Dereham Neatherd High School - HANDBALL! Hello all. We had a brilliant time over at Taverham last week for the Yr 8 Handball Tournament. This tourney is a qualifier for the County Finals that are held at UEA in February. We have had a handful of after school training sessions because the girls have not covered Handball in lessons yet, but we had gained confidence and they had been playing really well as a team, attacking and defending strongly. As always I was lucky enough to have a minibus full of girls interested so off we popped with 2 teams. Only one other school from our West Norwich and Dereham School’s Sports Partnership achieved this. As well as my usual crew, it was also lovely to see some different faces at our training sessions and therefore playing in these games. Results: Neatherd A v Northgate L: 5-2 Neatherd A v Ormistion B W: 8-1 Neatherd A v Taverham L: 4-2 Neatherd B v Ormiston A W: 6-2 Neatherd B v Reepham L: 6 -0 Neatherd B v Northgate D: 3 – 3 (friendly due to Ormiston having to leave) Although we didn’t get through to the final (Congratulations to Reepham and Taverham who did so, and Taverham who then won this and go through to represent WNDSSP) we played some cracking Handball. We were incredibly unlucky not to score more of our chances. Some of the opposition’s goalies were absolutely awesome. I don’t think I have ever seen so many red faces, my word we worked hard! Players of the Matches: Lucy K, (worked her socks off, scored 4 goals in one match), Keiana F, (determined in everything she did), Gaby B (organised and fast in attack, scored 3 goals in one match), Rebecca L (strong in defence and organising the team), and last but certainly not least Millie W (wanted to play in goal for all group B’s matches and was phenomenal). It was an immensely enjoyable evening. Brilliant you lovely lot, just brilliant!! Mrs T
