We think this picture of St. Therese is lovely and charming. We really connect to it. Therese is one of the few Saints we feel we have an ongoing relationship with, so maybe that helps us connect with the beauty of this piece. It was painted by Edgar Maxence (1871–1954), a major French painter of the time who exhibited for decades in the salons of Paris, and who also did many church and Catholic paintings. He did this one in 1927. We have reason to believe he actually did several, at least two, because we have found a very similar but not exact copy of it out there, also signed by him. The world was fascinated by Therese at the time. This paining, in its gesture of her holding the cross and the flowers, is derived from the one done by Celine a few years earlier. Celine said that was _the_ picture of Therese which helped to make her known and loved by everybody. ** IMPORTANT ** IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER!! There is a white border around the image.
