This beautiful book from the 1920's has been digitally restored to its original glory. The book is 75 pages of millinery instruction and designs from the era's experts at the Woman's Institute of Domestic Arts & Sciences Millinery Department. These lessons are specifically geared at making wire and non-wire frame hats using transparent materials like georgette, maline and gauzy fabrics. Year: 1925-1926. The book features beautiful illustrations, photos, pattern diagrams and detailed, photographed instructions for making the hats featured. You will be able to make any of the 17 hats shown in the photo below using this e-book. For some you may need to construct a wire frame. Difficulty level: Advanced. Just as a crochet or knitting pattern would not include a physical "pattern" to cut out from knitted fabric, millinery patterns, especially from this era, are often the same. They are a set of instructions, diagrams, and illustrations for making something and there isn't always something that needs to be "cut out”. But don’t let that intimidate you! Just as thousands of millinery students who purchased these books did nearly 100 years ago, if you read them carefully, and diligently apply the lessons therein, you will be able to construct the hats included. Intermediate millinery experience is a plus. ============================================ INSTANT DOWNLOAD: Your purchase will be available for download the second your payment clears through Etsy. Women's warm winter hat in a vintage 1920s boho style. A handmade hat in textured designer fabric with a art deco design in brown, bronze and taupe. Accented by a taupe satin band with a Florette and rhinestone jewel. Lined in a heavy satin. The accent button may be slightly different than what is shown in the photos. This hat is ready to ship in a size medium (22 1/2"). Take a cloth measuring tape around the back of your head and over your ears. Have the tape meet on your forehead where you want the hat to sit. Do this several times as an accurate measurement is important. When I say "handmade" I mean it! This hat is made using traditional millinery techniques with blocking, hand sewn stitches and full professional workmanship.
That classic hat of the roaring twenties is the cloche hat. Bell shaped with side adornments of flowers, small feathers, and geometric designs, they topped women's heads during the 1920s. Other '20s hat styles include the wrapped turban, the straw summer hat, bucket hat, and various headwraps and headbands. Popular TV shows Downton Abbey and Miss Fisher's Murder
