I've made mittens before for my children but I wanted ones that had more chance of staying on! And so this pattern was developed - I've made the cuff extra long so that the mittens can be worn up the arms (for warmth, but also so that they stay on little hands better). If you don't want the length up the arm, then simply fold down the cuff. The join at the tip of the fingers is done by grafting the open stitches together, so that there aren't any big seams to rub against. The Regia yarn is lightweight, hardwearing and, most importantly, warm. I know my youngest currently loves wearing these, I hope your little one loves them too.

Working in the round, this pair of hand warmers takes the knitter on a little Brioche journey from the plain, one colour stitch, through the reversible two colour to the mixed textured stitch in the middle. The mix of tweed yarn and alpaca create a very tactile finish and gives a warm fabric, perfect for the cold days of Winter. I love the bright pink with the grey tweed tones - warm and cosy in colour and texture.
Velas Ruiz Co is a container and pillar candle business by Alison Ruiz and Nicole Thornett, they’ve been best friends for over 20 years and they’ve been in the candle game since 2019. Their brand is inspired by Spain, where they've both spent a lot of time and would consider a “home from home." Their candles are all individually hand poured in Ashford using soy wax and eco cotton wicks and their labels are made from recycled paper.
In wanting to keep my own 1 year own warm during the colder weather, I designed a cowl/snood for her to wear. A simple cable repeat pattern that fits neatly around the openning of her coat. I've buttoned it so that it doesn't have to go over her head! And chosen a soft wool so that it's not scratchy next to her skin. It's been a great big success. It can be made wider and longer, if desired for older children.

Rhino stands on his penthouse balcony, surveying Beach Road and the girls that he pimps. Sunshine on his back and steroids in his veins, he is the expat King of Pattaya. Meanwhile Detective Copeland is a solution in search of a problem, travelling to Thailand on the hunt for internationally mobile sex offenders. They have just one commonality - local working girl, Joy. And so begins a chain of events, in which each participant seems forced to answer the question: how much evil can one tolerate before resolving to fight fire with fire? | Author: Angus Thornett | Publisher: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform | Publication Date: Oct 23, 2016 | Number of Pages: 214 pages | Language: English | Binding: Paperback | ISBN-10: 1537104470 | ISBN-13: 9781537104478

Mayflies is a new musical by Gus Gowland coming soon to York. Cast members Nuno Queimado and Emma Thornett talk to us about the show.
This easy eyelet snood is chunky and cosy, perfect for the cold days of Winter. It is easy and enjoyable to work with it's simple rhythm that results in an attractive fabric. The stitch is great for those beginning to experiment with lace stitches, as it's easy to get to grips with and grows quickly too. Yet, it's not too simple that it would prove boring for those that have knitted for a long time. I am an experienced knitter and this is one of my favourite stitch patters. It is worked in the round so that there is no sewing up at the end, just the ends of the yarn to sew in, and it can be made bigger or smaller in height by working more or less repeats of the pattern, depending on the knitter's preference.

Hola!!! Besos!! Mª Rosa
This is a sampler worked by Emma Thornett, aged 11. It was completed on 9th August 1855. We have a sampler by Mary Thornett, who is probably Emma's sister. SH.1971.12.3 Samplers were first made in the 1400s or 1500s as a way of remembering different types of stitches or patterns. Over time they evolved into pieces of work made by young girls, proving their knowledge and patience. The Herbert has over 60 samplers in its collection. With volunteers from NADFAS we have recently completed a project to improve their storage and to make them more accessible. You can see some of the samplers on display at the Herbert in the History Gallery, Connected and in What's in Store.

Written By: Patricia Lynne Editor: Sarahjoy Crain In my current SB Journal entry I'm imagining I'm "Decorating A Dream House" A German Equestrian Estate. My Dreamhouse is a generous two stories including a third level attic with two dormer rooms. Ground level has room for parking three automobiles, almost unheard of in Germany. My Germany Dream House also includes horse breeding and training facilities. About Hamburg, My Dreamhouse City: My Dreamhouse is located in Hamburg Germany, the second largest City in Germany, a City which bursts pride. Something new can be discovered, experienced and marveled at everyday. Arts and Culture are at its finest. Worldwide successful musicals, superior and entertaining theatres, a great variety of hotels and excellent restaurants. Historical landmarks from 1200 years of City history. The list goes on. Exquisite shopping possibilities and exciting nightlife. The Dreamhouse is located near Lake Alster, which has a a circumference of 7.6 km. It makes for a great bike ride and is the hub for meeting friends for a lager shandy draft at one of the many cafes. I've been known to announce: "I'm in paradise," while watching the yachtsmen, oarsmen and paddlers enjoying Alster Lake. If you visit this Lake which dates from the 13th century be sure to plan a ride on an Alsterboat. Providing tours of the lake including the canals and the bridges, these boatrides offer unparalleled sights of the city. Lake Alster is surrounded by some of the best residences in Hamburg as well as by many, many landmark buildings, such as the well-known Atlantic hotel and St. Michaelis Church. This Church hosts a 132 meter high baroque spire covered with copper. The spire is a prominent feature of Hamburg’s skyline and has always been a landmark for ships sailing up the river Elbe. Lake Alster, known as the‘German Venice’ as it runs through the center of the city, competes with Venice, Italy for its number of bridges and canals. Also at Lake Alster is the Port of Hamburg. Named Germany's "Gateway to the World" it's the largest port in Germany. It is the second-largest port of Europe and is experiencing major advancements in commercial and residential growth, cultivating multifarious layers of enriching diversity. My City of Hamburg, Germany is bursting with such creativity. You'll see it in its contemporary architecture, art, fashion, events and design. We're going inside now. Please join me in my SB Journal on Decorating A Dreamhouse My German Equestrian Estate Decorating My Germany Equestrian Estate Dreamhouse Formal Entry Borrowing a French look with the Louis XVI Style Chairs, these are upholstered in Pierre Frey's "Les Camees." Les Camees (French transl., the cameos) is a beautiful cotton/linen upholstery fabric with a 59" repeat, making it ideal to position your favorite cameo illustration on these arm chairs. The small table is a petrified tree trunk. It is the photograph we are drawn to and it is of an Andalusian horse in Susan Friedman's Equus Collection. Decorating My Germany Equestrian Estate Dreamhouse Living Room: I love the slight pink paired with deep brown upholstered furnishings. Pink by itself can be considered too feminine, but it's what you pair it with that makes it work - consider a man in a black suit with a pink shirt and tie - it's a dynamic combination. The horse photograph above mantle again is by Susan Friedman, the marble horse head from The Well Appointed House. For our family this room feels soft and warm; it is instantly inviting, something necessary as we work hard outside with the horses, this ethereal space is for us. Decorating My Germany Equestrian Estate Dreamhouse Dining Room I love this dining room presentation. The simple fireplace and decor are fabulous, but most of all I love the 'borrowed' view of the stellar staircase. If it is just the two of us for dinner, we often use the small table and chairs grouped near the fireplace. This gives us the feeling we've got the best seat in the house. Photograph is from Motif Designs and the Something Beautiful Shoppe can help you access some items in the picture. Decorating My Germany Equestrian Estate Dreamhouse Kitchen In addition to working hard, we also entertain a lot. Friends and family from the States as well as newly-made "freundes" (German transl. friends) visit and as a consequence, I love this spacious kitchen. Whether it is in entertaining friends and family, or having coffee with a fellow equine enthusiast, I wanted an area that was easy and efficient. I always work with the best, and here I chose Nancy Thornett Associates. Decorating My Germany Equestrian Estate Dreamhouse Daughter's Room This room reflects my daughter's personality. Mature, feminine, romantic and orderly. Everyone who visits loves this room, as does my daughter. The pairing of the soft pink with whites and greys creates an inviting feeling. No harshness here. Susan Friedman's "Tempest 1" is on display here; Sherwin-Williams' Paint White Dogwood SW6315 was used when originally featured in House Beautiful. Decorating My Germany Equestrian Estate Dreamhouse Master Bedroom And Bathroom This room is perfect for us. It's tranquil. We've got bedding that's like sleeping on a cloud. This master bedroom is from Motif Designs and you can access it through the Something Beautiful Shoppe. Freestanding Oval tub by Waterworks has clean, sculptural lines. I also like the simple 'table' next to it. It is literally a soaking tub, you can have water up to your shoulders . . . every home should have one. These are all part of the things that make our home dreamily beautiful. My Dreamhouse German Equestrian Estate - I could so live here. Couldn't you? Ham And Potato Bake Bonus Recipe Layers of potato, ham and cheese are bound together by a quiche-like egg and cream mixture. This potato bake cuts well and can be served hot or cold, as a side dish or with a salad as a light meal. Ingredients: 3 large potatos 1 cup grated tasty cheddar cheese 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese 2 cups shaved ham, finely chopped 1/2 medium onion, grated 4 large eggs 1 cup cream Salt and pepper Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Thoroughly grease a 7" or 8" pan or bowl. Line the base of the pan with baking paper. If your pan isn't non-stick, line the side of the pan also. Peel and halve potatos. Boil potatos until tender, drain. Allow potatos to cool, then cut into 1/3" thick slices. Combine cheeses in a bowl. Cover the base of the prepared pan with a layer of potato slices. Season with salt and pepper. Top with half the ham and onion. Sprinkle with about one third of the combined cheeses. Continue layering ingredients (seasoning each layer of potatoes), finishing with a layer of cheese. Use a whisk or fork to beat the eggs and cream until well combined. Gently pour the mixture over ingredients in pan. Bake for about 50 - 60 minutes, until the top is golden brown and the egg mixture has set. Cover the bake with aluminium foil if the top begins to over brown before the egg mixture has set. Remove from oven and set aside for 5 - 10 minutes before removing from pan. Cut into wedges to serve. This recipe is from Exclusively Food. Want More? Christian Dixson was born in 1879, the daughter of Emma Elizabeth and Hugh Dixson (she was the sixth child and third daughter!). She married Arthur John Rowe Thornett on 23 November 1902 at her parents’ home Abergeldie, in Summer Hill, Sydney. They were married by her uncle, Rev Frederick Hibberd. Christian was 23 and Arthur was 36 plus he had previously been married. And that is the last reference to Arthur… Not quite, the last reference was in the divorce records lodged by Christian in England in 1910. Christian spent the next fifty years travelling extensively. For many years her home was in Monte Carlo, but with war looming in the mid 1930s she relocated to Australia. She was a part of the ‘social set’ and her movements were often reported on. In addition, she continued an interest in many of the charities supported by her mother, who died in April 1922. Some examples of these are: In June 1922, Christian opened the Surry Hills Welfare Centre. The Evening News (Sydney), on 7 September 1922, reported that Christian was the patron of the “Powder and Patches Ball” raising funds for the “Little Citizens Kindergarten, which is the charge of the Feminist Club”. Christian officially opened the fete at the Trinity Grammar School, South Ashfield, in September 1925. Christian and her sister, Emma Keep, entertained 120 members of the Dulwich Hill Scout Troop at a Christmas party in December 1929. The Canberra Times, on Saturday 21 April 1934 noted that “The Excellencies the Governor General and Lady Isaacs entertained at Government house yesterday afternoon, delegates of the fifth Australian Cancer Conference. Captain and Mrs Chester Wells and Mrs C Thornett are the guests of her Excellency Lady Isaacs at Government House, Canberra.” (Mrs Chester Wells was Christian’s sister, Marion). In an article in the Sydney Morning Herald on 20 August 1943, it was reported that Christian had lost a diamond platinum ring valued at £3,000 somewhere in the city. It was found later in the day by the proprietress of Turkish baths, under a mat in a cubicle at the baths (Christian had visited during the afternoon!). In October 1951 Christian paid for the carpeting of Christ Church, Kiama. Later in the year she presented Sunday School prizes at the Church. She was an avid collector – like her older brother William (who bequeathed his collections and funds to establish the Dixson Library). In order to store all her items, she had specially constructed barns erected at her property near Kiama. She had a special collection of fans which were donated to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. She died on 26 February 1972, aged 93. She had no children, so she gave just over $150,000 to her friends and family and the remainder of her $1,068,528 estate was distributed to twelve different charities. For example: · The Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Trinity Grammar School received substantial sums of money; · Funding was given to the University of NSW to establish a scholarship – the “Christian Rowe Thornett Scholarship” – for postgraduate studies in the development of agricultural science; and · The Powerhouse Museum has a number of items donated by Christian.
