If you haven't heard the story of the Maryland Goatman, you'll want to. This urban legend just may keep you awake at night.
There has been many stories of people seeing the Mothman. There has been a few that have caught my attention and got me interested in learning more about the Mothman. On December 15, 1967 the Silver bridge connecting Point Pleasant, West Virginia with Kanauga, Ohio suddenly fell at about 5 pm. A loud cracking sound was heard, and one of the main towers of the bridge began to twist and fall. The bridge collapsed into the Ohio River, carrying the cars, trucks, and people that remained on it. Forty-six people died that night, while many were injured. A report that evening prior to the collapse was the sighting of red lights in the sky. Reports showed that many of the people who were injured were first-hand eyewitnesses of the Mothman. Over one weekend there was over five hundred reports in regarding lights and things seen in the sky. The people of Point Pleasant, West Virginia truly believe the Mothman caused the Silver bridge to collapse. Rose, Tammy. "The legend behind Virginia's Mysterious Mothman." November 2010. Description Book Synopsis Which came first--the monster or the myth? Journalist Linda Godfrey investigates present-day encounters with mysterious creatures of old. The monsters of ancient mythology, folklore, and more contemporary urban legend have long captured the popular imagination. While most people in America today relegate monsters to just that--our imaginations--we continue to be fascinated by the unknown. Linda Godfrey is one of the country's leading authorities on modern-day monsters and has interviewed countless eyewitnesses to strange phenomena. Monsters evolve, taking on both new and familiar forms over time and across cultures. In this well-researched book, Godfrey explores uncanny encounters with werewolves, goatmen, Bigfoot, and more. In more than twenty-five years spent chasing monsters, Godfrey has found that it often remains unclear whether the sightings are simply mistaken animals, hoaxes, or coincidence. When all the speculation is said and done, one question remains for fans and researchers: Are the creatures real, or are they entirely other-world? Godfrey suspects that it isn't an either/or question--our reality operates on a scale from dense matter to realms the human eye cannot see. As Godfrey investigates unexplained phenomena, her search for answers will fascinate casual observers and enthusiasts alike. 1. The widespread urban legend that one swallows a high number of spiders during sleep in one's life has no basis in reality. A sleeping person causes all kinds of noise and vibrations by breathing, the beating heart, snoring etc. all of which warn spiders of danger.
