"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed." ~Albert Einstein There are so many things about life that are mysterious to me! So many things to learn and discover. We are constantly growing up. I learn something new about myself everyday! Something about the things I like, about the way I approach situations, about my feelings, thoughts, and those of everyone around me. We are all so mysterious, and so beautiful. To take a very small example from my life at the moment - My sister is getting married and I am having the WORST time trying to figure out what to give her! You would think I would know her taste having lived with her for the last twenty odd years, but I am learning new things everyday. When people walk into the antique store looking for something to add to their collections I am almost always surprised by what they collect. One lady I remember had nearly a thousand teacups, another collected salt and pepper shakers, one gentleman had an enormous collection of antique and vintage eyewash cups, and our store once purchased a collection of saucers from a lady who owned 18,000. They covered every wall, door, and cupboard in her home! Collections are important and exciting. When I was growing up I collected dolls (among other things). I only have one of those dolls today - the very first I was ever given. Her name is Cecelia Sue. My Mum's collections have greatly influenced my own evolving style over the years. Her treasures have become as precious to me as they are to her, perhaps mostly because they are hers, and they represent a part of her that I love very much. I have taken some pictures of small collections of things in my home for you to see and maybe you will tell me a little about what you love to collect! Also included is a brand new picture I drew recently. Enjoy! I am linking up with: Show and Tell Friday Feathered Nest Friday Pink Saturday Drawing by Jennelise

This will give the pillow a fuller look. *FYI* I have been collecting fabrics and textiles all my life. Old rose florals are my passion. My friends and family call me "Material Girl" My favorite past times are hunting for vintage fabrics/textiles/buttons/beads etc. at flea markets, antique stores and garage sales. My IDEAL vacation would include these activities, along with visiting family, friends As time goes by, I am realizing that there is not enough time in the day, to list a completed pillow, for each fabric that I own. If you order, you will receive a high quality pillow cover that you will cherish, for years to come. I also make lampshades. Those of you who have followed our little home tour so far, will know that I've been on a bit of a mission to tackle one room at a time, changing things up a bit, re-organising and having a good old clear out in order to share our 'Home Sweet Home' with you. Today, it's the turn of the master bedroom. This has been the hardest room so far to photograph. I don't know why. Perhaps I find it a little difficult to share my most intimate space with you! This is my hiding place, my retreat. It's where I recharge my batteries, dream sweet dreams, and where my girlie side really come to the foreground. Poor hubby has never (well, almost never!) complained about sleeping in a pink, lace enveloped paradise of femininity! He has threatened to stick some surfing posters on the walls, but so far it's been empty threats! Phew... Please forgive me if there is a bit of repetition here from a previous post! I did share a little furniture move-around with you a while back, and it might creep in here again. But, I thought I'd be thorough with the new tour! I'm not going to do as much waffling on as in the previous instalments of our home tour. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves... A place of rest... A place to read... A place to reflect... Somewhere to write... It's where my shoes live...an 'oh so happy place'! It's where I play dress up, figuring out my own style, or lack there of! A place for happy memories... My veil from our wedding day still hangs happily in a corner of our room! The princess (and her pea!) have finally found a home to rest! A place for favourite things... Some thrifted treasures... Our retreat... So, a quick look into our 'Home Sweet Home'! I hope you enjoyed having a nosey-around! Until next time! Blessings, Tania ♥♥♥

This Fall, after you're done raking up all leaves in the yard, again, take a break and rest your head on a pile of these cool new Leaf Shaped Pillows.
Just a little reminder, if you don't mind?... This Saturday, the 19th October, sees the Vintage Bazaar event arriving at the Cheese & Grain, Frome once again...Organisers Lizzie and Clare have asked stall holders to give their stands a Christmassy feel to provide visitors with lots of inspiration for some early Christmas shopping. Always happy to oblige ;-)), I've been making and sourcing some festive treats. Happy to pass on lots of seasonal cheer is Joy, one of my one-of-a-kind large angel decorations. Joy is dressed in an adapted antique cotton baby gown, which I hand embroidered with the festive message. She wears a golden tiara and her wings are decorated with a collection of tiny trinkets to finish this special keepsake. For a while now I have wanted some of my creative pieces to be seen as more than 'just' craft and to move into the realms of art. I work hard to make sure each of my handmade fairy or angel dolls are unique, selecting beautiful lace, textiles and tiny accessories to complete each one. Its important to me that those who buy my work feel they have a special keepsake to treasure, and not something that has been churned-out by the hundreds. On discovering an old box frame in a little junk shop (of just the perfect size it was uncanny!) I decided this could be the way forward. Bonnie Doon, dressed in fine antique laces and sparkling trims, has been placed inside, rather like a Victorian specimen, to be forever sealed in time as an heirloom artwork. Joining her is another carefully executed artwork... This is Miss Alice She proudly stands inside her elaborate antique frame, wearing her fine lace gown, feather cape and vintage mink hat. The rusty key that she carries, suggests she has a secret to hide... and her fine carved wings glisten as only mother-of-pearl can. *** For those who would prefer their fairies to fly free, I have come up with three more girls to offer for sale... Figgy Pudding Eve Since taking Eve's photo, I decided she needed a little extra 'something' and now she wears a wisp of vintage marabou around her shoulder, a la Mrs. Clause!... (All of the other Christmassy decorations surrounding her in the photos will be coming to the fair too!) My final fairy is Elm Lace-Bark, dressed for the autumn season. A sweet collection of vintage festive framed nursery prints. *** Daisy is my newest large-size rag doll to be completed. She is dressed in a charming selection of floral vintage fabrics, with a hand embroidered woolwork linen pocket which I added to her gathered skirt. Keeping her warm is a lovely moss green pure lambswool cardigan with a fun mishmash of buttons decorating the front. (She also wears an original WWII sweetheart brooch which reads Daisy.) She said you wouldn't mind if she were to flash her bloomers, so she could show you the lovely fine lace at the hems?! ;-)) (Bloomers made from a c1940's floral Sanderson.) Her traditional country look sets the scene for the plans I have for other half of my stall. The gorgeous hand embroidered framed flowery tapestry (above) will be hard to part with. I also used an old tapestry to make the yummy cushion - It features a house surrounded by a colourful cottage garden, all beautifully stitched. Hours of work from a time gone-by. The reverse. This is Biddy, posing with that lovely tapestry...She really likes the colours in it...And as you can see from her cute little outfit, she really likes colours! Her skirt is a 40's Sanderson fabric, which is teamed with a pure wool Fair Isle sweater. Biddy also wears rose/paisley bloomers and a Victorian cotton petticoat. I've covered this simple mirror frame in a pretty linen fabric as another one-off piece for the home...I love the pink roses in this fabric. And this old Lines horse-on-wheels will be trotting off to the fair tomorrow too...Hope you can make it along to join in the fun... Have a lovely weekend whatever you have planned, I'm off to my shop now - I'm trying to finish one last doll in time for the fair...Wish me luck! Niki x UPDATE: Yes, I made her in time!..Please meet Tess. Sorry about the quality of my photos, but it was dark by the time I got home from work this evening. Tess is dressed in a Fair Isle sweater and has a Liberty print skirt... She's happy to be joining Biddy tomorrow at the fair...I think they will become the best of friends ;-)) All packed and ready to go...Have a lovely weekend, Niki x
I've used a pretty vintage Sanderson floral fabric to make this summery handbag.... Combined with a corner from an old napkin, Victorian glass button... And lined inside with classic black and white ticking. Another style of bag using the same fabric combination... with a c1930's wooden button. A pair of cushions, fashioned from vintage hand embroidered linen, featuring a crinoline lady. Reverse is ticking, with two ties for ease of laundering. A shoulder bag made from more of the hand embroidered linen and ticking. And I've made two of these dainty little handbags. I used a different hand embroidered fabric for these, with a pleasing pastel colour combination. Lined inside with C19th French linen. Mother-of-pearl button and loop to fasten. Reverse. A busy week! Niki x
Welcome - So nice to have you here! It's been a little while since I was last sat typing at my blog, but I've been busy with all sorts of adventures... I visited Elaine's lovely jumbly fair at Pamphill and came away with treasures... Then onto Poole for a romantic night away with hubby for Valentine's Day... Where we were able to say our first 'hello' of the year, to the sea. We travelled home the next day via the Tank Museum at Bovington. We'd passed it so many times over the years, but the joys of having three daughters meant that Dad was always outvoted! With a visit long overdue, there was no backing out this time... ;-)) There were some fine tank specimens - a huge collection in fact... A very good museum... If you like that sort of thing... ;-) *** Back home again and I've been making a few bits and bobs... Another Easter bunny fairy... This is Miss Cottontail. She's sold - thank you! A large Guardian Angel named Grace. I'm sold - thank you! And I've also found some time to make something just for me for a change. A colourful cushion made from some of my favourite vintage fabrics and a hand embroidered cottage picture. *** A week later and another day out where we headed for Hereford. Spotting Baileys en-route, we thought it worth a quick call-in, having seen it mentioned in countless magazines over the years. On entering, a 'No Photographs' sign is perhaps not the friendliest of welcomes(?) - We perused the immaculate displays and after purchasing two wooden washing up brushes, decided it wasn't really the place for us... (All a bit too perfect for my taste - I like my vintage to look a bit more lived-in. Baileys' style is perfection in it's imperfections!) Hereford is a city that we'd not visited before. It was lively around the shops, but peaceful in the Cathedral grounds. We took in Monmouth in the afternoon, on the way back home... Crossing the old Severn Bridge from Wales back to England. *** As ever, there's been more vintage shopping at the flea market - Here are some of my finds. Trinkets and treasures from a French Château's attic. And lots of lovely fabrics to add to my stash. Vintage Sanderson linens. GORGEOUS c1940's Sanderson And classic 'Salad Days' by Sanderson again. This satin box now sits on my dressing table - I have a thing for old boxes. And a ceramic egg trinket pot which dates from the early 1900's. *** The youngest member of our family (who is walking already!), turned one year old at the end of February - We celebrated by all going to Noah's Ark Zoo Farm. We fell in love with the beautiful Giraffes - so gentle and graceful. *** Little-one wasn't the only lucky girl to receive gifts...I had a surprise parcel arrive in the post last week from my lovely friend. I couldn't quite believe my eyes when I opened up the box. It was filled to the top with wonderful treasures. My favourites being these soft satin Liberty print ribbons. More ribbons and trims added to the bounty... And buttons and beads... Fabrics and lace. What really surprised me was that my friend has been asked to exhibit some of her beautifully hand crafted items for sale at the gallery shop at Stourhead at the end of this year...And I'm sure she could have made use of such treasures herself! I hope I can do them justice. *** Finally there's my website to mention...To be honest its been taking up a lot of my thoughts just recently. I feel I may have made a mistake to concentrate mostly on my handmade fairies - I think I rushed into making decisions and changes to my site after Christmas, without giving myself time to stop. Perhaps I've not been thinking straight for a while...I've been feeling a little lost...It's been more of an adjustment than I first imagined, giving up my bricks and mortar shop. I miss the routine, surprisingly the stress and hard work, but mostly I've missed talking to people; some of my customers had become friends and I've suddenly lost contact with most of them. January and February have been difficult months, with no fairs to offer my wares for sale, until last Saturday's Vintage Jumble...(Sorry I forgot to take photos at the jumble, but it was a fabulous event and I'd like to thank everyone who visited my stall and took away some of my vintage goodies! :) Now things are feeling brighter and I'm looking forward to having another go with my on-line business. It's had another small make-over since the initial changes I made - I hope you like them. Whilst coming to a decision about what to do next, I kept looking back at some of the photos I'd taken at my first shop in 2003. source I'm at my happiest when making one-off items, but realise it can be difficult to find a market for them. It is far easier to become known as a 'bag maker' or 'cushion maker' for example, but this isn't truly the direction that my heart is being pulled...But for now it may make better business sense, at least until we are able to move house and I can re-evaluate again. source I've always loved reworking vintage textiles into usable and/or decorative items...To suddenly stop doing that doesn't feel right. And now that Sanderson have started to reproduce some of their iconic vintage fabric designs, I'm thinking there must be a market for the originals that I've safely squirrelled away for years - It could be the right time to start using them again in my work. So, to reflect my change of heart, I wanted to give my website (another!) new look. A bit of primitive hand stitched embroidery was involved to give it a more handmade feel. I've used the stitched words to create the clickable buttons to navigate the site. My gorgeous girl designed a new banner for me (and one for my blog too), which I am thrilled with. I've listed some new handmade stock. This cushion is made from a hand worked tapestry, combined with a patchwork of vintage floral fabrics. The back is a glazed cotton by Sanderson. *** The second cushion is similar in style with a needlepoint in the centre, surrounded by colourful vintage floral fabrics. The back is the same Sanderson as before. I've also made a little barkcloth handbag, with crinoline lady needlepoint. It fastens with a c1930's button and fabric loop. Fully lined inside with a glazed cotton. I've also made a large floral cushion, which I have put aside for one of the upcoming spring fairs, so will show more of that nearer the time. Thanks for stopping-by and catching-up with me here. Enjoy the rest of your week, Niki x
"Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home." ~Diane Edith Sitwell (1887-1964) Anyone who knows me well knows how much I love home and everything to do with it. I love eating dinner as a family, I love sitting in the family room in the evening with a book or a movie, I love coming home after a holiday and the way that everything seems new, I love being surrounded by small treasures collected and loved over the years, I love the quiet corners and the places that reverberate with happy noise, I love the memories that seep into the walls of every room and make home the most beautiful place in the world. I also love the comfort of home and I adore crawling into my bed at night and falling asleep. My cousin sent me a message recently with a link enclosed for Bella Notte Linens. She wrote in the message that every time she looked through their catalogue the photos made her think of me! I of course immediately went to the site to have a peek and what I found is the most gorgeous line of bedding in the entire world! Every piece of linen and lace - every pillow, robe, quilt, and coverlet is absolutely beautiful! No matter what your taste or style is you will find something at Bella Notte to make you swoon. I'm sure that Bella Notte is well known to many of you but I was so entranced by their beautiful photos I had to share some with you in case you have never heard of them! Here are my favorite pictures from their online album (access through their site) showcasing items from this year's collection as well as from two and three years ago. I hope you will visit - you will not be disappointed! I have also done a little sketch in honor of their beautiful linens. Enjoy! Drawing by Jennelise
Yes....it's still winter my darlings. As we speak, there is a cold rain falling outside my window. I would rather have rain, than snow. But. it's not ours for the choosing. It's the gift for the day. Be grateful. Wake up you sleepy head and get out of bed! Choose to be kind....choose to be considerate... choose to be thoughtful to those you love and even to those you don't. Savor that first cup of morning coffee Take comfort in your home Be glad for company snoozing away in the guest room. They must treasure your friendship....... Spend the day being productive Discover the enjoyment in a beautiful dining experience Let's not fret over calories..... savor that afternoon cup of tea with a few mincemeat cookies Spring is sure to follow.... Be blessed
Do you love those cushy box cushions with the hand stitched details? I sure do! So, when I was brainstorming what sort of projects to make for my upcoming Art Gallery Fabrics Willow Look Book I came up with a nursery playroom theme and what better project to add to a playroom than French Mattress
