For many kids, one of the staples of growing up is attending camps in the summer. It doesn't matter the type, length, or location--but most kids have been to at least one. Summer camps give students unlimited opportunities to be kids. ***THIS RESOURCE IS NOW DIGITAL for DISTANCE LEARNING*** See below for more details on using it with Google Slides. This year, instead of sending students to a summer camp, let students create their own. If kids could create the perfect summer camp--what would it be? What would they do? Where would they go? How would they design it? Create A Summer Camp does this. It asks students to design their perfect summer camp. This project integrates elements of planning, design, and organization with cross curricular activities for students to create their own summer camp. At the end of this PBL students will have completely developed unique and personalized summer camp. There are 20 activities (most are 1 page each) for students to complete. Each page involves an issue or topic they must solve, design, create, or research. As students work through each page, they will make their own decisions and choose the outcomes based on information they learn. By the end, all students will have completed the project, but each version will be based on the creator’s imagination, creativity, and knowledge base. What's Included PAGE 7 Title Page - Introduction 9 Camp Brainstorm Students brainstorm what they know about summer camps. (This is two pages long.) 11 Summer Camp Types Students write about what happens at different types of camps (sports, art, academics). 12 What To Do Students list four activities they’d like at their own summer camp and include why they chose it. 13 Thinking of Students answer open ended questions about summer camps based on their own preferences. 14 Make It Official Students will give their camp a title, create a logo, and add a slogan. 15 Camp Theme Students develop a theme for their camp along with activities that will go with it. 16 Job position Students pick kids that would work with them at the summer camp. 17 Camp Activities Students must think of over 20 activities that kids can participate in at the camp. -Students will illustrate 4-8 of those activities look like. 20 Pack Their Bags Students must list 8 essential items that campers need to bring when they come to camp. 21 Menu For The Week Students create a menu for the entire week (three meals a day, food and drink). 22 Essentials Students develop what resources are needed at the camp site. They will pick from a group, along with add in their own options (if they have them). 23 Flyers Students create a flyer for the camp that includes the camp name, logo, and activities for kids to do. This can be replaced with students creating a tri-fold with a regular sheet of paper. 24 Campstagram Students share photos (drawing) of what life is like at camp with the social media app. 25 Schedules Students will create a single day schedule of camp. There are requirements for the day that must be included. Students can also try to create a week-long schedule (on the following page) using the same rules. 27 A Letter Home Students write a letter home that tells all about their summer camp experience. 28 Top Draw Students must design, label, and draw an illustration of a world-class obstacle course that the summer camp has. 29 Camp Design This is a two-part activity for creating a map of the summer camp. Students will create a map and map key with activities and locations around the camp. 33 Problem Solver Students must be able to problem solve six situations that could happen during summer camp such as bears invading, poison ivy, and thunderstorms. All pages can be geared towards multiple grade levels, although for some younger students the teacher may need to give more explicit instructions. Students may choose to use multiple resources to complete each page. They might even choose to work with a partner, but you get final say on that. ***THIS RESOURCE IS NOW DIGITAL!*** ACCESSING THIS DIGITAL RESOURCE There are two pdf files included in the zip file.
