The ABC=123 Brainteasers are math-based logic puzzles called alphametics. They can be used as daily warm-up exercises, challenge problems, extra credit, gifted enrichment, or as a substitute for in-class work for students who have already mastered the current curricular unit. The problems in this booklet are geared for 5th and 6th graders, but can also be used with gifted 4th graders (with proper instructional support). These 12 math puzzles appear deceptively easy at first glance, but can be very frustrating for students who have not been given some basic problem-solving skills to use. Alphametic problems require a great deal of mathematical reasoning to solve. This learning packet includes instructional strategies you can use with your students to ensure feelings of success and satisfaction that comes from solving challenging problems. We've also included two sample problems with some step-by-step instructions to talk you through your first attempts at sovling these problems. Need more help with problem solving strategies you can use with these brainteasers?
