In central Shimane Prefecture in southwestern Japan lies a silver mine that is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2007. Called Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine, it was one of the world’s leading silver mines between the 16th and 20th centuries. A short distance from Iwami Ginzan is the district of Omori, a town that once served as a hub for mining activities. It has retained the traditional Japanese townscape and is designated as an important traditional building preservation area. We took a stroll through the Omori district on our way to Ryugenji Mabu Mine Shaft — one of the largest mine tunnels of Iwami Ginzan.

A French colony until 1953, Luang Prabang, Laos still retains the feel and taste of France. Your senses are filled with the smell of warm croissants and the occasional sound of French being spoken while strolling through town. Colonial architecture stands hand in hand, like BFF's, with traditional structures throughout town. Intently holding on to its Laotian heritage... and Buddhist religion... glimpses of the modern world and its constant changes... seem to blend seemlessly with the more familiar way of life. Life appears to be good... while some work hard to make a living. Hospitality has become important to the economy since opening its doors to the world in the 1990's. Khaiphaen is a teaching restaurant where you can get a great meal and help in the educational process. Win.Win. Our favorite meal while in Luang Prabang was savored at the inventive Tamarind... which also offers cooking classes. Another boost to Luang Prabang's economy is the Mekong riverside... where hotels offer... a perch for birds-eye viewing... and afternoon lounging. We opted for a little closer look at life on the river... and the sunset... so we hired a boat with friends... with whiskey and pate' in hand. We take boating... and sunsets... seriously. That's a wrap for Luang Prabang, Laos. Other post can be found here and here. Make sure it's on your travel list.

About The Artwork I like to paint cities. I try to incorporate their atmosphere, their essence into them in such a way that the observer perceives them from them, so that his imagination starts working and completes the stories that this painting evokes. My largest painting of the city is 7 meters, I immortalized the 750-year history of the city of Gyor on it, and it decorates the town hall. We live in one city for many years, decades, and maybe we don't even realize how nice it is. Everyday things become ordinary for us, they are not interesting and interesting for us and we stop noticing them. It's a shame, because if we opened our eyes better and began to notice ordinary things more, we would come across many things that are worth paying attention to. And maybe even our so far mundane city could become beautiful to us at least in some moments. We would immediately feel better living in such a city. Sometimes it's good to change your perspective.
