Hello peeps. I really enjoyed making this lace scarf. It took me longer to knit up than what I'd expected - but am happy with the finished product and will definitely be making more! I haven't tried knitting lace before and wanted to start out with something simple and this pattern definitely fit the bill! Image from Pinterest. The pattern is located HERE at the Ravelry site and is a free pattern. My finished scarf It's called One Row Lace Scarf. The yarn is a fine hand dyed silk blend which recommended using size 6 needles so that's what I used. It drapes beautifully. The next scarf I make I will use larger needles so that it will look more like the image from Pinterest. K= knit K2tog= knit 2 stitches together YO= Yarn over Sts= stitches Cast on 24 sts (or any number of stitches dividable with 4). Knit 2 rows Knit pattern row: K4, (YO, K2tog, K2) repeat between ( ) 5 times. Repeat the pattern row until your scarf is at desired length. Knit 1 row. Cast off loosely. Please share if you make a scarf using this pattern. I'm going to put another one on the needles real soon! Peace, Kay

On day 49 one of the comments was from memoriesforlifescrapbooks. She said "Fun idea! They'd be cute painted red too :)". So i decided to try that and make them red. The paint and vanish made them so thick i could not get a chainmaille ring around the middle any more. So I attached the earhook to the side.
Instead of other important things to do today... I made some slippers! I've seen similar slipper projects on blogs/websites over the last year, but finally got around to making some for myself. I traced my foot and drafted an "upper" pattern as you see: (Feel free to enlarge and use to draft your own custom pair - I'm a wide womens 8.5 and the paper is normal 8.5" X 11" ) Cut out 2 uppers and 2 soles in both the outer fabric and the lining fabric. For fabric, I reused some old shredded corduroy pants that needed to be thrown away weeks ago but I continued to wear until yesterday and an old cotton sheet (my twin sheet from before we were married!) To cushion the sole, cut some thin cotton batting (or a few layers of flannel or fleece, etc.) slightly smaller than the sole, as shown below: Sew outer and lining fabric along foot opening, then turn right side out: Then sew back seam closed and make a channel for elastic: Pin upper to sole (inside out). Allow upper to gather a bit at the toe and heel for a better fit. Sew, try on and adjust sizing, etc. I cut some bias tape from extra lining fabric and bound the seam to keep from fraying and make the slipper more durable. Turn right side out and embellish with bow, buttons, etc. (I still need to do this....) Here's a view from the bottom. It will be fun to have many different pairs in various colors and print combinations. I definitely want to make a pair with soft leather for the sole. I know this is going a little over board, BUT, it could be cool to have a basket of these in various sizes and colors by the front door (of some future house) for kids and guests to put on when they come over :)
Here's a few pictures from a 1947 southern California yearbook I picked up a while ago. Vintage yearbooks are great resources for hairstyling ideas, and the average girls fashion choices. I get a lot of inquiries about how to dress appropriately in vintage for school. Just because it's the past, doesn't mean people dressed in petticoats and feathered hats to study in. It seems every girl had a plaid skirt, collared blouse, and cardigan. And the socks! The pages are filled with cuffed white socks, with saddle shoes, canvas tennies, loafers, and even wedge sandals. The plaid jackets in the photo below seem to be early versions of a 49er, and I love how the boy cuffed his slacks up. As far as carrying around school supplies and books, if you want to keep the look vintage, look for a canvas or leather messenger bag, or backpack of the same material if you have a lot of textbooks. I know this post is right at the end of the school year, but there will be another, bigger one come fall! For now just gawk at the pretty hairstyles ;)
