On a recent trip to Death Valley, I overheard a young girl, maybe 10 years old talking excitedly to her family. She said she couldn’t wait to write in her travel journal about her experience in Death Valley because if one day she wants to revisit this trip, she’ll be able to. Even if she never returns to Death Valley, she’ll have the memories of this trip saved in her journal. All I could think was, this girl has it figured out and is going places - literally. Travel journals are a way to travel to previous adventures if you

I will admit that I am seriously addicted to making these fun notebooks! The one I'm sharing today is special though, as I've made it for my own use on an upcoming vacation. I recorded a video walk through of the entire journal so that you can see all the pages, tucks and tags. I used Eileen Hull's Travel Journal die by Sizzix to cut the covers. I love the size of this at 4.5" x 8.5". In addition to papers from Authentique's Explore collection and a 6" x 6" pad of Authentique's Pastime, I used a lot of scraps from my scrap bin to make pockets, tucks, and tags. It has 3 signatures held in place with elastic bands. Using elastic bands to hold your pages is a real time saver when making this style of notebook or mini as you do not have to individually construct and adhere each page. I love that I can take a piece of paper, score, fold and then place it in my book! Usually I either sew or staple the pages in my signatures but sometimes I do not. That allows me to easily add and subtract pages.
Yes, it really took me TEN years to complete this book for my husband. I literally have started it & taken it apart so many times I have lost count. Then I just kinda started collecting different pieces of paper and embellishments then re-started it again a couple of years ago. It has sat under my work table in a box staring at me...waiting for me to finally finish. I wanted this book to be large, and chunky and full of area's for him to document this trip. This trip was an adventure with good friends, friends he has grown up with. This trip also took place on our 10 year wedding anniversary... But I was HAPPY for him to go. There are so many fun things in this book, I love how it turned out and I'm glad it took me so long to collect, to work on and finish. It has burlap, paint, cardboard pieces, stamped images, rub-on's, lots of inking... This is a fold out page. This is a very interactive book, pages are not all the same size, the pages on the right are actually three pages you are looking at. I love how colorful it is and how well all of the different papers I collected over time all work together. The leather ties on the tags are so fun!! I stamped and layered different stickers on the left page then added a transparency map over the top. I love this mini clock page. and all of the layers and tags on the right page. This is another one of the smaller pages. I love this frame over the photo. Thank you to everyone who emailed me and requested to see the inside pages. I hope this met your expectations!! Oh, and yes, He LOVES his book! He now has one of his very own!
