This frog is one of the last two males known to exist of this species. Originally described by Joe Mendelson of ZooAtlanta in 2008, the species was last observed (vocalization calling male at type locality) by myself, Edgardo Griffith, and Robert Hill (Atlanta botanical Garden) in 2008. Multiple resurveys of the area have failed to produce any living animals. This frog is a very large treefrog which breeds in treeholes meters above the forest floor. the male revisits the treeholes containing tadpoles and it is suspected that he may provide some nourishment to the developing tadpoles via skin secretion or shed skin. several successful captive breedings in the US and in Panama have failed to produce any captive offspring and the adults are now limited to only two males.

Once again the common name treefrog is a misnomer for this species on tepui summits. Tepuihyla edelcae is **very** rarely encountered in trees and only occasionally observed off the ground (only then in bromeliads or low lying shrubs). This species is most commonly encountered calling from water at the edge of shallow ponds and marshes on the tepui summits.

Pacific Chorus Treefrog in a Nepenthes species pitcher! A visit to California Carnivores today in Sebastopol, including meeting Peter D'Amato who very kindly took the time on his "closed" day to sign my book and let us wander about. When I found this treefrog hiding in a nepenthes pitcher, Peter told me there were over 1000 frogs hiding in various places about the nursery. Came back with a lovely Sarracenia Judith Hindle cultivar - the ideal Sarracenia pitcher plant for newbies. Hopefully I won't kill it!
