This listing is for a downloadable PDF pattern to make the garment shown. This sassy tunic is a great pattern to try out a few techniques that you may not be familiar with: stripes, stranded knitting (fair isle) and steeking. The striping and fair isle patterns are super simple—worked in the round, and the unused colors are carried along the inside of the sweater. When you get to the armhole shaping, you have an option—to steek, or not to steek. I’ve included instructions for both, and even came up with a video tutorial to help make the steeking process seem easy! Finished Measurements 29¾ (33, 36¼, 39½, 42¾, 46, 49½)” / 75.5 (84, 92, 100.5, 108.5, 117, 125.5) cm bust circumference. Shown in: 33” / 84 cm size. Suggested Ease: 0–2” / 0–5 cm. The tribe has spoken.
When Natasha from Baah Yarns reached out to propose a collaboration, she had a very clear idea in mind about the type of design she wanted for her yarn, and the inspiration for it. When she mentioned the Alhambra and Moresque style, I was unbelievably intrigued by the theme: both Natasha and I have very sweet memories of Granada, and designing something inspired and recalling the beautiful Alhambra palace, with its colors and decorative motifs, was a challenge I was happy to face. Natasha created those mute and delicate colors and I coupled them with a stranded diamond inspired by the floral motifs of Alhambra’s internal ceilings and walls. The simple brioche stripes, alternated with garter sections, also recall decorative motifs from the Alhambra interiors. The stole is worked from the center out, starting from the provisional cast on at the middle. The first half of the stranded diamond is worked. Then, sts are picked up to work the rest of the half stole, which alternates garter and brioche sections, both shaped with centered increases and lateral decreases. The provisional cast on is undone and the other half is worked in the same way. The stranded diamond in the middle is worked in two colors, and requires a bit of attention as in many rows the same color is used for several sts, therefore requiring floats to be caught here and there. The original sample is huge, and requires a bit more than one skein for two out of three colors used. A shorter version can be worked using only 1 skein per color (see instructions). GAUGE after blocking: 23 sts x 44 rows = 10 x 10 cm / 4 x 4” in garter stitch; 22 sts x 32 full rows in plain Brioche stitch. Gauge is not critical; different gauge will only affect finished size and yardage. FINISHED SIZE after blocking: approx 244 x 44 cm / 96 x 17.25”. MATERIALS: Fingering weight yarn in 4 colors in the following quantities (amount for the smaller stole in brackets): C1 (white): 440 (366) m C2 (purple): 292 (292) m C3 (champagne): 402 (366) m C4 (peach): 292 (292) m Yarn used for the sample: Baah Yarns Lino, 90% Merino SW, 10% Wild Flax Fibre; 366 m/100 gr. Colors used: C1: Spider’s web; C2: Fable; C3: Sanderling; C4: Cracked clay. 3.25 mm / US 3 circular needle 60 cm / 24” long or longer, or size to obtain gauge. 3.75 mm / US 5 circular needle for Bind Off.
