I found this Math Reference Sheet many years ago on Ms. Sanchez's class website. Her download is still available. I printed out 25 colored copies and mounted on card stock. On the backside I made a sheet of cut and pasted resources that fit my students' needs like measurement charts, number words, etc. I then laminated the cards. They held up for four years and it is now time to remake them. If this is too old for your class, there are a variety of sheets available on TPT for free that might fit your needs. Link Here are my math tool kits that I will have the children store on their desks. It will become the Math/Science tool kit. I need to come up with a clever name for them. We do not use Everyday Math anymore and will be adopting Go Math. While looking for her website, I stumbled across her Science Sheet that I will also be making for my students. Link

Today, I wanted students to get a "real feel" for the volume of rectangular prisms. We learned the formula yesterday and I felt as if they understood how to complete the formula, but I wasn't convinced that they were convinced that there really were 36 cubic centimeters in the rectangular prism they calculated on paper ;) Whenever possible, I like to bring in some hands-on activities so that students can grasp a concept and truly see how a formula, fractions, etc work. I find that in math it is very easy to do! Materials Needed: cardstock or construction paper marshmallows (sugar cubes work best, but no one sells them anymore!) glue I first modeled EXACTLY what I wanted students to do with the materials. I have the luxury of a document camera, but you can also gather them on the floor/carpet to demonstrate. I made sure they set up the paper with both equations (V=B*h & V=l*w*h) and told them that they could decide whether to use a certain amount of marshmallows or build and then count as they built. The idea is to have them see that the total can really be found by using the formula, so they need to know what the total is before they complete the formulas. I built my rectangular prism using 18 marshmallows and we labeled the base and the height together and filled in the formula as a class. Next, I let students go to town on building their rectangular prism models. Some chose to make two models, others chose to make irregular prisms. This is a great activity that allows for differentiation and for me to see exactly what level each child is understanding this concept.

I decided to have my 7th grade Pre Algebra students use anchor charts this year. I didn't think I would like them or my kids, but they absolutely love them. It probably has helped that I have added pictures and made them colorful! I feel like I should share that I have used and made with everyone. Pre Algebra ones are hard to find! This is the first one I used this year to introduce Number Sense with must students! I had them copy these into their journals as we did the investigations! They totally loved the angry birds! I started a little theme with them for Number Sense! I am not posting in order as we did them, but since we are done with Number Sense, I am just posting everything at one time! ENJOY! On to our next unit: Ratio and Proportions! I decided to do a Lego theme with this unit!
