In a spirit of gratefulness, I love to say THANK YOU, so thank you cards are always high on my must-make list. I like to keep a stash of them, and I have people who frequently ask me to make them a stash of thank-you's too. Using a large sentiment paired with an interesting background is a simple formula for creating a whole stack of thank you cards quickly. Let's take a look at a few ideas, and I'll show you some ideas you can create with YOUR supplies at home! This blog post contains affiliate links. If you shop through my links I may receive compensation at no cost to you. Thank you from the bottom of my crafty heart! On this card, I paired a large thanks stamp with a stamped floral background, plus a strip of patterned paper. You could create this idea using whatever floral stamps you have - even individual flowers that can be stamped together to create a background. The green polka dots give this card a fresh springtime feel, and the strip of black cardstock helps the sentiment POP. *Just a note: the stamps I used on this card are no longer available, but I have linked a VERY similar stamp at the end, plus some other ideas that would look awesome too! If you like to do mixed media, and you have fun trying different techniques with the Gel Press, stencils, paint, and more - then you likely have colorful patterned sheets hanging around your craft room. I had accumulated a good stack of prints, so I cut them into card size pieces and added a stamped sentiment. This is one of those glue-and-go projects. I picked coordinating colors of card bases, trimmed down some prints, and then stamped and trimmed the sentiment. Fastest cards ever. And every single one is unique! Cards like this make a perfect gift set because the sentiment and layout ties them together. The recipient will love looking at all of the creative patterns and colors, and they'll enjoy sending out special thank you cards! The print on the card above was created with drops of Re-Inker on the Gel Press. I brayered the colors out just enough to blend them and stretch them a bit, and then I pulled prints. The swirly cards below were created with a shaving cream technique, using FSJ Liquid Colors. If you aren't into mixed media, and messy playtime, think about your patterned paper stash! Do you have sheets of paper that are so pretty, they can stand on their own as a card base? Those would be perfect for the background of your thank you cards. As for the sentiment - think BIG and bold. Whether you prefer to stamp a sentiment or a die cut one, there are so many to choose from if you don't have something in your stash. Here are a few I love, if you want to do a little shopping: Ranger Letter It Clear Stamps - Thank You (This is not the same set that I used, but it is almost the exact same "thanks" stamp. Lots of awesome mix and match options with this set!) Impression Obsession Thank You Die Waffle Flower Oversized Thank You dies (check out the samples on the website - they are SOOO cute!) I'm so glad you stopped by today! Let's connect again -subscribe so you don't miss a blog post! xoxo

Thank you all for the birthday wishes! Here are some ways to express this simple sentiment, along with images you can share on Facebook.
It's been a while since I've taken stock, so I thought I'd sit down, catch-up and do a September post. Can you believe how quickly this year is zooming along? It's practically October and in a blink, we'll be celebrating Christmas. MAKING: I managed to get a few things finished this past month. A few were longer term projects and some were quicker finishes. My rainbowy orange peely temperature quilt is now done - YAY! I also made and shared the pattern for an Autumn table runner (below). My Berry Pie crochet blanket was finished. Most recently, I made a new set of Green Geese place mats for Crafters Edge. COOKING: This delicious chorizo pilaf. It's very tasty but if you decide to make it, you don't need that many chorizo sausages included in the recipe. We think that 2-3 is plenty. READING: I've finished a couple of good books this past month. Both written by Chris Hammer, I finished Scrublands first and then finished Silver yesterday. I'm now reading Trust which is the 3rd book in the Martin Scarsden series. Atmospheric, fast paced and gripping plots all set in Australian locations. If you enjoy the mystery/crime genre, I can definitely recommend them for you. HEARING: Rain splashing on the pool mat, my son talking to someone while he plays computer games and my daughter talking with the dog, telling he's a good boy. Charlie had a bath today and he's extra fluffy and smelling lovely. WISHING: This lockdown ends soon and life returns to normal soon. ENJOYING: The scent of my sweet peas. They're usually the first sign that spring has arrived and their sweet smell makes me very happy. EATING: This Jamie Oliver cauliflower mac & cheese. I made a big dish of it last night and we have some leftover for tonight. YUM! BUYING: Not buying just yet, but I have been looking at getting a new outdoor wicker lounge set for the back deck area. Somewhere comfy to sit and stitch. Hubby says it'll be a great place for spiders to live. Hmmmm... men! WATCHING: Atypical on Netflix has been quite enjoyable though it took me a while to figure out where I recognized the mum from... Jennifer Jason Leigh. She was in quite popular in films back in the 80's/90's. NEEDING: New swimmers WEARING: Daggy walking clothes. I'm about to take Charlie out for a walk around the block to tire him out a little bit. We're still not great at walks - he spends the whole time pulling on the harness trying to run ahead. FOLLOWING: Messy Nessy Chic - a quirky website with information about some of the most obscure things which I didn't know that I wanted to know more about... if that makes any sense. Go check it out. SORTING: Not just yet, but I want to sort out our Christmas decorations this year and dispose of some of the older stuff. Tatty old tinsel and broken baubles have to go! SAVING: For our next overseas holiday. So many places I'd like to go and visit. The usuals, plus Alaska, Ireland, New Zealand, Japan FEELING: In need of another cup of coffee. How many cups of tea or coffee do you drink through the day? If you'd like to take stock too, here's the list of prompts that I use. Making: Cooking: Reading: Hearing: Wishing: Enjoying: Eating: Buying: Watching: Needing: Wearing: Following: Sorting: Saving: Feeling: The original (longer list) Taking Stock can be found at Meet me at Mike's blog.

For the past few months, I've been having stencil angst. Yes, actual angst over an actual piece of plastic for cookie decorating. For real. Maybe you feel this way, too....but sometimes I see pictures of other decorated cookies that are utter perfection and I'm paralyzed. Cookie paralyzed. For example, I love the look stencils can give cookies (you can find some really great ones here). I ordered several and read up on the best way to use them. Then, I gave it a try, didn't think they were "perfect" enough, and tossed them. I stashed the stencils away, but I thought about them a LOT. Fast forward to last month...we spent a few hours at our town's art festival. The art was beautiful, inspiring, creative...and guess what? Not perfect. Actually, the art that was more quirky, less perfect, more real was the art that was my favorite. And hello, Bridget. These are cookies we're talking about, not the Sistine Chapel. When I had the chance to make some thank you cookies, I busted out the stencils again. No airbrush, no special stencil magnets, no angst. (Ok, a little angst.) I guess what I'm trying to say here is...don't let the fear of imperfection keep you from creating. In the end, I kind of love that the stenciling on the cookies is a little wonky. Let's make a deal. Let's try to not be paralyzed by the fear of imperfection. Maybe we won't strive for wonky, but let's embrace it and find the beauty in the rustic, the homemade, the flawed. To make these gold chevron stenciled floral cookies ;), you'll need: sugar cookies (any shapes will work) royal icing, divided and tinted with AmeriColor Turquoise, Ivory, Electric Pink, Peach, Avocado disposable icing bags couplers and tips, #2, #3, #4, #1, leaf (such as Ateco #349 & Ateco #68), and star (such as Wilton #15 & Ateco #96) squeeze bottles toothpicks chevron stencil gold food coloring spray Use #2 tips to outline the cookies with ivory and turquoise icing. Reserve some of this piping consistency icing before thinning. Thin the ivory and turquoise icings with water, a bit at a time, stirring with a silicone spatula, until it is the consistency of a thick syrup. (Reserve some of the white icing for piping details later.) You'll want to drop a "ribbon" of icing back into the bowl and have it disappear in a count of "one thousand one, one thousand two." Four is too thick, one is too thin. Count of 2-3 is good. Cover with a damp dishcloth and let sit for several minutes. Stir gently with a silicone spatula to pop and large air bubbles that have formed. Pour into squeeze bottles. Fill in the outlines with the thinned icing, using a toothpick to guide to the edges and to pop large air bubbles. Let the cookies dry at least one hour. For the "thank you" cookies: Use star tips to make rosettes with the star tips in the pink icing. Use #3 or #4 tips to pipe the base of swirly flowers in peach icing. Switch the tips on the pink to #1 and add a swirl on top of the peach icing. Use a leaf tip to pipe leaves in the avocado icing. Pipe working using a #1 or #1.5 tip. (I used both 1 & 1.5 PME tips.) Let the cookies dry, uncovered, 6-8 hours or overnight. For the chevron cookies: Let the base color dry completely before stenciling. Place the cookie on a small plate and the plate on a cookie sheet. Rest the stencil lightly over the top of the cookie, and spray a light coating of gold spray evenly over the top. Gently lift the stencil off of the cookie, and blot it before placing it onto another cookie. Pipe on flowers and leaves as described above. Be not afraid. Go forth and cookie!
