Here's my homework mood board. After carefully thinking and looking at many blogs and my own I got a good idea for what works and what I like. Then I looked myself in my studio and chose my favourite things. Things that inspire me to work, the textures, colours, what I use daily what I make & what I think about. I tried so hard to to over fill it which undoubtedly I did anyway, one day I may learn less is more. But looking at this photo now I'm pleased with the textures, layers, colours, items . I think they are entirely me and they show today's outlook and excitement. www.littleadesigns.co.uk/blog

I think that I am on to something! I absolutely cannot keep my Thread Catchers in my Etsy Shop! They sell as soon as I post them with one this morning being snapped up eight whole minutes after posting. This crazy thing happened. A couple of my "pins" were picked up on Pinterest from my other blog , T. in the Burg, and my Etsy shop kind of blew up! I am getting thousands of blog hits per day and tons of interest and inquiries at my Etsy shop. Who knew that a little sewing accessory would have such an impact? I am writing the pattern for those who would like to make their own and will have it available soon. Thanks to everyone who has expressed their interest in my product. Bet you can't make just one! Another Dresden Dream Thread Catcher along with it's pretty pincushion. These delicious Joel Dewberry "Notting Hill" fabrics make up so beautifully", a very popular model of mine.... And another popular design in fabrics by Holly Holderman. New fabrics from the Moda "Honey Honey" line by Kate Spain. So pretty!

As promised, here is much more about the Crazy Quilt I gave you a 'peek' at a few posts back. This is the second of the two I received requests to show 'more' of....and when I can, I like to cooperate. This quilt took a year for me to make.....well, actually nine months, but it seemed like ten years. I was asked to design and make a crazy quilt for Leisure Arts, Inc., and this is the result. It was 1999. I actually really enjoyed the designing of the quilt AND the stitching, although they chose the colors and these were not the ones I would have chosen....but I worked hard on it and you see the results. There is really only one pieced block, repeated twenty-five times. rotated around and embellished with different designs. Of course, the stitching was my favorite part. I always actually quilt my crazy quilts too...something that isn't always done...and as you can see in the border, I included some beads in the quilting stitches. I love the way this border fabric worked out and was pleased that even though the beads don't show up well until you look closely, the quilting adds so much to the quilt. And, the beads a tiny bit of elegance. I used DMC embroidery floss in the quilt and YLI silk ribbon. The book published using my designs is called "The Big Book of Crazy Quilt Stitches" (Leisure Arts, Inc.,Copyright 1999) and you can still get it in some places. You'll notice the cover, which I've shown here. The quilt on the cover was made 'in house' at Leisure Arts, Inc. They decided to use embroidery thread for all the designs rather than the silk ribbon. All the quilts inside the book were also made 'in house' except the original quilt, which I made myself. I was not thrilled about them substituting thread for ribbon, but just had to get over it. For years, now, I have been thinking I should make it over and do it 'my way' and try a bit of that thread embroidery along with the silk ribbon, however, I am not getting any younger, so may just let that thought die down. We'll see how that goes. The quilt I am showing you here IS the one I designed and made and appears on page 11. I've chosen to show you as many photos as I thought possible before you got bored with the whole thing....so I am hoping you enjoy seeing this quilt...rather than just that little 'peek.' take care out there, pat

Starting with vintage photography and illustrations of models sporting fashions from the 1950s, Amsterdam-based artist Hinke Schreuders applies a rich layer of hand-stitched embroidery, beading, lace, and flourishes of ink to entirely new images that can be both unsettling and exuberant. The pieces seen here are part of an ongoing series called Works on Paper, started in 2008. With her work Schreuders says she seeks to “subtly confuse notions of feminine vulnerability and reinforce the position of embroidery as an artistic medium,” something I think we can all agree she has done masterfully. Machine embroidery thread comes in a variety of colors, weights and fiber content. The three most common machine embroidery threads used are rayon, polyester, and cotton. Sometimes wool and silk are used in embroidery projects as are specialty threads. There are different types of weights of embroidery thread. Heavyweight embroidery thread can be used to… This post is only available to members.
I've taken a lot of pictures of vintage Crazy Quilts, but not very many modern day interpretations. I was especially happy to see 2 contemporary CQ versions at the Arizona Quilters Guild show. All Creatures Large and Small by Gerlinde Hruzek won First Place in the "Other" category. This artist used so many mediums in the making of her quilt: Needlepoint, embroidery, applique, crochet and ribbon work to name a few. The far away picture just does not give justice to how wonderful this quilt really is. The close up shots give a much better visual. Look at the imagination and variety! Someday I would really like to make a Crazy Quilt. (Maybe it's because I'm a little crazy?) These pictures bring wonderful inspiration. I could have stared for hours to visually absorb all there was to see. It almost felt a little bit like an I-Spy quilt. Do you spy 3 cats? Or a fish? Imagination made and quilted by Sheila Groman Sheila wrote "Imagination is a fanciful Crazy Quilt created with applique, standard and silk embroidery, ribbon, lace, heirloom gloves, needlepoint, crewel, beads, cross-stitch, and tatting." Whew! Yes, I'd say Imagination is a perfect title.

It’s already six weeks into the new year. Lots of great things have happened. Lots of mediocre stuff happened too. Lots of very un-good and quite crappy stuff happened too. Life. This stitch piece I am working on is almost about the single-most joyful thing at the moment. And the Monday afternoon
