Completely Icelandic, down to the traditional patterning of the Icelandic woolen jumper and volcanic rock. They didn't have any banker gnomes getting put into gnome jail though.
Certainly an area that shows the power of nature and time - rushing water carves a path through the limestone canyon and potholes form over the years from plunging waterfalls. This is one of the most popular hikes in Banff National Park. The trail begins as a paved walkway for the first 1.1 km (0.7 miles) to the Lower Falls . Here, the water plunges 10 m (33 feet) into a deeply carved pothole below. The trail becomes slightly more rugged as the hike continues to the Upper Falls (2.7 km/1.7 miles) and Ink Pots. The Upper Falls are dramatic with water cascading down more than 30 m (almost 100 feet). At this point, the trail leaves the creek and widens on route to the Ink Pots. It narrows again for a final descent to the Johnston Valley bottom and the Ink Pots (six clear greenish pools filled with spring water that remains at a constant 1-degree Celsius year-round). Johnston Canyon is shaded and moist - bring an extra layer of clothing. Bring a bird book - this canyon is a unique for bird watching. Bring a water bottle and snack. Quick water stops are important every 20-30 minutes (more often if it is hot), especially if you are not used to higher elevations. Wear appropriate day-hiking shoes for the trail beyond Lower Falls . Slow your pace; slow your breathing. Smell the scent from the surrounding spruce, pine and fir forest. Drive west from Banff on the Trans-Canada Hwy. Take the 1A Hwy ( Bow Valley Parkway) turnoff and continue west 18 km (11 miles) to Johnston Canyon Lodge. Past the lodge, a trail sign at the northern end of the parking lot marks the start of the hike.

We recently reviewed the So MAGIC DIY Wonder Magic Garden for Canal Toys and now they've sent us the So Slime DIY Slimelicious Station for review. Suitable for age 6+, this is a scented-slime making kit with enough ingredients and decorations to make 16 little pots of imitation ice cream slime... Everything is housed in a sturdy box, which can easily be used for storage if you don't make all of your slimes at once. It's an exciting parcel to open. Included in the kit are a lot of parts, which are easy to distinguish: Slime Station 4 Mini shakers Scented Slime powder 2 Tools Stickers 3 Tubes of colour Instructions 6 bags of decorations 3 decorative straws There is a little assembly required and it's actually quite hard to clip everything together, so you might need a grown up. You only need to add plain water, everything else is included, so you can play straight away. Christmas morning-friendly. All of the ingredients are non-toxic, so although you definitely aren't meant to eat your slime, if an incident occurs, it's mainly algae-based. Place the little cup from the mini shaker on the station, add the slime powder, colours/scents and water, and shake. Finally, decorate your creation and 'serve'. It's super-easy to use and a 6 year old will have no problems, although it can be a bit gruesome looking before you shake it! Your basic slime scents are Bubble Gum, Popcorn and Grape Soda - blue, yellow and pink. By mixing the different scents/colours you can create a host of different ones. We found strawberry was a clear favourite, and the yellow is really vanilla. Some of the mixtures are uncannily like the food or drink they are representing and they do smell and look delicious. By altering the amount of water they add, just by a few drops, children can change the thickness of their slime. There's plenty of room for some chemistry and experimentation. By making the slime a bit thicker, we were able to twist two colours together and make a special 'ice cream'. The So Slime DIY Slimelicious Station has been a hit. It's novel and cute and there's a lot of fun to be had playing with the slime as well as creating with it. We've not run out of mixture yet, so there is plenty of play value for your money. It really isn't the most eco-friendly toy, but after a couple of weeks when your slime has either hardened or become runny (depending on whether you left the lid tightly on the pot), you can take everything out and reuse with fresh slime. The So Slime DIY Slimelicious Station has an rrp of £19.99 and is available now. Also available are So Slime DIY Slimelicious Case £14.99rrp, So Slime DIY Slimelicious 3 Pack £9.99rrp and So Slime DIY Slimelicious Shaker £4.99rrp.
