June 16, 2017 Create a Low-Maintenance Garden! When people think of perfect gardens, they often think of astonishingly beautiful and elaborate gardens. While these are the gardens that really catch the eye and inspire the imagination, there is a big problem: they’re the kind of garden that needs tending to on an almost daily basis! To some, this might sound like bliss. If they have the time and the passion for it, then this sort of gardening can be precisely what you want. But for many people, it sounds like a bit of a nightmare. Imagine having a gorgeous garden replete with incredible flowers and other elaborate vegetation, but not having the time or energy to maintain it. Eventually, you’ll end up with a pretty depressing sight! There are plenty of people out there who don’t imagine anything so fanciful when they think of the perfect garden. To them, the perfect garden is one that is low-maintenance. Of course, it can be difficult to describe even the most basic garden as low-maintenance; if you ignore such gardens for a couple of weeks, they’ll start to look a bit worse for wear! So how can we create a garden that’s really low-maintenance? It’s actually much easier than you might think. First of all, you should think about all the tasks you have to attend to with your average garden. What’s the first thing that comes to mind? It’s probably safe to bet that the first thing you thought of was mowing the lawn. We love our lawns, but having that grass reach up to our ankles can be pretty irritating. But actually getting out there and mowing isn’t exactly our idea of fun! One may accuse you of being lazy, but let’s face it: if you don’t actually have to mow the lawn, then it becomes a task that wastes energy. This is why artificial grass is becoming more and more popular every year. You should check out an artificial grass installation guide if you want to see how feasible this would be in your own garden. Most people don’t seem to be able to tell the difference if you get really good stuff! Next up is getting rid of weeds. Some would make the argument that you should just ignore them, but even people who don’t want to put a lot of effort into their garden can admit that weeds aren’t exactly the nicest things to have on display. While this does require getting out there and doing some work, helping prevent weeds from regrowing is often as simple as avoiding basic mistakes. For example, most people disrupt their soil quite a lot when they pull weeds out - this can actually trigger more growth nearby! So if you want to get rid of weeds, do so carefully - or simply chop them near the root. Finally, taking care of flowers takes up a surprising amount of time. Not only this, but replacing flowers that die (as most eventually will!) also takes more effort than you might be willing to expend. You can resolve this by making sure you plant very durable flowers. Flowers such as sunflowers, marigolds, and begonias don’t require much maintenance at all!
