This morning AN reported that a massive collection of Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural drawings, photographs, models, and more are heading to a new home
Lovers of architecture usually have strong feelings about Frank Lloyd Wright and the Prairie School of architecture that grew up around him. Problematic personality aside, he is fairly credited as the founder of an entirely new, distinctly American style of design that fundamentally changed modern architecture. However

For the last few weeks we have been hard at work parsing sentences with a new online grammar program called GrammarPlanet. Parse is analyzing a sentences and then dividing it into grammatical parts. GrammarPlanet is the based off the popular curriculum Analytical Grammar. This is an online program. It teaches grammar concepts through videos with its online grammar program. You have PDFs to download and print for each unit. Currently, there are 13 Units and more will be added. GrammarPlanet is intended for ages 10 and up to adults. There is a free version which is supported by ads. Eventually, they will have an option to upgrade to a paid subscription that will be ad free. All you need to do is sign up using your email to get an account parent/teacher account started. Each student will have their own account and you will create a separate password for each student. As a parent you can keep track of your student’s progress. They recommend that you work on this no longer than 15 minutes and do it every other day. The Videos: The videos vary in length from a few minutes up to around 10 minutes currently. Each unit builds upon itself and adds more parts of grammar to each unit. At first we started with nouns that we had to label and then kept adding more grammatical parts to it. You answer a few questions throughout the video that require a true or false question. After the video lesson you then label each sentence with the correct parts of speech. You get immediate feedback on each question. It will also let you know what the correct answer should be. On the left side it keeps track of the answers that you get wrong. If you get to many questions wrong you it locks the account and the teacher/parent has to unlock it to move on. I would have to log into my account to unlock the lesson. Erin Karl presents each lesson in the videos. She is easy to understand and breaks it up in small pieces to understand. They recommend you do each sentence in order. Find the nouns first and then the pronouns and so on. My son was very impatient with this concept and wanted to mark as he was reading the sentence over the second time. This resulted in many wrong answers on his end. The units do get more difficult as you progress. I like that there are questions throughout the video. It really brings your focus back to the task if you have a child who has a wandering mind. Like I mentioned the questions are true or false questions. You have an option to skip it or replay the section back. While watching the video you can see what concept will be taught with an outline off to the left side of the video. The PDFs: My son thought that the PDFs are essential and have helped him out a lot. You can download them and print them out. Or just keep another tab open and keep flipping back and forth in your computer when you need assistance. The PDFs cover everything that you are learning in each Unit. Erin goes over every concept in the video that you see on the PDFs. How Did I Use GrammarPlanet in my Homeschool? I used this with my 12 year old son. I had originally planned on using this with my 15 year old special needs daughter. After using this with my son for a few days I decided to hold off with her for now. I think she can do the program with my help. She has been having a few medical issues going on. GrammarPlanet is a mastery based grammar program. I was delighted at a free online grammar program being such a solid program. I was actually surprised at how hard of a time my son had with the program. He would miss a lot of questions. When I asked him what the grammatical parts are and what the parts of speech meant he could answer the questions. I’m not sure why he had such difficulty with GrammarPlanet. I was very impressed with GrammarPlanet. My son is actually very good with grammar but, wasn’t fond of it. GrammarPlanet is impressive and I know it would be beneficial for him to do this a few times a week. The lessons are no longer than 15 minutes. I think we are going to step away from it for a bit and then revisit it later with my son. Eventually, I’m going to introduce this to my daughter down the road. Métis teenager Echo Desjardins is struggling to adjust to a new school and a new home. When an ordinary history class turns extraordinary, Echo is pulled into a time-travelling adventure. Follow Echo as she experiences pivotal events from Métis history and imagines what the future might hold. This omnibus edition includes all four volumes in the A Girl Called Echo series: In Pemmican Wars, Echo finds herself transported to the prairies of 1814. She witnesses a bison hunt, visits a Métis camp, and travels the fur-trade routes. Experience the perilous era of the Pemmican Wars and the events that lead to the Battle of Seven Oaks. In Red River Resistance, we join Echo on the banks of the Red River in the summer of 1869. Canadian surveyors have arrived and Métis families, who have lived there for generations, are losing their land. As the Resistance takes hold, Echo fears for the future of her people in Red River. In Northwest Resistance, Echo travels to 1885. The bison are gone and settlers from the East are arriving in droves. The Métis face starvation and uncertainty as both their survival and traditional way of life are threatened. The Canadian government has ignored their petitions, but hope rises with the return of Louis Riel. In Road Allowance Era, Echo returns to 1885. Louis Riel is standing trial, and the government has not fulfilled its promise of land for the Métis. Burnt out of their home in Ste. Madeleine, Echo’s people make their way to Rooster Town, a shanty community on the southwest edges of Winnipeg. In this final instalment, Echo is reminded of the strength and perseverance of the Métis. This special omnibus edition of Katherena Vermette’s best-selling series features an all-new foreword by Chantal Fiola (Returning to Ceremony: Spirituality in Manitoba Métis Communities), a historical timeline, and an essay about Métis being and belonging by Brenda Macdougall (Contours of a People: Métis Family, Mobility, and History).

Walnut Grove School House Model 1/87Th Scale 1974-1986 Little House on the Prairie NBC This is a of a follow-up to one of my earliest post --look back and you will see the story behind this commissioned project. A reader mentioned that I never posted any images of the final Schoolhouse model in this continuing series. One of the others is almost completed - Nellie's Restaurant. The Ingalls' Farm complex is in the starting phase. I'll post images of those as they are ready. calling in the kids............. The model, like the others in this series is made from styrene, foam, vinyl and brass if you look very carefully there are two bluebirds in the oak tree just to the left of the school The real set locations were in Simi Valley, but these models were photographed in the back country of San Diego which has a similar look of yellow grass and oak trees. While doing research for these models I noticed the school's outhouse over the decades changed locations sometimes it was on the left, sometimes it was on the right-------and sometimes these is NO outhouse at all!! the location on the right seemed to be the most common -so that it where I planted it. The real television building sets were all destroyed on the show with the exception of the Ingles' House and the School house shown here in model form. The sets were actually destroyed on the last episodes of the series---for legal reasons ALL structures built on the movie ranch had to be completely removed and the property returned to it's natural state as it appeared prior to filming. The two set buildings that were saved , were disassembled and put into storage. Sadly they were also destroyed after a fire burned the warehouse the sets were kept. Here is a birds-eye view showing the layout of the model Three identical models were constructed for the client and a fourth was built for my sister --a huge Little House on the Prairie fan Here's one of the five Oleson's Mercantile models that were built. Each is 95% the same as its "sisters" but each may have a slight variance in a detail. This one is not the same one that appeared in the earlier posts. Those roses Mrs. Oleson planted keep growing outside the fence and NOT in her garden where she wants them It may be hard to tell from these images, but the mercantile features lace curtains, pull shades and goods & wares inside the shop windows!! Also in the works is Doc Baker's/Post Office, Grist Mill, and Bank/Print Office
[caption id=attachment_1881 align=alignright width=533] Image credit: Paige Johanningmeier, left, and Megan Penney (Fayette Sheriff's Office)[/caption] Two licensed nursing assistants working at the Prairie View Management Facility – a psychiatric facility and substance abuse treatment center in Fayette, Iowa - are accused of having sexual relations with two of their patients. An investigation revealed as much when the two male patients had absconded from the facility in late February. It was only several days after the investigation into those missing patients commenced that deputies with the Fayette Sheriff’s Office learned that the missing patients were seen with two nursing assistants from the facility, according to a release from the Fayette Sheriff's Office. Those nursing assistants were identified as Paige Lynn Johanningmeier, 23, of Elgin, and Megan Marie Penney, 26, of Clermont. An investigation showed the two nursing assistants developed relationships with the patients. After leaving the facility with the patients and harboring them, they had sexual relations with them, according to court documents. The patients were at the facility under court order because of mental illnesses. Both of the nursing assistants were arrested on March 6 and charged with sexual exploitation by a counselor, therapist or school employee. ~ The Des Moines Register If convicted of those class “D” Felonies, Johanningmeier and Penney could each face five years in prison and be required to register as sex offenders for 10 years upon their release. Both of the patients were safely recovered by deputies. One patient was taken to a hospital in Linn County and the other was returned to Prairie View for treatment. Penney and Johanningmeier each posted a $2,000 bond and were released on the same day as their arrests.
