Lovely cotton fabric w/tatting and button. Tatting is from Mini Tats book Motif #11. I used five different gold fabrics to create this lovely flower. Added an easy tatted motif (pattern below) + secured w/button. I like this lavender material so much - the photo doesn't do justice to the lovely color and charming motifs. Added an easy tatted motif (pattern below) + secure w/button. Lovely off white fabric w/navy stars. Added an easy tatted pattern (pattern below) and button. This is a pattern sheet I created with some easy-to-tat motifs. I like to make them and use them on the kanzashi flowers. I tried to make the lettering darker. I enjoy making Kanzashi flowers (w/templates by Clover) and adding tatting to decorate. I like to secure w/button or a fabric yo yo. (middle flower has motif #8 from Mini Tats book). Comments? Questions? e-mail me

tatted butterfly pattern
This is a second test tat of the Butterfly Carousel from Elaine P. Gan from Test Tatters on Facebook. I was hoping to get it fully correct this time, but made the same small mistake!! I NEED to pay more attention when near or at the end of things!!!! This is tatted in size 40 Queen Anthias from Tat-ilicious and variegated greens from her too. I totally love this piece(even with my mistake!!!). I made one small change in the pattern and made the small single ring next to the outer butterflies an SCMR so that it looks like leaves next to the butterflies. :)
I bought some butterfly hairclips recently and have this sudden urge to tat some butterflies. These are the first 2 I came up with - the pink one was tatted with Flora 20 threads, and the other with Manuela 20 thread. With a ribbon weaved through the body, I think they will make a quick bookmark. What do you think ? Watch out for 1 or 2 more variations. These will be part of Motif No. 13 for the 25-Motif Challenge. Next is my latest acquisition from ebay - a 1 1/2 inch Irish bog oak tatting shuttle that used 4000 year old Irish bog oak and inlayed with a simple Celtic swirl design in Malachite. And here's the feeding device Ivan drew from the basis sketch I talked about earlier. Ivan went through with me how the machine works (if it works, I wonder), but well, I'm still impressed!

TATS HEAVEN - Tatting on earth with heavenly connections!
Happy May Day Does anyone celebrate May Day anymore? Last Sunday, at Church, one of the little boys was looking at his song bird and thought it was a butterfly. Explaining butterflies has four wings, not two. So, I asked him if he wanted a butterfly on a paperclip. This was simple to design, using size 20 thread.

Do you ever have a little tatting voice inside your head? Do you ever have a slump where you don't feel like tatting, or maybe you feel like it, but can't pick anything to make? A while back I was in a slump, and as I would sort through my balls of thread hoping for inspiration for the next project, the little voice would say, "I don't want these, I want to tat with some different colors." Which was odd, because, believe me, I have lots of colors. Eventually, I figured it out, I needed HDT. Or in this case, hand-painted thread as Karey calls hers. I pulled out a skein of her "County Fair" thread and a much admired book from the shelf and was back in business. All of these butterflies are from Tatted Butterflies by Adelheid Dangela. There are quite a lot of good designs in this book. The patterns are all in diagram form, so maybe too hard for a new beginner, but highly recommended for anyone with a little experience, enough to look at the picture and know when to reverse work or switch shuttles.

"Hope" Here she is. A lot of work goes into designing and writing a pattern so please leave a comment letting me know that you have downloaded her. Enjoy!
I just mastered tatting class number three. The class wasn't actually about making a butterfly. The butterfly pattern was used to practice making joined loops. This seems like it should be easy, but it took me a few tries. When I was cro-tatting, this wasn't even an issue. It was simple to start the next loop where the last one left off. With the shuttle, you have to be aware of which string to hold tension on so that your first stitch of the new loop stays in place. The other thing I'm finding as a new tatter is that the quality of thread really does make a difference. In particular, I think you need a tight and well set twist. I was practicing with one brand of size 10 cotton and I kept having to let my shuttle hang and unwind. The cotton kept trying to ply on me which was a nuisance, not to mention the fact that it can spoil a picot. I hope you don't mind coming on this tatting journey with me. In the meantime, I'm doing my best to not neglect Wind Rose Fiber Studio. I have 2 1/2 pounds of Merino drying out in the sun right now. They are destined to become my next batch of skin tone samplers. I'll be able to list them back in the shop tomorrow and they'll be ready to ship out Tuesday morning. This butterfly has lovely double-wings and two versions for the body. It is done in one round and there are no ends to hide! Made in size 20 thread, the butterfly will measure approximately 1.5in x 1in. The pattern uses rings, one split ring and a lock chain. It is made with only one shuttle. The pattern, written for the shuttle, is in English and contains detailed instructions, a diagram and photos to explain the special technique for the wide body.

The "Night Wind" blows where it will - some of the skeins turned out with a lighter shade of purple than others, even though they were all painted at the same time with the same dye. The blues are the same, just the purple is paler on some. So, I separated them out in my Etsy shop listings. The size 40, 50, and 80 all have the paler purple. I did my best to photograph the colors as they appear.

Paper clip for the month - Butterflies - click on the link for the pattern at Georgia's Online Tatting Class. This is a simple and quick one, and I had designed it such that you can slip a thin ribbon on it to make a bookmark, in addition to tatting it on a paper clip. You can also tie the ribbon in such a way to make a necklace or make the head ring a little bigger and add a metal ring to hang as a pendant on a necklace chain. Quick and sweet gifts for little girls!
