Back to my “Classic Rock” series of caricature sketches… this week is legendary guitartist, Eric “Slowhand” Clapton. As always the original is available in the Studio Store.
Lots of stuff going on right now, including a short but fun MAD piece for #504, more animation storyboards, a movie poster, a special project for a colleague and I’m just wrapping up the illustration for the 2010 National Cartoonist Society Reuben Awards T-shirt. Whew. Here are some goofy images I did recently as part of what will be an animated gag for a TV show promo. Babies, baby… I got a lot of practice doing these at the theme parks:

From 1990 to 1994 I did pencils for a comic book title called “Married… with Children” for a company called NOW Comics. I did 26 issues in total (I think). The first several issues were penciled by artists Dave Schwartz and Mark Braun, and I took over with issue number 6. After issue 7 they restarted the numbering (#1’s sold better… shocking, I know). Each business got paired with a cartoonist and they they got custom designed windows for the Festival. I got assigned to local gym “F45” (go figure) so I used a combination of existing art and did some new stuff, all with bodybuilding/fitness/beach themes. Mark Wahlberg is part owner of the gym,…
This is a 1/2 page illustration I did for School Library Journal back in 2009 for a story about how magazines were becoming more popular with teenagers at the time. The idea was the kids were ignoring their electronics in favor of physical reading material. Of course I snuck MAD in as one of the magazine. Something tells me the boon in popularity of magazines was short lived. Here is the pencil sketch for that illustration:

C2E2 2021 is in the books. It is still a bit surreal to be at an actual comic con again, and this one was still a lot less busy than the pre-pandemic version. It was still a lot of fun and thanks to all the folks that stopped by to say hello. Basically all the commissions I did this year were caricatures of individuals, so I didn’t bother to take any pictures of anything. I purposefully did not take any online orders nor take any commissions at the show I’d have to do later, because I need to spend all my available studio time working…
