Nato a Port-au-Prince, Haiti, 31 Maggio 1957. Il suo interesse per l'arte è iniziato in tenera età. Al liceo, suo fratello Henry Bastien, artista di rilievo, ha insegnato disegno, prospettiva e l'uso delle tecniche del colore e gouache (una tecnica che utilizza mescolato con acqua e colla per creare vernici colori opachi). Durante i suoi anni di scuola è stato molto attivo nella cerchia degli studenti d'arte che partecipano a diverse mostre, ha vinto un premio in un concorso di disegno promosso dall'Associazione Culturale haitiano-tedesco- nel 1975. Ha lavorato come contabile ma poi si rese conto che la sua vita non era dietro una scrivania, ma di fronte ad un cavalletto, cosè ha deciso di dedicarsi interamente all'arte. Nel 1979 entrò nella bottega di suo zio (Paul Desmangles, scultore), che gli ha insegnato a scolpire. Poi ha preso alcuni corsi di disegno industriale presso il Centro Culturale di formazione di Haiti. Dal 1980, ha partecipato a numerose mostre in Haiti, Europa, USA e Giappone. Il suo lavoro è molto apprezzato dai collezionisti d'arte di tutto il mondo.
