About Early 20th century Art Nouveau occasional side table, coffee and cocktail table by Wiener Werkstätte Josef Hoffmann designer attributed, in solid walnut, restored and wax polished. Measures in cm: H 69, W 75, D 47. About this Table From Wikipedia The Wiener Werkstätte (engl.: Vienna Workshop), established in 1903 by Koloman Moser and Josef Hoffmann, was a production community of visual artists in Vienna, Austria bringing together architects, artists and designers working in ceramics, fashion, silver, furniture and the graphic arts.[1] It is regarded as a pioneer of modern design, and its influence can be seen in later styles such as Bauhaus and Art Deco.[2] Following World War I, the workshop was beset by financial troubles and material shortages. Attempts to expand the workshop's base were unsuccessful, and ultimately it was forced to close in 1932. Beginning with the 14th Exhibition of the Vienna Sezession in 1902, the radical distinctiveness of certain Viennese artists began to emerge, setting a foundation for the widespread Modernist movement; this became known as Wiener-Werkstätte-Stil (literally, the Vienna Workshops Style). Among the innovators was the Viennese architect Josef Hoffmann. His cubist sculpture created in 1902 marked a break into independence for many Viennese artists. His works from this period are especially remarkable when one considers that the term "cubism" only found its way into the art lexicon around 1907 to describe the work of Pablo Picasso.

I can't answer these questions for certain but let's give our thanks to Shop-Rite and their cookbook "Quick Dishes for the Woman in a Hurry" for showing us that love knows no boundaries. Ludwig Hohlwein photo: Anton Sahm Ludwig Hohlwein (1874 - 1949), born in Wiesbaden, Berchtesgaden in 1874 was a German poster artist. He was trained and practiced as an architect until 1906 when he switched to poster design. Hohlwein was born in the Rhine-Main region of Germany, though he and his work are associated with Munich and Bavaria in southern Germany. There were two schools of ‘Gebrauchsgrafik’ (Advertising Art) in Germany at the time, North and South. Hohlwein's high tonal contrasts and a network of interlocking shapes made his work instantly recognisable. Poster historian Alain Weill has commented that "Hohlwein was the most prolific and brilliant German posterist of the 20th century... Beginning with his first efforts, Hohlwein found his style with disconcerting facility. It would vary little for the next forty years. The drawing was perfect from the start, nothing seemed alien to him, and in any case, nothing posed a problem for him. His figures are full of touches of colour and a play of light and shade that brings them out of their background and gives them substance" Hohlwein's most artistically important phase was before World War II in the years 1912-1925. A large variety of his best posters dates to this period. He developed his own distinct style with sharply defined forms, bright colours and a good portion of humour. By 1925, he had already designed 3000 different advertisements. 80 colorful and somewhat unbelievable collection of retro dinner party graphics that i curated into my own museum of regrettable foods. I was a child of the 50's and 60's, and regrettably, i have seen many dinner parties and buffets displaying the most incredible, inedible things that were not only called food, but were proudly served to dinner and party guests. Spam was involved in many breakfasts, lunches and evening meals. It was an honored guest on the buffet table. The thing that really gave me nightmares, was the thing that looked like a colorful blob from deep in the sea, containing unidentifiable bits of food. I saw many of those, and never put one in my mouth. The one that terrorized me, was the one with eggs and olives that looked like eyeballs. Enjoy this look at how it really was.... from vintage magazine ads. I can verify it. I have made framed wall art from many of these. I have a spot reserved just for Spam. These are great as art for retro recipe cards, retro cookbooks, kitchen labels, scrapbooks, invitations. These would be awesome on printed menus. Multiple large sizes to approx. 3000 pixels.
