation with Candy. I open a zoom room for everyone who registers. I usually teach on a topic, answer questions and coach. I’ll put the sign-up link in the episode notes I’d love to see you there. And if you want even more help, maybe you’ve had enough of trying to figure it all out on your own or taking hours and hours piecing together a solution by watching YouTube videos. Then we should talk about how we can work together. Click the link in the episode notes to find out how to apply to work with me. I’ll be back to talk with you next week. Hey Friends, How are you? I’m so glad you’re here and welcome to this episode. This one is a slightly different format…. I want to get you thinking in a way that will help you grow as a coach, and of course grow your business. I honestly can’t believe that we’re already at Episode 24, it seems like just a couple of weeks ago that I chose the name “She Coaches Coaches” and that the team helped me with my intro, outro, music and all the details with starting a new podcast. Isn’t it odd how you can go from something completely new, feeling all uncomfortable and like you’re stretching and then all of a sudden you turn around and that “new thing” that was all uncomfortable…is suddenly your new normal? I’ve got a big, long list of topics to talk about on this podcast. I’ve found I’m a great idea generator…the more ideas I have, the more I come up with. But here’s the best idea… and today I want to let you in on a little secret. One thing that you’re going to begin hearing soon is you’re going to hear from some of my clients…. ooooo I am really excited about this. I’m inviting some of my clients to guest on this podcast, I’m just getting all the details figured out and then soon, very soon, I’m going to start interviewing them. I’m doing this for a few reasons. First, and foremost, I love my clients and I’m committed to helping them grow and get fully booked– however they define it for themselves. By being a guest on this podcast they will get the chance to be heard by people who may want to hire them right?!?! It’s also, valuable for you because you’re going to hear from all kinds of different people. You’re going to find other voices that really resonate and help you in your journey. Finally, because it supports the growth of the coaching profession. I believe there are still huge numbers of people who have never heard of coaching and really have no idea how it can help them. So, interviewing, having casual conversations with more coaches is a great way to help more people learn about coaching….and I think just about everyone can benefit from having a coach. Ok, I wanted to give you a sneak peek into something new that coming….so now with that being said, let’s dive into today’s episode. I have a simple question for you: What's the impact of coaching? More specifically, what's the impact of coaching with you? If you can, this is the perfect time for you to pause this audio. Grab your journal and right down some answers. When I took my coach training, this type of question has a special name, it’s something that we would call an inquiry. What that means is a question that has more than one answer, and the more you think about it, the more there is to it. Answering this inquiry will help you to understand how you help others. And if you’re wondering, why is this question important? Why are you asking me this Candy? What does this have to do with me becoming a coach or attracting coaching clients? I’ll tell you. When you understand, deeply understand, how coaching helps people change their life and the ripple effect of the impact that coaching has on our world you will be sold. You’ll feel so proud and empowered that you are part of this. And that you can support people to transform their lives. You help them understand why they aren’t getting the results they want. Why they’re having troubles and how to change. Permanently. Yes, that’s right coaching changes lives for the better and forever. Then when you understand the impact, it’s going to be so much easier for you to create clients and fill your calendar. You’re going to feel so engaged and passionate you’ll eagerly share and tell people about coaching and how they can work with you. Now I’m going to share some examples with you, but this is even more effective when it’s thought work that you do for yourself. You’ll get a glimpse of it through my examples, but when you look at your own experiences, you’re going to get it at a much deeper level. Here’s that question again…. What is the impact of coaching with you? Now, if you’re stuck answering the question, let me get you started. Let’s approach this in two different ways: First, we’ll look at it from your personal viewpoint and second from the viewpoint of the clients results. Let’s begin with YOUR personal viewpoint Tell me about your life, and how all your skills, passion and life experiences can support your clients. What lessons have you learned that will help them? Talk to me about how coaching has changed your life? Who have you become because you’ve grown? Think of all the things that are now possible for you, that you might never have been able to imagine in the past. Hey if you want to be a coach and haven’t experienced coaching for yourself now’s the time. Being a coach means we’ve signed up for our own growth too. So it’s time to find yourself a coach, either one on one or a group coach and do your own self coaching too. Here’s a quick example from my life. Before I became a coach, I was a stressed-out corporate leader. I suffered from burnout, and during my recovery and because of coaching, I learned a lot. I have skills and approaches that can help others learn how to become more resilient and, in some cases, avoid burnout entirely. That’s a big deal, and the reason I can have that impact is because of my personal experiences Now let’s move on to your client’s viewpoint and their results Think about the people you help, what’s the ripple effect in their life? Don’t just stop at the first level. After you come up with one answer…dig a little deeper. Each client that you work will be impacted AND so will everyone else in their life. Here are three examples of the impact coaching could have on a client: Example 1: The first, Will their relationships at home benefit? Do they have a new perspective so maybe they’re a little less rushed, maybe they appreciate themselves more and as a result are less harsh, or have they learned how to set boundaries and now they say no, they’ve stopped all the people pleasing? Digging a little deeper on just one of these benefits…, why does it matter that they feel less rushed…well their stress level is way down, and they feel good. Digging deeper on appreciating themselves more – they feel at home in themselves, and they’re showing their children what’s possible for them too. Example 2: My second example, Are they happier at work and as a result are, they a better supervisor? Maybe their team has jelled in a new way, so everyone is feeling appreciated. When you dig deeper here…there’s even more…a team that’s jelled has more fun together and achieves more too, they reach their business goals and feel supported at work and instead of dreading Mondays, they whistle as they walk into the office. What’s the ripple effect of that???? The more I think about it, the more I find. Someone who doesn’t dread Mondays has more fun on the weekend with friends and they probably also feel more refreshed too. When you feel close to your team and one of them has a challenge, maybe a family member is sick, you support each other you have community and don’t feel so alone in the world. Example 3: The third example. What about their health, do they have a new morning routine, so they start the day with a bit of exercise, and they wake up refreshed? Have they shared with you that they don’t remember the last time they had the flu and now they feel energized and alive? What’s the impact of having more energy…well they have more life in their life? More energy to enjoy their life…that’s priceless. I could go on and on about this one too, but I think you get the idea. So, in a nutshell here’s how to get the most value out of this question. Ask yourself the question. What is the impact of coaching with you? Answer it. For each answer…go a little deeper…ask and what’s the result of that or why is that important? If you don’t have time right now, set aside some time to think about this inquiry and even better come back and respond to the question more than once. Hey, If you’re listening to these episodes and you’re a new coach, I can help you. Maybe you want to be a coach or you’re new and you’re not quite sure where to start or exactly what to do next. You might be feeling overwhelmed stuck or confused about how to start getting your first (or your next) clients. If you’re thinking of hiring a coach, we should chat. Let’s see if it’s time for us to work together. There’s a link in the episode notes about how to schedule a consult with me. I’d love to hear from you. Oh, and one more thing before you leave! Understand why embracing a larger mission and how it can positively impact one's coaching business. Our conversation also focuses on starting out on LinkedIn as a new coach, creating a compelling profile that reflects one's mission, and building relationships through engaging content and conversations. Highlights: LinkedIn is distinct from other social media platforms, offering various features and opportunities. Having a mission in business can be empowering and make a positive difference. Embracing and openly expressing one's mission is more effective than keeping it a secret. Coaches often have hidden missions and can benefit from utilizing LinkedIn to amplify their impact. Starting early on LinkedIn and engaging in conversations can lay a strong foundation for future business growth. It’s important to write a compelling profile that highlights one's mission and evokes emotion is crucial. Rather than focusing on website creation and branding initially, coaches could prioritize building relationships and having conversations on LinkedIn. Creating a body of work through articles, case studies, and featured sections on LinkedIn helps showcase expertise. Interacting with commenters and likers on posts is essential for building relationships and fostering deeper conversations. LinkedIn conversations may take longer than face-to-face conversations, but understanding the platform's dynamics can lead to better outcomes and stronger connections. 3 Things You Need To Know About Confidence Ep: 066 Hello friends, welcome to this episode of She Coaches Coaches. This is the third episode in my mini-series about confidence. Last time we spoke about the lies we tell ourselves that hold us back. This time I’ve got 3 things you need to know about building your confidence. Why do we need and want confidence anyway…well because it feels good, empowered, and like we can accomplish anything we set our minds to? Here’s your powerful thought for today. A lack of confidence does not mean you’re not ready. Last episode I reminded you “you are far more capable than you know” -and this week I’m offering this thought “a lack of confidence doesn’t mean I’m not ready” If you like these encouraging thoughts well, I’ve got a little treat for you. When you sign up for my FREE Coaches Online Business Academy. (This is the free vault where I gift you all kinds of excellent resources that you can dive in and use today.) Now I’ve, added some fun Free screensaver graphics too using these powerful and inspiring thoughts that you can download and use them for your phone’s home screen. I find this a super helpful way to remind myself what thoughts I’m practicing Because when I do I think better so that I feel better, more empowered and then it’s so much easier to be effective and make progress. I’ll put the link to sign up in the show notes. Then you can sign up and download the graphics right away. The three things you need to know about confidence. The first, it rises and falls like every emotion Sounds simple right? Remember the lie I spoke about in the last episode, that we wish we could become confident and stay there FOREVER…when in fact confidence is an emotion. We are able to shape our emotions. That’s right, emotions don’t just happen to us. We can create them with our thoughts, and we can learn to evoke the physical sensation of them in our body. When I think of emotion I think of waves on the ocean. Sometimes they are a little ripple and sometimes they are big waves. But they are always dynamic, and always in motion. They come and they go, they change they rise and fall. We think thousands and thousands of thoughts each and every day. Now most of those thoughts are on automatic pilot…and knowing this means we can begin to be aware of how we’re thinking and how we feel when we think those automatic habit thoughts. If you want a reminder, go back to some of my earlier episodes for a brief overview. I put the links in the episode notes The second, you can create confidence on purpose (that’s the 5C Confidence Formula) Remember, it’s variable – sometimes we have it sometimes we don’t. Maybe it’s easy for you to feel confident in one area of your life, but not another. Do you feel confident as a new parent? Nope I bet you didn’t when you brought that new baby home for the first time. You probably felt completely out of your element. I remember bringing my son home from the hospital after he was born and I just looked at him and thought oh my god, what am I supposed to do with you. How will I ever do this? Then with my second – it was a breeze. I knew how to tote that little baby around…so easy, relaxed. It was a completely different experience. To experience confidence, we have to be willing to feel like crap – discomfort, fear, vulnerable. Feeling like crap is part of the process. You don’t become confident without needing to be courageous. And I’m not talking about courageous with a capital C, it can be a small brave step. Just the next step…not a big leap. My guess is every time you try something new, you don’t feel very confident. Well, I’m the same way. But now that I know I can create confidence using thought work and coaching (and the 5C approach I’m going to describe in the next episode) it feels so much more doable really so much more manageable. Because I know I have the tools to create it and so will you. It’s all about practice…and putting the steps into action A lack of confidence does not mean I’m not ready This is not a linear path, you may end today feeling capable and wake up tomorrow feeling “meh” – you will move between all the levels throughout the day…. that’s normal Confidence is not arrogance. Believe in yourself…not at the expense of others, this is not a competition. You can’t pretend your way to confident, but you can… You can think yourself to confidence You can feel yourself to confidence You can love yourself to confidence You think your way by choosing thoughts that feel aligned and powerful and then practicing them, integrating them, so they become new engrained habit thoughts. You can feel your way to confidence because your feelings flow from your thoughts. You can love your way to confidence. And this is part of my approach that’s a bit different than some of the heavy alpha macho style. Learning to love and trust yourself, to have your own back and make a promise to yourself that you won’t be mean to yourself when you are learning. When you treat yourself this way you will be way more likely to be motivated to try and try again…. So that’s it for today – three things you need to know about confidence: Confidence rises and falls just like every other emotion. You can create confidence on purpose A lack of confidence does not mean you’re not ready I’m looking forward to sharing my 5C confidence formula with you in the next episode and it’s a game changer. So, if you’re listening as these episodes drop make sure to subscribe. Episode 78: Make Friends With Fear Today. We're going to talk about how to make friends with fear. Yeah. A different kind of conversation. I know. And the reason that I want to talk about this is that I still know how much we all struggle with fear often on, you know, depending on where I'm at with my business or what's going on in the world. I struggle with fear, and I know you do too. Let's dive right in. Let's start this thing about what is fear. Do you notice how we assume that fear has control over us? And then we do everything in our power to avoid feeling scared and everything in our power to do anything that might make us feel scared. And so, a lot of times you might want to avoid this conversation, avoid the topic entirely, but you guys are courageous. I know you can handle this. You might get busy. You might procrastinate. You might get busy. You might work on making something perfect so you never have to release it. You may want to get those words just right before you say them. If you want to have a conversation with somebody, you might just hesitate. Fear shows up in a lot of different ways. In the previous episode, I talked about the five faces of fear. I highly recommend you go and have a listen to that one, too. We allow it to hold us back from helping the people we are meant to help and helping ourselves to live the life that we are meant to live. When I think of fear, there are three things that I realized about how to make friends with fear. And even if you don't want to make friends with fear, how about if we just learn to tolerate fear? Instead of spending a whole bunch of time resisting and avoiding and trying to hold it at arm's length, let's do what we can. Fear is Normal The first thing fear is completely normal. It's an emotion. We experience emotions. When we go back to why do we have that emotion? Why do we experience fear? It's because of a chemical reaction. It's because of evolution and our body has evolved to take care of us. We often will experience one of the Four Fs fight, flight, fun, or freeze. Those are all stress responses, but they often show up when we're experiencing fear, when we're doing something or anticipating, or seeing something that we think is dangerous. We get it, our mind experiences, fear, and it thinks that we're in danger. What's really going on? It's normal that you want to resist. It's normal that you want to avoid feeling fear because it means that you're in danger and your body and your mind is just trying to help you out. Now, for most of us, we don't really have that much danger in our lives. We're not really concerned about being physically hurt. We're not really concerned about getting eaten by a lion or attacked by a grizzly bear. Some of us do have true danger in our life. And in this case, your fear is a helpful thing, helping you to be alert and helping you to move to safety. But for many of us and many of the things in our life, it is not a real physical danger. So, when we think first, that fear is normal, that it's a reaction of your mind and body that's going to help you. You will feel fear when you try something new The second is that we're always going to experience fear. Anytime we try something new. And again, it's for the same reason we think something's wrongs going to happen. We've never tried it before. It's new, it's unknown. Again, totally natural that our body and mind react, we feel scared. And we resist and in the resisting of the fear, we allow it to have power over us. But think about what your life has been up until now. You've tried new things. You know how to walk. You didn't know how to walk when you were born. You probably know how to cook dinner. Bet. You didn't know how to do that. When you were a little one, you probably graduated from high school or university. You probably went on a first date with somebody, every one of those new things, you probably felt some fear at the start. It may have been coupled with excitement and excitement and fear have a real similar feeling in your body. Some of us are excited about being excited and so it makes it easier to overcome. Some of us interpret that feeling as fear and really feel the fear. Maybe you had to have an uncomfortable conversation with your boss. We have all done things for the first time before. It's a weird trick. Our mind likes to do it wants us to forget that we have done things that were scary before. And now they're part of your normal everyday life. It's normal to feel afraid when you're trying something new. And then we forget that we used to be afraid of that thing. Maybe you were scared when you had your first class at university. And then after a couple of weeks, it was no big deal. You just go in the class, you sit down, you sit close to some people that you've met and that's just the way you are. That's the way life is. And you completely forgot how scared you were at the start. That's one of those things that fear likes to do with us. It likes to play that little mind game. We forget that we have done things that are scary. We forget we are courageous beings. Remember those things that were first, we were scared at first. And we did them. We showed up that is courage in action. Fear is normal. It is a normal reaction. And fear is normal when we're trying something new. The third thing, we will forget And the third thing is that we forget, we forget that we were scared. We forget that we were nervous. We forget that we were worried, all those things, right? The first is for you to remember that this is a reaction to a situation either imagined or a real situation, but it's still a reaction. It's not who you are. It is a reaction you are having; you are not fear. You are an individual and you are experiencing a feeling of fear. Instead of internalizing and resisting, you can keep the power of fear, much lower and start to get a little bit friendly with it. When you realize that it's not who you are, that it is a passing thing. And that more than likely, you've had courage in the past and you have forgotten about it. Make Friends With Fear Step 1 Normalize It Now let's very briefly about how to make friends with fear. The first thing is that you can do is normalize it. You say, oh, oh right. You know that this is a new thing. No wonder, I'm feeling nervous. It's completely normal for me to feel nervous per perfect example me with this podcast. I wanted to do a podcast for years, and then it took me forever to get over that nervousness. Well, now we're on Episode 78. Can you believe it? 78? It's just the thing that I do. I've made friends with that fear. I moved forward anyway, and I know you can too, so you could tell yourself, oh right. You know what? This is normal. It's just my body and mind trying to keep me safe. Step one, to make friends with fear, normalize it, make it logical. You know why this reaction is happening. Your body and your mind are trying to keep you safe. Step Two Separate YOU from the emotion Step number two, to make friends with fear is separate. It separates you from the fear. And so, what I'm saying by that is I am experiencing fear. I'm feeling fear, but I am not my fear. That is the powerful second step is reminding yourself. I am not my fear. This is just a reaction that is happening because of something new, something that I haven't done before, something that means a lot to me that I'm learning how to do. Step Three Focus on The Next Small Step And finally, step number three, focus on micro-steps. We've all got that dream, that goal. And when we look forward so far into the future, sometimes we get scared. So, let's focus on the little steps. Maybe your goal is to start a coaching practice. Maybe your goal is to sign your first five paying coaching clients. Maybe your goal is who knows what to be a fully booked six-figure coach. Instead of always thinking in the granular place of what it's going to be like a year from now, when you're a fully booked coach and you spend all that time, imagining all the scary things you're going to have to do between now and the next year, take it down, break it down into small, itty-bitty steps. Micro-steps even. Instead of saying, oh my gosh, I'm here. And I have so far to go break it down into the small steps. What is one little thing you could do? What's that next little thing you can do. And, then you'll find that if you take those steps small enough, they're not nearly as terrifying instead of going so far out of your comfort zone, you're only just pressing the edge of your comfort zone. And those little steps can be done quick as a wink, just like that done. Five minutes, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, one minute, sometimes as fast as pressing send on that email, sometimes it might only even be a couple of seconds, right? You take it, you break it down into the small steps, the manageable micro-steps. Then when you've done that thing yourself, a pat on the back say, yeah, I did it. Take satisfaction, even delight in checking that item off your list. If you keep doing those little micro-steps before, you know it, you're going to be so far down the path, you're going to be so far closer to that goal. And because you were just pressing on the edge of your comfort zone, instead of way over taking the giant leap, you've managed fear. You've made friends with the small little steps instead of getting stuck. And you're going to have forgotten about how scared you were at the beginning. Remember the three characteristics of fear, the first fear is normal, and we're going to experience it. Number two, we will always experience it and we will give it way more power when we resist it. The third is we forget. We forget that there are things that we do today that are no big deal that used to make us feel scared. And then to make friends with fear, remind yourself, fear is normal as part of the human condition. This is just my mind and my body acting up, trying to keep me safe. The second step to make friends with fear is separate you from your fear, the third to make friends with fear is take tiny little actions that move you relentlessly forward. When you're feeling nervous, you're going to just keep going to the next tiny action and the next tiny action. Finally, in all of this, remember to be proud of yourself, remember to acknowledge your own accomplishments, remember to celebrate your wins. You might look at it and say, Hey, look at this. I go to the gym four times a week now. And I used to be scared to walk in the front door. Now I walk in the door like it's no big deal. I know the equipment. I know the people have a smile on my fac. In other words, give yourself credit for all that stuff you have already done. Remind yourself of all those things that you used to be scared of, that you have overcome, that you have for remind yourself when you do that, you're going to remember that you are courageous and that you are so much more capable than you give yourself credit for. I'm so glad you're here. And I hope you take this episode and apply it in your life. I've got one more little thing. Do you know what tall poppy syndrome is? It’s what happens to the tall poppy, the one that grows and stands head and shoulders above the others in the field. It gets chopped down for standing out! It’s a message many of us internalized when we were younger. Do you know the answer to that question the teacher asked in class? Well, don’t put your hand up in case you get it wrong and everyone laughs at you. Were you excited to volunteer for that interesting program? Well, don’t volunteer because you might be judged harshly. Did you experience this too? Do you still hold yourself back from standing out a little too brightly? Do you stay quiet instead of voicing an unpopular opinion? What would be possible if you stood out and spoke up? You are the only one of you who will ever exist. You are unique and incredibly special. You were placed on this earth for a reason. And we need to see more and hear more from you. Your opinions, experiences skills and gifts are important. So, speak up and show up. As you grow your coaching business you might find you get nervous when it’s time to go to a networking event or when you want to invite a potential client to a Sample Session. Instead of thinking about yourself and how nervous you are, try instead to shift your focus to how much you can help that other person. Think of the positive impact coaching will have on their life. When you shift your focus in this way you may find you don’t feel so nervous!
Ask An Expert: Your Dog is a Healer with Michael Overlie Ep-098 Episode Description Join me as I speak with Michael Overlie an Energy Healer, Canine-Partnered Energy Coach, Author, and lifelong dog fanatic. He has had a gift of connecting with animals since he was a small child. Dogs have been with him most of his life, giving him gifts and teaching him lessons. His greatest breakthrough was after the death of his brother. While grieving this loss, he was fully awakened to his own potential and the gifts our animals bring to our lives. Now he helps other men awaken to the gifts available to them from their dogs. He has dedicated himself to assisting men and their dogs discover their path to living a life of purpose, being extraordinary. Michael describes his approach below Guys are tough. Guys are tough to crack. They, they, you know, we're, we're macho and we're tough and we can do everything on our own. So just getting guys to even think about doing something like this has been quite a trick, but every person different. So understanding that gives me a little bit of an edge. Every animal is different understanding that gives me a little bit of an edge, getting that person to understand that is where you just go right. It opens a flood gates. So the, the way we get in the way we get in to help these guys to get underneath that armor, you know, across the drawbridge, whatever you wanna call it is the dog. The dog is the key to the whole thing. Let me explain guys are worried to death about being seen as weak or vulnerable or you know, not perfect or unable to do some, you know, we're supposed to be these, you know, all encompassing. I can do anything no matter what creatures, and it's just not true, but we, we think we have to be that way. We're allowing ourselves to go home at the end of the day, after having a crappy day with Jim and John and Ed, we can go home and just around our dog, we can open ourselves up a lit, just a tiny bit more. We can slow down, be vulnerable. You know, science shows some of the physical effects of, of, of being with an animal dog, even a cat cortisol levels, drop respiratory rate drops, heart rate drops, blood pressure drops that discharges our nervous system of just a little bit. So we can just, some, some of us like me, I talk to my dog, I tell her what's going on. We can't do that with our partners, our, you know, our, our spouses, our parents our kids, we, we just don't allow ourselves to do that, but we do with the dogs. So using the dog as a key to open that gate..... Listen to this episode to learn more about Michael's approach. Hey Friends, How are you today? I’m so excited you’re here. Where I am, spring is here. The daffodils are up, the birds are singing and building nests. In fact, the first set of finches have built nests in the birdhouses hanging on my she shed and I expect the hear the chirping of the new flock in a week or two. Spring is my favorite season, without a doubt. The air changes and it’s just fresh. I planted the primroses in my window boxes. If you follow me on IG you’ll have seen some photos that I posted in the past few days. This burst of colour is….just everything. It makes me so happy to see. Because it’s spring, it reminded me of this blog post I wrote a couple of years ago and I wanted to update it and share it with you today. Today, let's talk about a new way to think about your business. A way that will help you through the tough times, when you’re working like crazy, but it feels like you’re not growing fast enough or you’re worried “it’s not working”. It’s going to help you manage your self-doubts and feel better. Building a business is tough! It’s the fast track to personal growth and it’s so easy to get impatient! All over social media, you see coaches saying they are earning "big money" and they did it fast. How many claims do you see to six figures in 60 days” or “I’ve been a coach for 3 months and I’m fully booked.” Well on social I would say, don’t believe everything you see. We don’t know that they’ve been working at this quietly for years and have finally got some momentum. Or that they’ve tried two other businesses and failed, but they are trying again and this time it’s working. When the comparison queen comes along and you see these posts, she might whisper in your ear. “So how come it’s so difficult for you?” “There must be something wrong with you. They can do it and you can’t.” That voice of the mean girl, the voice of self-doubt in your mind can talk you into doubting yourself. Do you feel alone and wonder if you missed the magic step? I hear this a lot and you are not alone in this feeling. If you’re starting out, and really any time at all that you’re growing your coaching business, it helps to think of your business in the right way. How you think and how you feel is in your control. Mindset makes all the difference between giving up and success. You are in control; you’ve got a choice. And this choice is empowering. You get to decide, you can think of your business like a sport fishing trip, or you can think of it as a garden. If you treat your business like a sport fishing expedition, you’re after a big catch. You plan, get your gear together, jump in the boat and head out to the ocean. The waves might be small, or they might be big and choppy. Are you prepared for the weather? And it’s easy to get wet and sometimes even seasick. When you think you’re in the right spot, you get your fishing rod ready to go. Look at the conditions and hook up the lures. Then you cast the line and wait a little bit. You wonder, do I have the right bait? Am I iin the right spot? What if there are no fish here? It’s easy to get frustrated. Depending on your experience you might have to wait a long time. Lots of times you’ll return to port empty-handed. But sometimes, you catch that big fish! You reel it in. Celebrate, clean it, and take it back home. It makes an awesome fnher way, another metaphor that I like to use for building a sustainable, profitable coaching practice that gives you long term income where you can be fully booked with all the clients you want. The approach I recommend is to build your business as if you are planning, cultivating and growing a vegetable garden. For those of you who are gardeners, you’ll have some experience with this. First, you turn the soil over, you add compost and perhaps some fertilizer, make sure everything is in good order. You make sure it’s a healthy nutrient-rich base. Then you take the first of a few trips to the store and choose excellent seeds (I like the top quality organic ones), and take time to plan your garden. You consider, where will you plant seeds now and where will you leave space to plant later? As you plan you will decide what to plant. If the weather is cool, you will choose crops that do well at this time of the year. For me, I’m getting ready to plant my lettuce, spinach and peas because it’s still cool and this is when they thrive. More than likely you’ll plant a variety. Some veggies grow better close to each other, right? Peas like to be planted close to carrots, but they hate being close to onions…so it pays to plan well. Once you’re organized, you seed a portion of the garden. Then you wait….you water and make sure the environment is right. If it’s cold, you might put something over top to keep the soil and seeds warm. Or you might even start your seeds indoors if the nights are too cold and the conditions too harsh. Then you wait some more. This is the tough part, and this waiting is the tough part for your business too. The waiting time, the time when our patience will pay off. We’re not sitting back twiddling our thumbs and doing nothing. Not at all, we’re managing our minds, we’re putting in consistent effort. Maybe we’re creating value, offering free training, free coaching, posting on social media to attract your best clients or even being a guest on a podcast like some of my coaching clients have. Many talented coaches give up in this waiting time. I bolded this for emphasis. So I’m going to say it again. This waiting time is when many talented coached just give up. We expect it to be fast, we’re used to taking a pill to deal with a headache and the pain is gone in 10 minutes. We’re used to quick fixes. Microwave meals. But remember in the natural world things “take time” and that’s not a problem, it’s part of our natural cycle. You know some seeds take a couple of days to sprout…others take weeks. When I look on the back of the seed packages it tells me cucumber seeds sprout in 3 days, lettuce seeds sprout in 7-15 days…but carrots take 2 to 3 weeks. When you’re gardening you have no problem keeping the faith. You don’t give up after a few days, you stick with it. Because you know they WILL sprout. This is just like your business…sometimes you’ve got to do the work, even sweat a bit and strain your muscles….and have the patience that you’re on the right path. You don’t give up after 24 hours with a newly planted garden right? So don’t give up prematurely on your coaching business either. After you’ve put in the time effort, care and attention…. Finally, a little sprout comes up!!! Woohoo, you’re excited. This is like when you get your first client. If you’re like the fisherman (or woman) you return to shore, settle down and enjoy your feast. Then no wonder you have to start all over again before the next amazing client comes your way. You’re on shore…not in your boat. If you treat your business like a garden think like a gardener. What do you with those tender little seedlings….you nurture them, treat them well. You watch them, sprinkle them with water, check that there’s no slugs coming to eat them in the middle of the night. And you certainly don’t pull them out before they have a chance to mature right? You do thin the seeds, give them some space and allow them time to grow. Nurture your clients and your relationships the same way. These first clients and all clients are important! Here’s where you are learning and fine-tuning your coaching skills. You don’t want to over-water or let the bugs of your self-doubts destroy them. After a while, your little sprouts begin to mature. As you harvest the veggies you’ve grown, make sure to re-seed before your harvest is completely mature and your garden is empty. A good vegetable garden will provide you with awesome produce for a long time. The hardest time, when you have to practice the most patience is the first couple of weeks. When nothing is growing in our business we worry and fuss. You might even let your inner critic run wild and say "OMG I’m going to be a failure this is never going to work. I’m never going to be a success". Have patience ( for your business this means to practice believing in yourself and in the power of coaching). Plant your seeds (tell people about coaching and what you’re doing). Water the seeds ( as a coach, help people to understand how coaching can help them and the problems can you help them solve). Then when the first sprout comes up (and you get your first few clients, coach them well, hone your skills, treat your customers like the gold they are) and As the harvest comes in, make sure to plant some more seeds, (coaches: keep marketing your business and ask for referrals, keep relationships fresh). So you get to decide….do you want the feast, famine and frustration of sport fishing or would you prefer to grow a profitable sustainable business like a gardener? Your mindset is everything here and how you choose to grow your business can empower or disempower you. Remember, all successful entrepreneurs were beginners at one time too. They didn’t start out as experts. But they cultivated, planted, tended, nurtured and harvested and you can too. Do You Secretly Believe No One Will Pay For Coaching? Ep128 Hi, I’m so glad you’re here. This is another of the episodes I recorded in Mexico. As I plan this episode, I’m sitting out here on the deck admiring the view. The day is heating up and I’m glad for a slice of shade as I write this episode. Now here's the episode, Do you secretly believe that no one will buy coaching from you? That no one will ever want to pay you for coaching. Oh don’t worry if you’ve been harboring that sneaky little thought – you’re not alone and that’s why I’m recording this one for you. The clients you are looking for already exist. And in fact they are already looking for help. They might be looking on google, on social media, on Amazon, asking a friend but they're searching. And many of them don’t know what to do next, they might even be at their wits’ end. People either want more of something or less of something They’ve already spent time and energy trying their best to get a specific result. Not only are they looking for help, but they also want to solve their problem, badly. So badly many are willing to do something about it, take action and spend money for a solution. And these are the people who could easily be your clients. If you’ve got a problem, it’s only natural you want a solution. Sometimes you don’t know what the solution even is…and in many cases coaching could be that solution Let’s break this down into four criteria: These people already exist and they're going about their day-to-day life They want something different. They have an issue they want to solve. They're already looking for how to solve it. They're ready to invest, time energy and money, to get what they want. It’s only natural that they want to pay for a solution. If they’ve done what they can and their desire is strong enough, they’ll be more than willing to pay for that solution. If any of the four criteria are missing they are not a match to work with you. Of course, we know they exist – so the first one’s a gimme. But how often do you really think about this…really know that your clients, and in fact more potential clients than you could ever need or desire are already going about their daily business right now. We all have challenges; we want something different. No matter how great your life is at the moment there are other things you would like. Maybe you’ve got a beautiful home and tons of friends but you haven’t met the love of your life or you want a healthy savings account. Life can be great and we are always looking for more even in our current state of satisfaction. Anytime you’ve got an issue that you want resolved or you want to improve something in your life you’re going to be primed to look for help. Maybe it’s casually keeping an eye open, maybe it’s asking your friends, maybe it’s scrolling on social. Now that fourth criteria is the key. They have something they want, they are looking for help (and you are the coach that can help them) and they are willing to pay for the help. Some people want help, but they still want to try it on their own. Some want help but they’re not yet ready to do the work, they’re still thinking/planning/dreaming. Others really can’t afford your help right now, but maybe they will save up for the future. Others want help but they don’t have enough motivation to hire you….maybe they’re not ready yet or even they don’t know you can help them. In some cases, it’s a matter of time, so that person may be in your circle of influence already…but they’re just not quite ready yet to reach out and book a consult or they might not even remember that you’re a coach and that you can help them. What to do you do? You’re ready to create clients…well they need to know you’re a coach. That might seem obvious, but just because you mentioned it casually to a couple of people one time, or posted it once on social media, or sent one note to a colleague doesn’t mean they read it and understood it. You offer a service, a solution, and there’s a price, so it’s completely normal that people want to pay you for it. And it’s completely normal for you to offer it and to invite people to work with you so it’s time to stop holding yourself back from inviting them. If you get hung up mistakenly thinking that “people don’t want to pay for coaching” – I’d like to suggest you somehow think coaching is different that any service or product. But it’s not Listen to these examples. I want to get over an injury. Of course, I pay to go to a physiotherapist and do the recovery exercises. I want to feel pampered/luxurious. So it’s a no brainer for me to go to the spa for a facial or pedicure. I want to stay healthy and enjoy my life. Makes sense that I buy organic food. I want to feel excited about life or finally get over imposter syndrome. So naturally, I pay for life coaching. So, remember sometimes: - they aren’t willing yet, -or they aren’t willing because they don’t know you exist, -or they aren’t yet willing because they don’t know what coaching is. -or they aren’t willing because they don’t know that your coaching can help them get what they want fast. Solve those four challenges and signing clients will be easier Remember it’s normal to pay for help and coaching helps. All right that’s it for today!
