This stunning vine can grow up to 10 feet long! They can be grown on a trellis, fence, arbor, pergola or cascading from a hanging basket. They feature heart shaped leaves that are slightly fuzzy and sometimes edged in burgundy. The vine puts out a profusion of cascading purple blooms surrounded by a pinkish purple calyx. These a reminiscent of fuschia plants. These have a long blooming period of late spring to late fall. Clematis viticella Venosa Violacea ist eine französische Züchtung der Italienischen Waldrebe von 1883 und zeichnet sich durch ihre besondere Färbung aus. Von Juni bis in den Oktober hinein sind ihre einzigartigen Blüten zu bewundern. Der Rand der Blütenblätter ist kräftig violett und die Mitte weiß gefärbt, die feine Maserung der Blütenblätter ist deutlich zuerkennen und verleiht ihnen einen unwiderstehlichen Anblick. Die Ausprägung der Farbe kann je nach Ernährung der Pflanze variieren. Wie fast alle Clematis steht auch sie gerne sonnig mit Schatten für ihre Wurzeln. Ist solch ein Standort nicht natürlich gegeben, kann eine Beschattung für die Wurzeln auch durch eine dicke Mulchschicht oder eine konkurrenzschwache Unterbepflanzung erreicht werden. Der Boden sollte humos und durchlässig sein, da die empfindlichen Wurzeln keine Staunässe vertragen. Die Venosa Violacea wächst klettern an einem optimalen Standort auf bis zu 400 cm Höhe und 90 cm Breite. Um ihre volle Schönheit zu entfalten, benötigt sie dafür eine Rankhilfe in Form von Zäunen, Pergolen oder Rankgerüsten aller Art. Sie ist für eine Kübelpflanzung geeignet und kann so auch Balkone oder Terrassen begrünen und mit ihrer Blütenpracht begeistern. Die Waldrebe gilt als gut winterhart und robust gegenüber der Clematiswelke. Ein Rückschnitt auf 30-50 cm sollte im März erfolgen, um ein Verkahlen der Pflanze zu verhindern.
