In 2013, we were engaged to work on the interior decoration of a substantial Edwardian house in Hampstead. The fine house was in need of significant refurbishment, and we worked closely with the local Hampstead architects Charlton Brown in developing internal layouts and plans for the new owners, a recently-married young couple. These developed to […]

"Autumn Days" A collage portrait of Wentworth Place (now Keats House) where Romantic poet John Keats lived from 1818 to 1820. It was here Keats wrote some of his best-loved poems and fell in love with the girl literally next door, Fanny Brawne, who with her family occupied the right-hand side of the house. During their brief and tragically short engagement he wrote Fanny many letters, in some of which he mentioned "their" thrush, singing in the garden. It was in autumn that the dying Keats left Wentworth Place, bound for Italy, in search of a kinder climate. It was also the season which inspired him to write what is considered to be one of the most perfect poems in the English language, To Autumn. Autumn Days has been selected by the Keats House Museum for sale in its shop as prints and cards. This is a professionally printed open edition matte print, printed on 250 Italian Fedrigoni paper and is standard A4 size (21 x 29.7 cms/11.7 x 8.3 inches), including white margins, ready for framing. Autumn Days - Keats House, Hampstead by Amanda White discreetly printed in lower margin. Signed on the back. Attractively packaged in cellophane sleeve with labelled backing board then carefully wrapped (see photos) for safe shipping. Autumn Days is part of my ongoing Writers' Houses series of collages made using discarded magazines. Cards of the houses have been featured in The Guardian and Homes & Antiques magazine. But come on y'all it was seriously a dream of mine and I guess I am still pinching myself a little! It's kind of like when I painted my floors white and couldn't shut up about it. So two things today....I am going to post all of the pictures in case there is that one person who is scratching her head wondering what the heck I am talking about. Dr Johnson, his House in Gough Square and his Cat, Hodge 17 Gough Square, off London's Fleet Street, was the home of Dr Samuel Johnson. It was here he compiled his great work, A Dictionary of the English Language. This was one of the first writers' houses I ever visited as a child. It is wonderfully atmospheric and I have tried to convey the bustle that must have reigned in the gregarious Doctor's home. At the first floor window is Miss Anna Williams, a blind lady of letters who acted as Johnson's housekeeper and presided over the tea table. Downstairs is Francis Barber, Johnson's Jamaica-born manservant and eventual heir. Also looking out is actor David Garrick, a frequent visitor and a friend from childhood. Look closely and you will see the shutters are made from clippings of the dictionary. This card has been selected for sale at the Dr Johnson House Museum shop. My writers' houses cards have been featured in The Guardian, Stylist, Homes & Antiques and Chinese magazine Little Thing. They are blank inside for your message and measure 17.5 x 12.5 cms folded. The reverse carries an explanatory text. Comes with a brown kraft envelope, in a cellophane bag. More cards, prints and originals in my shop: amandawhitedesign.etsy.com Thank you for looking!

About Represented by George Billis Gallery, NYC & LA --Kenny Harris's latest body of work was informed by two recent residencies in Tuscany, at Borgo Finocchieto and Monteverdi. Inspired by the heavy Tuscan light, Harris paints the landscapes and interiors of this art-historically rich region with a fresh eye and attention to detail. He was particularly inspired by the unique architectural elements and imperfections of the Italian interiors. States the artist, "There's just something about painting a 3-foot- thick stone or plaster wall that has been there for centuries. It's typically irregular lighting conditions that speak to me. Also, irregularities in construction or details that you'd never see in houses in the U.S. are things that catch my eye."
