A rare typewriter roll top desk from the Edwardian period. A beautiful worm golden oak desk with fielded (bevelled) panels all round. The polished back allows you to use the desk off the wall if required. The rare and unusual folding top mechanism is working as intended and will store the typewriter or laptop underneath and out of sight locked in when the roll is down. As with most quality roll tops, the interior is a plethora of drawers, compartments and pen slides. The pedestal drawers have nicely carved drawer pulls and one drawer has a lock. Both the drawer and the tambour have working locks with a spare key supplied. Worktop Height - 79cm Kneehole Size Width - 51cm to plinth Height - 70cm See less

This is a beautiful and very rare late Victorian 1880s solid oak tabletop slope stationery cabinet, English made. It is in excellent looked after condition and when viewed from the outside seems to be of simplistic form. However, once the hinged lid is lifted it reveals a wonderful and very rare and unusual interior. It has to be one of the finest quality cabinets we have had in many years, the quality evident throughout. Opening the domed solid oak lid and then lowering the front panel reveals the inner compartments and a full sized writing slope covered in leather. The main compartment holds five letter divider/pockets ranging in depth, all have cut out tops and dividers. . It also has and 3 charming pull out drawers and a very rare calendar. In addition there is another full sized sprung drawer, containing a full sized pen rest, a stamp or spare nib container and two ink bottle holders. The original glass ink bottles are in place. This sprung drawer automatically comes out and retracts as the front is lowered or raised. The front panel then folds open twice to reveal a Moroccan leather clad writing skiver and further storage compartment. The oak is in beautiful antique condition; there are no worm holes and no obvious damage although there is a very slight warp to the lid. The only wear visible just adds to the ambience of the cabinet. The wood has developed a beautiful colour and patina that can only come from age and use and cannot be replicated. We have fed the wood with an antique wood restorer and wood balsam and then hand polished with beeswax to enhance the colour and patina. There are two solid brass escutcheon gothic style handles to either side. The cabinet is very heavy.
