Here are Winslow Homer art projects for kids that help us understand the famous American artist, Winslow Homer, and his amazing work!
The foundation of this artwork focusses upon a Bird’s Eye View Perspective of a simplistic, yet beautiful, beach scene. This lesson is a combined medium project that employs Tempera Paint, Markers, and Colored Pencils. Daily instruction introduces the use of Color in several ways. The Color Wheel will be used to review the 3 Primary, 3 Secondary, and 6 Intermediate colors. The students will be required to mix a Blue-Green color as well as several Tints derived from that specific intermediate color. The water area will be painted with this range of Blue-Green Tints creating a visual value scale within the artwork. Complementary Colors will be discussed and will then be applied to the project in two different ways. Tempera Paint will be blended to combine the Yellow/Violet Complementary color set in order to create a sand color for the beach scene background. Markers will then be used to color in three beach umbrellas with the 3 sets of Complementary Colors. For added interest, additional subject matter will be drawn and colored in with colored pencils. To conclude the project, the three beach umbrellas and additional subject matter will be cut out, arranged, then glued to the painted beach background. Each part of this lesson has been photographed and outlined in a step-by-step manner. Through the use of this PDF presentation, teaching the lesson will be done effortlessly and student understanding will be easily obtained. Materials needed for this lesson are basic drawing and painting supplies (Art Paper, Pencils, Erasers, Glue, Colored Pencils, Markers, Scissors, Tempera Paint, Paintbrushes, Water Dishes, Paper Towels, and Newspapers). A lesson plan has been included which outlines National Core Fine Arts Standards, Lesson Objectives, Material List, Vocabulary, as well as a detailed daily Teaching Procedure which guides instruction through three 60-minute art periods. Student handouts have been included to assist in the development of visuals associated with the beach theme. In addition, two Exit Slips and a Project Reflection handout will require the students to respond to prompts which focus on vocabulary as well as their personal experience with this lesson. Preparing for this lesson is very simple. Print enough copies of the student handouts and organize the art supplies needed for each day... Project the PDF slides during class time and guide the students through each step of the lesson. NOTE: This PDF presentation is non-editable.

Since Summer is on he horizon, it only seems fitting to draw Summer stuff. Seashells are a great way to teach balance, symmetry, contour line and form. I created a number of How To Draw Sea Shell worksheets after studying shells myself. I am giving these to the students to practice with drawing the shells. Students will draw 3 or more shells (all the same or different) in the middle of their paper. Use a pencil and draw light, till you know it's right. Then go darker of use permanent marker. Use crayons to color the seashells (use lots of pressure to seal up all paper) In the center of the paper, with a white crayon, draw small circles clumped together like grape clusters. This will be a line of sea foam that divides the water from the sand. Drawing the sand dollar, starfish and scallop here in time lapse... Drawing the alphabet cone and wentel trap here in time lapse... Drawing the bubbles with white crayon, coloring the shells with crayons and painting the sand and water with tempera cakes. This is called the crayon resist method. the top portion above shells and bubbles with blues, greens and purples. Paint the bottom portion with yellows, oranges and browns. You should be able to paint on top of the seashells since you colored hard with crayon. The wax will resisit the watercolor and stay unaffected. Madelynn, KindergARTen Alternative Idea Use brown paper, draw the shells and outline with black marker. A Day at the Beach 2nd Grade For more information please follow me on Instagram @youngschoolartwithmr.g Like me on Facebook https://m.facebook.com/youngschoolart/ We're ready for summertime! We mixed our own tints and shades to create a beautiful day at the beach! We enjoyed designing our own flipflops and adding details such as an anchor and a starfish. How do you create a tint? How do you create a shade? We loved painting the waves! First, we painted white waves. Next, we painted blue waves. Lastly, we mixed the two colors together to create a tint of blue. We looked at many different types of anchors and found many hidden letters such as T, J, i, and U. This was very helpful when it came time to draw the anchor. We used Q-tips to add details to the starfish. Writing Connection: Write about your favorite day at the beach.
