A stork is sitting on the bank of a pond busy eating frogs. More frogs are swarming at his feet and seem unsure whether to come to him or leap away.
Once upon a time, there was a pond full of frogs. The frogs had no rules or leaders. They could do whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted. They could
The Frog and the Ox: a classic fable about the importance of being yourself and the dangers of comparison.
“The Frogs Who Desired a King” 8”x10”. Layered wood. 2019. My latest laser cut wood bas relief panel is inspired by one of Aesop’s Fables about a group of frogs who call on Zeus to send them a strong leader. Continue reading below for the full fable as excerpted from Wikipedia. ⚜️ ..... According to the story, a group of frogs lived happily and peacefully in a pond. Over time, however, they became discontented with their way of life, and thought they should have a mighty king to rule over them. They called out to the great god Zeus to send them a king. Zeus was amused by the frogs’ request, and cast a large log down into their pond, saying “Behold, your king!” At first, the frogs were terrified of the huge log, but after seeing that it did not move, they began to climb upon it. Once they realized the log would not move, they called out again to Zeus to send them a real king, one that moved. Annoyed by the frogs, Zeus said, “Very well, here is your new king,” and sent a large stork to the pond. The stork began devouring frogs. In terror, frogs called out to Zeus to save them. Zeus refused, saying the frogs now had what they’d wanted, and had to face the consequences. To some, the simple lesson of the story is “leave well enough alone,” or “be careful what you wish for.” More politically minded readers would interpret the story as a warning against giving too much power to a monarch, president, or chief executive of a geographic area. In times of crisis, people may desire a strong ruler to protect them, but a strong ruler can quickly and easily become a tyrant.

"In the olden days there lived a King whose daughters were all beautiful, but the youngest of them was even lovelier than the others..." This Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone illustration was salvaged from the 1977 book Dean's "A Book of Fairy Tales." It features the second and last pages of the story of the Frog Prince, illustrating the princess's distaste for sharing food with a frog and when the frog changes back into a prince. The full-page artwork is fine and intricate, with gorgeous, lush detailing that draws you into the story. The illustration measures 10 3/4" by 8 1/4". The page is clean with slightly rounded corners and minor creasing where it was attached to the the spine. Framed and matted these minor imperfections in the margin would not be seen. Vintage prints are always the perfect decorating choice for any room in your home or office. The illustration would also be great for use in your collage, mixed media or altered art projects. The Johnstones were British children's book illustrators best known for their delicate, detailed artwork who made names for themselves after illustrating the classic "The Hundred and One Dalmatians." Their prolific art made them the most widely recognized illustrators of children's books in England, and Dean's Fairy Tales is one of their more popular works. Not to be confused with "Human Again", but these similar concept songs both sing about how they wish to be returned to their human forms. This fun little jam was written by Randy Newman...which is surprisingly a much different style than his normal "You Got a Friend In Me" track.
