Over Yonder Cay is a privately owned island paradise in the heart of the Bahamas’ Exuma Chain. Previously home to a quaint fishing outpost, the 72-acre island has been tastefully transformed into a dramatic showplace for stunning architectural design and cutting-edge green energy technology. Rates To ensure the ultimate privacy and the complete attention of the island’s staff, the 72-acre island is only ever rented to a single group at a time. Exclusive island rentals start from USD 44,000 + taxes per day based on an occupancy rate of 12 guests or less. Thereafter, each additional guest costs USD 1,250 per person per night. Please note Over Yonder Cay has a max. occupancy of 28 guests. All prices quoted include exclusive access to the island’s facilities and activities as well as food, drinks, and air transfers by Cessna Grand Caravan seaplane from Nassau or Georgetown, Great Exuma. Location Even though Over Yonder Cay feels like it’s located in one of the most remote corners of the world, it is actually just 200 miles from Florida – in the heart of the Bahamas’ popular Exuma chain. Accommodation The island has 4 villas, spread out in spectacular locations around the property, all within a minutes golf cart ride away from each other. Each villa is uniquely appointed and designed to an amazing level of comfort. The main villa, Meridian House, has four en-suite bedrooms, sleeping eight guests. It forms the highest point on the island with sweeping views of the Exumas on all sides. West Sands (max. 8 guests) is located close to the main beach, and also has 4 bedrooms - two of which share a single bathroom. East Cove overlooks the eastern beach and also sleeps 8 guests across the same configuration as West Sands. South Point is the last of the island’s villas, and is situated on the southern peninsula, surrounded on two sides by the sea. This villa caters for 6, with 3 bedrooms, 2 of which share a bathroom. The villas are installed with satellite TV, a Kaleidescape entertainment library and Crestron control system, as well as wi-fi internet and iPads. A 12-seat movie theatre is located in Meridian House, whereas all other residences have a 70-inch TV. Suites feature a 40-inch TV and en-suite bathroom; double rooms share a bathroom. The island has a unique, cutting-edge hybrid energy system and it is almost entirely powered but wind and solar energy harnessed by three wind turbines and a 1.5-acre solar field. In 2012, 96 per cent of the island’s energy came from renewable sources, and a suite of back-up generators provide power to the island if necessary. The island furthermore offers three spectacular pools and hot tubs throughout the property. We’re sure you’ll find the perfect place to unwind. Best Time to Travel The Bahamas is a year-round destination. Enjoying over 320 days of sunshine a year, average temperatures rarely fall below 25°C. Water temperatures are between 26°C and 28°C. During the hurricane season (end of July to mid-October), weather can be changeable. How to Get There There are a variety of options for reaching the island. Guests may arrive directly from Miami or Fort Lauderdale on one of the island’s two 8-passenger Cessna Grand Caravan seaplanes. Commercial airports near Over Yonder Cay include Staniel Cay, which has a 3,000-foot paved airstrip and is only a 10-minute boat ride from the island, or Georgetown, which has an 8,000-foot runway capable of handling large private jets, and can be reached in just 30 minutes by seaplane. For guests arriving by yacht, Over Yonder Cay can accommodate larger vessels than any other private island in the Bahamas. The island’s ultra-modern deep-water marina is equipped to handle multiple yachts of up to 13 feet of draft at mean low tide.

New Slains, Aberdeenshire Built by Francis Hay, Earl of Erroll from 1597 he had converted to Catholicism and subsequently supported the rebellion of George Gordon, Earl of Huntly, which attempted to reverse the Scottish Reformation. The uprising was defeated and in 1594 the family’s original residence, Old Slains Castle, was destroyed by King James VI in retaliation. Hay fled the country but returned in 1597 and made peace with the King. He recovered his estates but opted not to rebuild his former family seat and instead opting to build this, New Slains Castle. The castle was still an impressive structure in the late nineteenth century and it is thought to have influenced the author Bram Stoker at the time he was writing Dracula whilst he was staying at a cottage in Cruden Bay in 1895. A claim which has been verified recently by a researcher studying the author, seemingly Stoker terrified folk by “method acting” the role he was writing, perching on cliffs looking menacing as the count.Slains remained in use until 1916 when it was sold and latterly had its roof removed descending it into the ruin it is today.
