You may recall our recent release of our Top 10 Client Appreciation Gift Designs of 2018 but now it's time to mix it up a bit and share with you our Top 10 Wedding Welcome Gift Designs of 2018! This was really tall task to select just ten but thankfully we came together as a team and finally managed to agree... Classic and Neutral DC Wedding Welcome Boxes Since it's no secret we're fans of neutrals around here, it's probably not surprising that these elegant DC welcome boxes for a special Soco Events couple makes our list. We selected ivory deluxe gift boxes with the most gorgeous taupe ribbon along with simple gift tags and welcome booklets showing off the A + G's monogram. For sweet treats, we included US Capitol cookies by Sugar Studio and caramel popcorn packaged in clear treat boxes and tied with coordinating ribbon. The most notable part of the entire gift design was the bride's family's secret recipe for a small batch nut mix. Such a special touch! We also included water and mini amenity kits in muslin bags, custom printed with the couple's monogram. Images: Lissa Ryan Photography Orchid Inspired Wedding Welcome Gifts While these next wedding welcome gifts were for a Boston wedding with Rex & Regina Events, they weren't Boston-themed. The wedding design was inspired by orchids so we went in that direction instead. We chose crisp white gift boxes to allow the purple to pop. We included individually wrapped Godiva chocolates and sub-packaged them in a clear treat bag with a custom sticker featuring the orchid design along with flavored almonds and the best part...a custom orchid cookie by Sugar Studio. The welcome note provided the weekend itinerary and pulled through the orchid motif as well. We finished the gifts off with "Welcome to Boston" gift tags featuring....you guessed it...the orchid design again along with deep purple ribbon! Images: Lissa Ryan Photography DC Welcome Tote Bags These custom DC tote bags are proof that you don't have to fill your welcome gifts to the brim with items in order for them to be impactful. Many times, it's quality over quantity! Stephanie B Design created this adorable outline of DC with our couple's names and we had it custom printed on these sturdy canvas totes. For contents, we included a Washington DC chocolate bar in the most beautiful watercolor packaging, locally sourced Olivia Macaron treats and the most fun of all...the cookie depicting T+W's adorable goldendoodle! Stephanie B Design also created the floral inspired welcome letters with the festive greeting "Oh good, you're here!". Planning by Cheers Darling Events. Images: Abby Jiu Photography Black & White Ohio Wedding Welcome Boxes The goal for these black and white wedding welcome boxes for an Ohio wedding with MMJ Events was to offer a nod to the location of the wedding all while remaining in line with the aesthetic of the wedding. We started with matte black gift boxes and filled it with a mixture of sweet and savory treats. We chose Ohio-sourced chips and small batch seasoned peanuts along with chocolate chip cookies bars in the most perfect black and white packaging. For beverages, we opted for the black and white "Boxed Water is Better" carton style waters to round out the design. The black and white welcome notes and coordinating gift tags remained consistent with the invitation suite sent to all wedding guests and featured the couples elegant monogram. Images: Lissa Ryan Photography Christmas Inspired DC Welcome Boxes Being a huge fan of the color green, these custom wedding welcome boxes for a DC wedding with Ida Rose Events were ones we were sad to see leave the studio once they were done and ready to be delivered. We chose elegant ivory boxes to allow the rich hunter green to stand out. Deep green San Pellegrino bottles were an obvious choice because of color but also provided an upscale celebratory vibe. Custom cookies in the shape of the US Capitol dome by Sugar Studio and Virginia peanuts were included along with some nods to the couple's interests. We selected gummy horses to honor the bride's equestrian family (oh my, these were hard to find!!!) and soccer and golf ball chocolates to represent the groom. Each of these candies were sub-packaged so the aesthetic remained in line with the color palette of the gifts, the gummies in small kraft boxes tied with hunter green grosgrain ribbon and the chocolates in white bakery bags which allowed the candy wrappers to show. Images: Lissa Ryan Photography Mad-Men-Meets-West-Elm Welcome Boxes These next custom wedding welcome gifts were far from ordinary, and in the most fun way possible! Our mission was to create masculine-leaning and modern welcome boxes for a mad-men-meets-west-elm inspired wedding designed by Grit & Grace. We selected navy storage boxes from Container Store and added elements representing the couple including coffee from one of their favorite Richmond, Virginia shops, a set of German Shepherd cookies depicting their two beloved pups (by District Desserts), and even the groom's favorite....EPIC bison jerky. And can we talk about the welcome booklets?! These were, by far, my favorite part of the entire project. Claudia of Fig2 Design created luxe welcome booklets tied with silk marigold ribbon, in the same exact shade that we tied the boxes with. And instead of us using gift tags, Claudia created mini insert cards with "Welcome" to slide into the brackets on the storage boxes. Definitely a unique, modern spin on the traditional welcome box! Images: Lissa Ryan Photography Fall Inspired Wedding Welcome Gifts Given our obsession with all things fall, when we have a couple come to us with a vision of gifts that are completely fall-inspired, we are 150% on board! For these next set of wedding welcome boxes for an upstate New York autumn wedding, we were tasked with using traditional fall colors along with wood burned gift tags in the shape of leaves that the bride had her heart set on long before she contacted us. We selected kraft gift boxes for a warm, cozy look and finished them off with rich merlot ribbon and affixed the wood tags. (We used thinner ribbon than usual to allow the leaves to take center stage). For contents, we had a mix of sweet and savory with NY-sourced chocolate bars, flavored almonds, and popcorn that we sub-packaged in clear treat bags and finished off with rustic twine and a color coordinating wax seal. The best part was the welcome letter design featuring a mountain illustration and gorgeous script font in the matching shade of merlot, designed by Just Write Studios. Images: Lissa Ryan Photography Black Tie Wedding Welcome Boxes When we think quintessential black tie weddings and the gifts that go along with them, these DC-inspired welcome boxes immediately come to mind! For C+J's Mellon Auditorium celebration, we used elegant ivory gift boxes to allow the burgundy to pop. We included DC Capitol dome cookies by Sugar Studio, gourmet peanuts, and macrons from local Olivia Macaron. We also created mini amenity kits in drawstring bags. And the most meaningful addition of all, the custom printed chocolate boxes featuring Ethel M truffles, a family favorite of the brides. With the help of Just Write Studios, we designed classic welcome letters with ivory ink on burgundy card stock and coordinating gift tags featuring the couple's monogram. Images: Lissa Ryan Photography Destination Wedding Welcome Baskets These next gifts were a ton of work to assemble due to a large amount of sub-assembly within each gift but all the extra work was well worth it! The result was lush, tropical-inspired wedding welcome baskets for a destination wedding in the Dominican Republic for Jessica and her fiancé, co-owners of Social Supply Events. We used structured woven baskets with lids and filled them with thoughtful items that can be enjoyed on the beach such as dried mango, coconut, plantain chips, Voss water, and SPF. We even included sunglasses for each guest! The custom paper took the gifts to a whole new level with gift tags personalized with each guest's name and welcome letters featuring vellum and wax seals. Last but not least, we closed the baskets and added luxury turkish towels to the top underneath raw edge ribbon and greenery! Images: Lissa Ryan Photography Washington Nationals Inspired Wedding Welcome Bags For this project, most all guests were visiting Washington DC from outside of the US and the couple wanted to show their guests a weekend filled with elements of the American experience. Naturally, one of the main themes of the weekend was baseball. The couple treated all wedding guests to a Washington Nationals game and so we created custom-embroidered Nats hats for inclusion in the custom DC tote bags along with Nationals water bottles. (The hats featured the couple's initials with a heart and their wedding date for a sweet personalized touch) We also included custom USA cookies by Sugar Studio and Washington DC chocolate bars. The welcome booklets were more than just your average notecard with the weekend itinerary! While these did, of course, outline the schedule for the weekend's activities, we also included illustrations and step-by-step instructions for country line dancing for guests to follow during their first night in town. (Our couple rented out a popular DC barbeque restaurant and provided dance lessons for everyone!) An amazing time was had by all and we were honored to play a role in welcoming guests to town for such a fun-filled weekend in DC. Illustrations and DC skyline. Michigan-based LePenn Designs created the skyline motif for tote bags as well as the illustrations for the welcome booklets. We always love creating custom welcome gift boxes with special personal touches and these for our recent Easton Events couple were no exception! Image: Red October Photography We used the couple's dusty blue color palette for their spring wedding at Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards in Charlottesville, Virginia as the inspiration for the gift design. We selected crisp white gable boxes for the outer gift packaging and adorned each with stretchy silk ribbon from Torn & Tied. A clean white sticker with lettering by Poppy & Scooter helped to tie the gifts together with all of the other print materials involved with the wedding! Image: Red October Photography Each item inside the gift had special meaning to the couple including Bequet caramels, a personal favorite of the couple's from their time spent in Jackson Hole. Even more meaningful were the pistachio nuts from a business owned by the bride's grandfather! He even had custom packaging designed to coordinate with the overall color palette. Image: Red October Photography Image: Red October Photography Chesapeake crab chips and Berger cookies, both from Maryland, rounded out the gift contents as a nod to the family's Maryland roots. Image: Red October Photography The welcome booklets weren't merely a folded notecard. They were instead accordian-style welcome booklets featuring a heartfelt message from the bride and groom in addition to useful details surrounding each of the weekend events including wedding welcome party, wedding ceremony and even the farewell brunch. We were especially smitten with the custom illustrations Poppy & Scooter did of each event location! Image: Red October Photography These were one of our absolute favorite custom gift designs of spring 2017 and we hope the guests enjoyed them as much as we loved creating them. Katie Durski, owner of branding and web design business Ribbon & Ink, has been a Marigold & Grey client from the very beginning. While we love ALL custom gift design projects that we decide to take on, we especially love when we get the opportunity to completely re-design corporate gifts on behalf of a long-time client of ours. Usually this is because their business is growing and they want to "up their game" in the client gifting department. Or, they're celebrating a milestone in their business such as a re-brand. For Katie, it was both! Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Katie works solely with female creative entrepreneurs so the look and feel of the gifts needed to be feminine to mirror the look and feel of her brand. We immediately chose a spa theme for the gifts in champagne, blush, ivory and white tones. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Contents included rose scented bath bombs, a chardonnay scented candle, Essie nail polish, chai tea, a tea cup with the Ribbon & Ink logo and an entire spool of Torn & Tied silk ribbon! To be honest, I'm not sure which item I'd be more excited to receive if I were the recipient of one of these. Each item is so high-end and special. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography For the gift packaging, we selected chic, fresh white gift boxes and adorned them with champagne silk ribbon, also by Torn & Tied. (This means Katie's clients received silk ribbon in two different colors...ahhh!!!!) We also included dried eucalyptus for an added accent. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography We not only incorporated Ribbon & Ink's branding with their logo on the tea cups, but as we also included it on their custom gift tags on the outside of the gifts. The tags were soft, airy and feminine, perfectly mirroring the Ribbon & Ink brand. In addition, the font used for the "thank you" text on each tag was the same font used throughout Katie's website and marketing collateral. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography We are over-the-moon thrilled with how these gifts turned out and are looking forward to hearing how Katie's branding clients react when they receive them! As a professional gift designer, I often get asked for advice on what to include when curating wedding welcome gifts so I figured it was time for a three-part blog series all about these types of gifts and today is Part One! When designing wedding welcome bags, I take into consideration many factors such as location, wedding style, budget, color palette and even the personalities and interests of the couple. But overall, the most important thing is to make sure the gift are as well-balanced and as unique to the couple and their wedding as possible. Read on for some ideas today and then stay tuned because we have two more posts coming in this series later this week and next! Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Local Keepsake Including a meaningful keepsake is a fantastic way to leave your guests with something to remember your wedding by. I adore city-specific coasters or even a notecard set featuring artwork depicting landmarks of the city where you’re getting married. You can even let your gift packaging double as a keepsake by choosing a tote with a screen-printed map of the area. You can also highlight hobbies or interests that play a role in your relationship. Have fun and get creative! DOWNLOAD OUR FREE GUIDE: TOP 10 TRENDS IN WEDDING WELCOME GIFTS Sweet Treat This is a great opportunity to choose something special to you and your fiance. Do you and your fiancé have a favorite bakery nearby? Maybe an individually-wrapped brownie or cookie from this establishment would be the perfect sweet (and meaningful!) snack. Are you having a seaside wedding? Salt water taffy is a great ocean-inspired option to satisfy your guests’ sugar cravings. If you want to tie in your wedding color palette into the gift, macarons are a fantastic way to show off your wedding colors, these from Olivia Macaron. Or, perhaps you simply want to welcome your guests with a celebratory vibe. Champagne Gummy Bears or Champagne Bubbles by Sugarfina are always a Marigold & Grey favorite! Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Savory Snack Balance out the sweet with some good old-fashioned salty! Some ideas we like include salted peanuts, flavorful crackers, bagel crisps, pita chips, trail mix, popcorn, gourmet potato chips or maybe even some high-quality beef jerky. Beverage Let’s face it. It’s pretty annoying to check into a hotel and discover that bottled water isn’t included in the room. Help your guests stay hydrated especially since they’ll be enjoying cocktails and dancing the night away at your reception! For an added touch, consider sparkling water. Mini San Pellegrino bottles always look nice. Also, consider seasonally appropriate drinks such a gourmet hot chocolate for a winter wedding or a spring IPA beer from a local brewery. Image: Lissa Ryan Photography Custom Paper Goods Chances are, you have all the particulars spelled out on your wedding website as well as the invitation suite you mailed out. But, once guests arrive in town, they may not have easy access to all the info. Make it easy for them by creating a weekend timeline along with any necessary maps to help them get to where they need to be. Also, don’t forget a heartfelt message thanking your guests for making the trip. Take it a step further and create a booklet of the “who’s who” of your wedding party or even the background into your love story. Finishing Touches Lastly, pull it all together with memorable finishing touches that take the gifts to the next level and really stay in your guests memory long after the wedding is over. This means ribbon that color coordinates perfectly with your wedding palette, tied in the most perfect bow. It can even mean greenery, either inside or outside of the box or bag. Since we began offering concierge gifting service for custom wedding welcome bags, boxes and bags back in 2014, we've noticed several trends that have come onto the scene and aren't showing any signs of slowing down! Dogs in Gifts Our clients love their dogs. I mean LOVE. So naturally it makes sense that they rally behind the idea of incorporating their pups into their welcome gifts. From custom cookies to hand-drawn or painted illustrations for their welcome booklets and gift tags, we can't get enough. We've had several Old English Sheep Dogs, multiple Goldendoodles, German Shepherds, a Bulldog or two, and several other breeds that I'm sure I'm not even remembering. (Image: Abby Jiu Photography; Cookie: Sugar Studio) Welcome Booklets As couples opt for full blown wedding weekends with several events in addition to the wedding itself, welcome booklets have become a great way for couples to share logistical details with their guests. They map out the events of the weekend (including welcome dinner, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, after party and farewell brunch), share transportation information, list fun things to do in the area along with a personal message of thanks from the couple to welcome their guests to town. (Image: Lissa Ryan Photography) Custom Maps Maps are still very much a thing. Whether they're practical walking maps that actually help direct guests around the area or more decorative maps, these maps seem to be a wedding trend that is here to stay! We love that they can pull double duty by being used in the invitation suite and then again in the welcome booklet or even on a tote bag for guests to take home as a keepsake! (Image: Emily Belson Photography) Monogramming We've heard people say that monograms are just a Southern thing but based on what we see, nothing could be further from the truth. Of course we have done plenty of southern weddings with monograms everywhere, but we've also done gifts with monograms for modern urban weddings too! Ranging from classic to more whimsical, they really are a great way to make the gifts personal to the couple! This is definitely a trend in welcome gifts that we hope is here to stay. (Image: Lissa Ryan Photography) Locally-Sourced Especially for destination weddings, highlighting locally-sourced snacks and keepsakes is a fabulous way to welcome guests to town. By giving them a little taste of the city they're visiting, they immediately feel at home and intrigued by the area around them. Who knows, thanks to you, maybe they'll even extend their stay beyond the wedding and take some time to explore! (Image: Lissa Ryan Photography) Couple Specific Our favorite thing to do when designing custom wedding welcome gifts is reflect elements of the couple's life together in the gift boxes. From a custom cookie with the logo of the alma mater where they first met, to sweet treats from each of their respective home towns, or even a water bottle featuring the sports team they're both obsessed with, the possibilities are endless! (Image: Marina Mauletkali Photography) Welcome Dinner Displays With the increasing popularity of welcome dinners where all guests are invited on top of people's ever-growing obsession with AirBNBs, we are more and more delivering the welcome gifts to the location of the welcome dinner where they're styled beautifully on a display as guests walk in and then are able to take one back with them at the end of the night. This way, all guests get one no matter if they booked into the hotel block or not. (Image: Lissa Ryan Photography) What do you guys think of these trends? Which is your favorite?
