Check it out! Here is something I haven’t been uploading on my page by now! It is a photograph for which I’m using stroboscopic effect, which is quite interesting for shooting moving objects! I’m explaining in detail how I’m doing it and what equipment I am using for it! I’m using my Canon 5D Mark II, with Canon 135mm f/2 lens, the main reason for using it is to compress the background as much as I can! The camera is mounted on a tripod, which is pretty low on the ground, well main reason is I guess to prevent it from being too big part of the picture and the 135mm is giving me quite good perspective to go low! As I mentioned in the strobist section, I’m using Pocket Wizard III Plus as a trigger for this shoot! For more detailed info and explanation how I do the stroboscopic effect and what gear I'm using, check my article: CLICK! Explored! #4 You might as well View On Black. (Does it make sense to anyone else that I was listening to Social Distortion while editing this?) Today was spent watching some more of Iron Man special features and then finishing a project for work... trying to put out a fire for a disagreeable client... blah. After that I had planned to go to the fair and take photos, but Tam wasn't feeling well and I decided to stick around with her. Then there was this... This is the result of the 3rd time that I edited it. It's another compilation of a few different photos. The first time I got a good ways through it and then photoshop just crashed... and I hadn't even saved the psd once. So I went to watch Dexter and then returned for a second time. This time I saved every few minutes, only to have it crash again. I figured I was safe cause I had been saving. Nope. It had apparently crashed while saving... so it corrupted the file. So here we are... and as they say... the third times a charm. The only way it was all worth it is if it makes Explore #1 tomorrow, or if someone wants a print of it. Either way, I'm going to bed. Strobist info: For the figure, I tried to match the photo I had of the car, so I lit it with an Alien Bees B800 from the right and then a bare Canon 430ex with a CTO gel from the rear.

Setup for very simple corporate/business portraits. / More info on this photo on my blog / Lighting info I shoot a lot of portraits for different companies every now and then and have been trying to find a good, basic setup to start from, thats works for almost every face and in small places. This is the result, and I like it very much. The main light is a simple beauty dish (but could probably be an umbrella). The rim light, that also acts as a background light, comes from a medium softbox angled along the background (see blog for more details and photos). / Photo #1 / / Photo #2 / / Photo #3 / Converted from RAW in Nikon Capture NX2 (for the skin tones), added some contrast with a Gradient Map in Photoshop and removed some small stuff. Converted to black and white in Lightroom and cropped there as well. Please visit my blog for other setups. / BLOG / TWITTER
When faced with the dilemma of not being able to hold his camera and his off-camera flash, Jesse Rosten used a little bit of ingenuity to devise what he jokingly calls the Strobist Jetpack. This is my good buddy Pat Bolster whom you have seen in my project a couple times already. Pat is an award winning bartender and he runs the show at the 5 1/2 Bar in downtown Pensacola. We were talking about his bartending career and he told me about how this overwhelming feeling came over him the first time he was behind the bar and picked up 2 bottles. It just hit him, he quickly realized what he wanted to do. If you are ever in this area, be sure to check him out. Please hit the letter L and view this large! Another shell that we brought back from Baja. Strobist info: I wanted to show the translucent qualities of the shell and make it glow so I placed a Strobie 130 in a Rogue grid behind and camera left to light up the thin part of the shell. For fill light, I used a YN560 in a 24 inch soft box camera left and in front at 7 o'clock. Both strobes, in manual mode, were triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N. Other pictures that I've taken of sea shell can be seen in my Shells album. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157626043932290/
Actually, all of the iris I photograph are in some kind of light, I'm just running out of titles. Strobist info: Lit, very simply, with one YN560-II in a 24 inch softbox, camera left at 8 o'clock. I then hand held a mirror, camera right, to bounce a little light onto that side of the flower. The flash was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603N. Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. In the description for that set, I list resources that I've used to learn how to light with off camera flash. www.flickr.com/photos/9422 Other Iris pictures that I've taken can be seen here. www.flickr.com/photos/9422878@N08/sets/72157623861858581/...

I bought this plant at the local building supply place four or five days ago so that I could practice my lighting on it. It's the ideal model, as it's cheap, never complains, and will stay in the same pose for hours. Strobist info: Because I wanted the petals to be luminous, and for the hairs on the stems and pods to stand out, I used backlighting for the main light. I put a snoot on a YN560-II and positioned it behind, and a little below the plants, at 1 o'clock. For fill light, I placed a YN560 in a softbox, in front, camera left at 7 o'clock and a Strobie 130 in a softbox in front, camera right at 4 o'clock. All three strobes were in manual mode, and I adjusted the output until I got the look I wanted. One strobe was triggered by a Yongnuo RF-603 radio trigger, and the other two were in slave mode. Other plants, flowers, fruit or thingys that I've photographed using strobes, can be seen in my Strobe Lit Plant set. In the description for that set, I list resources that I've used to learn how to light with off camera flash. www.flickr.com/photos/9422 Nine out of ten optometrists, who will say anything for money, implore you to view this large on a black background.
