An ornate brownstone townhouse graced by a flowering Rose of Sharon bush on picturesque Montgomery Place in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Inked and watercolored on location.
You might recall that I painted this same scene last summer on a 12x16 calling it “colorful evening”. I was happy with that painting, but I knew that I could have been more intentional with the color and tighter with the brush work. So, right after finishing that piece I began this one. Well, 5 months later, I finally completed it, no it didn’t take me that long, I gave up on it in the summer as the details were exhausting to paint and I just was not feeling it in me to keep going with it. So I put it on the shelf, actually unsure if I would ever finish it. Well several days ago I was going through the paintings on that shelf, and I saw this one and I thought “I need to finish this!” The red townhouse was finished, everything else was only blocked in, but I knew that red house was beautiful. All I had to do was bring the other houses to the same degree of finish and work on the bushes and the road. Working on this the second time went much more smoothly than when I first began, all the little details were a joy to paint. And I’m thoroughly pleased with the outcome and I think it offers a nice comparison to my first painting.

This is my dream house. London town house, beautiful. I've been working in central London all summer, had very little time to draw but here is a very little drawing of a rather grand house.
