Today we used dice to roll for the parts of our monsters creating a unique creature. This would be fun for elementary, but also worked will for my middle school adaptive art class.

Thank you to everyone who visited the Sew Loved opening night! The gallery was packed with artists and their families talking about all of the great soft sculpture art while noshing on grapes and cheese cubes. The photo above was taken at the very end of opening night. This young artist wanted to stay until the very last so he didn't miss the chance to share his art work with any last minute gallery goers. Stop by to see the colorful work of Sandy's 6th grade math group also displayed in the gallery. They created ratios comparing the different colors used in the exhibit! We had 60 pieces in the show submitted by students, teachers, parents, and grandparents! Here are a few to share with more on the way. I am so impressed with the inventiveness of our creative artists!
Bobby Chiu and Kei Acedera are the team behind Imaginism Studios. And the name is certainly appropriate if the illustrations on their DeviantArt page are any indication. Take a look at just a small sampling of some of the creatures they've created. If they were real, we'd love to have them as pets.

This 36 slide Powerpoint presentation is perfect to introduce your students to self-portraits in art history. It features over 60 different self-portraits from a wide range of artists throughout history and from different cultures. I would use this with grades 3 and up. Some of the artists included are: Vincent van Gogh Frida Kahlo Yayoi Kusama Kehinde Wiley Cindy Sherman Leonardo daVinci Rembrandt Basquiat Albrecht Durer Henri Matisse Marc Chagall Edvard Munch ... and many more! The images are paired with facts and discussion questions to aid your students' understanding of self-portraiture. Self-portraits are wonderful for students to explore identity and self-expression. This Powerpoint is useful to teach about these concepts before starting a self-portrait art project. ** This presentation is in a PowerPoint format and a PDF format. These are non-editable files. ***
