Tuskers "Alfred and Lucy"
Three elephants were killed instantly on the outskirts of Guwahati in Assam after they came in contact with high-voltage live electrical wiring. The wild tuskers had reportedly come out of the forest in search of food. However, they were electrocuted and eventually died. According to data available with the Assam state forest department and NGOs, out of the 212 elephant deaths reported since 2017, 52 died due to electrocution. This is primarily because as wild elephants move out of forests in search of food, villagers use electricity lines to electrocute or poison and kill the elephants in order to protect their produce.
