An original early 19th-century graphite drawing, Laura Burrard, Turbaned Man Kneeling in Prayer. This interesting small drawing is by Laura Burrard (d.1880), member of the important Burrard family of Lymington, Hampshire. Laura Burrard was daughter of General Sir Harry Burrard, 1st Baronet of Lymington. A talented artist, Laura's botanical watercolours are in the collection of the National History Museum in London (and featured in their 2014 exhibition Images of Nature). Laura's cousin was the poet Caroline Anne Bowles (who married Poet Laureate Robert Southey)—by whom we also have watercolours for sale, from the same collection. Laid down on backing paper. This picture forms part of a fascinating collection of largely early 19th-century works we have for sale connected with the important Burrard family of Lymington. Taken as a whole, the collection tells of the family’s artistic talents, including that of artist and seaman Admiral Sir Charles Burrard; Laura Burrard, whose drawings are in the National History Museum; and poet Caroline Anne Bowles, future wife of Poet Laureate Robert Southey. They picture the places in Hampshire where the family grew up and which remained significant to the Burrards through the 19th century, along with Naval subjects, evidencing the importance of Naval achievement in the family’s history. In addition, there are some unusual subjects relating to New World exploration, forming a fascinating record of contemporary interest in this amongst the English ruling classes at this time. Some minor age toning as shown. There is a small loss and crease to the paper at the far lower right corner of the sheet.

This unusual depiction of binary stars accompanied by female nudes is reproduced from 'Twin Stars', a watercolour painting by Luis Ricardo Falero. This print would be ideal for any room in the home. Falero was a Spanish artist who specialised in painting female nudes in fantasy settings. He also had an interest in astronomy. Twin Stars is an excellent example of how he often combined his art with his astronomical interest. Note: this print is not 100% true to the original – it has been enhanced digitally from an image of the original painting and is printed to order using top quality durable materials. Beautiful original watercolour by Edward Stamp RI. The piece is sold mounted and framed. Image size: approx 16cm w x 26cm h. Outer frame size: approx 34cm w x 46cm h. See more work by Edward Stamp. This piece can also be purchased using Own Art - payment by 10 interest free instalments of £18.50 per month - contact the gallery for full details. About Edward Stamp RI Born in London in 1939, Edward Stamp was evacuated during the war to a small farm in Dunton, Buckinghamshire. This quietly beautiful corner of England made an impression on him that was to dictate much of his later work as a landscape painter. His youthful talent for drawing took him to Northampton School of Art, where he gained the National Diploma of Design in 1961. Whilst employed as a tractor driver, he painted and sketched the land he worked, happily combining the life of farming with that of an artist until 1970. An increasing appreciation of his work at a number of One Man Exhibitions in the provinces caused him to devote more of his time to painting, and in 1973 his work first shown in London with such success that fine art became his full time occupation. Edward's paintings, both in oil and watercolour, faithfully represent the landscape around him in his adopted Buckinghamshire. Farms and barns, the fields and hedgerows are all captured in his inimitable style. In 1980 he was awarded the Bronze Medal for the most outstanding watercolour by a non-member in the annual exhibition of the RI, and was subsequently elected a member in the same year. In 1981 his wood engravings merited his election as a member of the Royal Institute of Painter Etchers and Engravers. Edward is now one of the leading painters of his generation. His work has been published in cards, calendars and print form and his originals are in collections both public and private worldwide.

Microscape #10 This is the tenth in a series of paintings I did in 2016. Origin of the series: I love to paint outside, but I'm not always inspired by grand, sweeping landscapes. I'm often drawn to little details - an interesting mushroom or flower, the moss on the surface of a rock - so I chose to focus on the beauty in small places, creating MICROSCAPES instead of landscapes. Please check my listings for others in this series! - Paper size is 9x12 inches - Painted on artists' quality, acid-free watercolor paper - Signed and dated on the back. Can be signed on the front if buyer prefers. - Painting will be shipped flat, in cellophane wrapping, and protectively packed A bit of fine print: - Please note that this listing is for the original painting only. The photo with the mat and frame is just for reference. - Returns and refunds are available if you are unsatisfied with the painting. I kindly ask that if you contact me within two days of receipt, and return the item with tracking information within two weeks. Buyer is responsible for all shipping and handling costs. - As the artist, I retain all copyrights to my paintings. Buyers agree that the painting will not be reproduced or used in other products without prior written consent from me. Please email me if you have any additional questions!
