Vigorously spreading, Akebia quinata (Chocolate Vine) is a dainty semi-evergreen, twining, woody vine with dangling racemes of small, wine-red flowers with a spicy, chocolate fragrance in spring. The blooms stand out against the bright green foliage of elliptic leaflets which becomes purple flushed in cold weather. If the summer is long and warm, the flowers will give way to a crop of unusual, sausage-shaped, violet seedpods, 4 in. long (10 cm), which split open in fall to reveal small black seeds embedded in a whitish, edible pulp. An excellent climber for covering an arch or pergola where you can admire the flowers from below.

Quite popular in the 1960's, this 5-piece decanter set is a gorgeous Amethyst purple. Venetian in origin, there is no known specific maker, as the glassware created in Venice in the 1960's was usually hand carried home from vacation; that being said, the foil applied stickers are long gone and the beauty is all that remains. Lucky you, this set was well kept, with purple glass completely intact, as is the twining grape vines and grapes design. There are no nicks, chips, cracks, repairs or clouding. The 10" decanter, including a rare sterling stopper with top ring and cork insert, is about 4.5" at the widest point and has a hefty, stable base. Each of the 4 wine glasses are 4" tall by 2.5" across, including the 0.5" clear cut base, also quite heavy. Needless to say, this set will not easily be knocked over, with or without a beverage. The color is probably one of the prettiest purples I've come across, and the etchings only add to the drama. As light shines through, the room is instantly warmed. A perfect gift for any occasion, but Tuesday should also be celebrated... This will arrive lovingly packed for care; shipping is my gift to you. The set can be sent directly to your recipient, gift wrapped upon request. Any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks, and enjoy...

Summer Wine is a favorite of pollinators, and her delicate, nearly single 3 1/2" flowers provide an airy effect of butterflies. Her petals are a rich apricot-coral color, shading to gold at the base. We love her scalloped petals accentuated by striking red anthers. She is a quick-establishing Climber that can’t wait to start pumping out heavily scented blossoms. Summer Wine is a romantic, continually blooming Climbing Rose perfect for gardens in zones 5-10.
As a North American living in London you have a certain vantage point, you're able to see what is uniquely British AND what is not. While the Americans or Canadian's tend to look for the newest, biggest and shiniest next thing the British celebrate the oldest, dustiest and longest standing.
A popular table and wine grape that yields abundant clusters of large burgundy-purple fruit in the fall. Bright green foliage turns deep yellow as cool autumn temperatures arrive. Self pollinating; does not require another plant nearby to set fruit. This vigorous, twining vine works well as a screen for arbors or trailing along fences. Deciduous.
