This photo was included in a post on We Love DC. The Obama administration has embarked on a largely uncharted path into the world of interaction with the public through social media (uncharted for Presidential administrations, that is). It’s a path that, these days, has a lot of potential but with no prior template to follow is fraught with the danger of “un-coolness.” This weekend, the White House took its first foray into Google+ Photowalks. I was fortunate to be invited along. We began by walking around the South Lawn, visiting the First Lady’s kitchen garden, and learning some of the background of the gardens. This photo of the South Portico of the White House was taken during that time. This is an angle you can see during the semi-annual garden tours but conspicuously absent are the horde’s of people you have to share the narrow space with. Following this we toured the Eisenhower Executive Office Building and got to meet Pete Souza, the President’s official photographer. I’ll post more of my photos here and on Google+ over the coming days, but if you’re interested in seeing what the rest of the group came up with, you can check out this link to Google+ plus.google.com/u/0/s/%23WHPhotowalk (for some reason Flickr rewrites the link unless I insert it directly). The photos are public so you don’t need an account. This picture is composed of 4 sets of bracketed images merged to HDR in Photomatix Pro and combined into a Vertorama using Photoshop CS4. Lens correction applied in Photoshop CS4.
