Covers of the Week #23 For my first such post, I want to honor the late, great Elaine Duillo (1928 to 2021). She left us on July 30 of this year and had been retired for some time. But her wonderful illustrations live on.
Jerica MacMillan has revealed the cover for A Very Grumpy Christmas! Releasing November 22, 2021 My neighbor is a Grinch. Since I run the Christmas Emporium and sometimes moonlight as an elf, that's kind of a problem for me. No surprise, though. When I brought over cookies to welcome him to the neighborhood this summer, he slammed the door in my face. Until he brings his kid to visit Santa one of the days I'm working as an elf, and I realize there are key parts of their story I'm missing ... 1. The little girl is his much younger sister, not his daughter. 2. He's her guardian since their parents died in a tragic accident. Now all of his handsome, broody glares make so much more sense. As one of Santa's elves, I make it my mission to make this Christmas as special for them as possible. Which somehow includes trespassing on his property to hang Christmas lights and braiding the little girl's hair regularly. Despite his glares and grumpiness, I discover the soft underbelly of the beast. Will this Grinch's heart grow three sizes as well? And if it does, will it have room for me? A Very Grumpy Christmas is a standalone, small town, neighbors to lovers romance featuring a grumpy single dad and the sunshiny neighbor who's determined to make his Christmas better. Author: Rick R. Reed Publisher: Dreamspinner Press Length: 210 pages Published: May 1, 2015 Buy on Amazon Buy on DSP Blurb Henry Appleby has an appetite for life. As a recent high school graduate and the son of a wealthy family in one of Chicago’s affluent North Shore suburbs, his life is laid out for him. Unfortunately, though, he’s being forced to follow in the footsteps of his successful attorney father instead of living his dream of being a chef. When an opportunity comes his way to work in a real kitchen the summer after graduation, at a little Italian joint called Fiorello’s, Henry jumps at the chance, putting his future in jeopardy. Years ago, life was a plentiful buffet for Vito Carelli. But a tragic turn of events now keeps the young chef at Fiorello’s quiet and secretive, preferring to let his amazing Italian peasant cuisine do his talking. When the two cooks meet over an open flame, sparks fly. Both need a taste of something more—something real, something true—to separate the good from the bad and find the love—and the hope—that just might be their salvation. Review Wow! What a story. Romance, yes. Heart break, yes. Devastation, yes. Hope… most definitely. This was an absolutely lovely story. Two men suffering heartbreaks. There are levels of pain. These 2 are hurting so badly. But it takes a special someone to turn the tables, to make the pain lessen, to make you smile and believe. Vito and Henry find that in each other. It all begins with Henry taking a chance. He knew working at Fiorellos would change his life, to the extent it does? I don’t think he ever saw coming. I cried a lot. I did, but I smiled, and found myself engrossed in this tangled web of love Rick Reed weaved so well. This is a gorgeous story. A story of pain, overcoming, and falling in love over and over again.
