The "Phrygian" helmet owes its name to the characteristic forward-facing tip, reminiscent of typical helmets from the Classical Antiquity. It's also called "Italo-Norman" helmet because they were commonly used by Norman knights who moved from Sicily to southern Italy. This type of helmet was very popular in Europe especially during the 12th century. It is made of two 2mm steel pieces welded in the center, the nasal protection is 4mm thick. It has an interior suspension system with slightly padded fabric, riveted to the inner perimeter of the helmet. It also has a leather strap with a brass buckle. Available sizes: S: The inner circumference measures 58 cm, forming an oval of approximately 17 x 21 cm. M: The inner circumference measures 62 cm, forming an oval of approximately 19 x 22.5 cm. L: The inner circumference measures 65 cm, forming an oval of approximately 20 x 24 cm. Approximate weight: 2 ~ 3.3 kg. Availability: 1 or 2 weeks depending on stock. We send all our items worldwide! "The whole is more than the sum of its parts." Aristotle Last month my husband and I went on a cruise to Norway. We've been on several cruises in the past, so I knew that the ship would be a mecca of patterns, and I wasn't disappointed. Patterns on walls, floors, furniture, lights. In other words, everywhere you looked there were patterns, even on the water in the North Sea. Walking through the ship taking pictures of walls and floors and furniture....I can only imagine what the other passengers must have thought! It took a few weeks, but finally I got around to deconstructing some of those patterns to come up with the step-outs for new tangle patterns. But before I get to that, I wanted to share a few of the patterns I saw that I did not try to pick apart. This first one is a light hanging from the ceiling of one of the lounges. Does anyone else see Mooka in there? Here are two more - the one on the left was on a wall, and the one on the right was a floor which reminds me of Dex. This one is an etched glass door with a wall of different colored lights behind it. Zendala? The next one was a fabric covered wall (with metal strips dividing it into a grid, just like a tangle pattern). These two were taken in a store in the town of Bergen. When I took the following photo I wasn't really focusing on the water, but once I put it on my computer I was immediately drawn to the pattern that the water made in the wake of the boat going by. And I couldn't resist taking a picture of the roof on this building next to where our ship docked in Eidfjord. Last, but not least, is this photo of a tiled border going around the pool deck on the ship. This is the first one that I have deconstructed (at least a part of it). I have named the pattern "Cruze" in honor of where it came from. You start with "blocks" of 5 lines forming a diagonal. At first I tried very hard to get the lines to form a square block, but realized it really doesn't matter if they are squares or rectangles, or whether each one is the same size as the next one. Once you get the flow of the curved lines connecting those blocks, it really isn't hard. You go down one side (step 4) then turn and go back up the other side (step 5). On the last step you cap off the two ends. I enjoyed playing around with this pattern, but got really excited about it when I created the following variation. If you place the blocks of lines in a skewed manner like shown below, you get a really interesting variation that has a lot of movement. The top section is unshaded and the bottom one is shaded. On the following Zentangle I used the original pattern, but added a little bit of black fill, and really think it makes the pattern pop. I turned the picture 45 degrees to post it here because as I was looking at it I tilted my head and liked what I saw. It looks to me like a hanging basket of flowers. Then I used the Cruze variation to design the following piece. I just LOVE the way this one turned out. This is definitely one of my favorite Zentangles ever. Stay tuned for more new patterns coming soon. Maybe one will be called Norway.
Every now and then we see a tangle that is so simple yet apparently complex and open to multiple interpretations and tangleations that we just have to share it. That description applies to this fantastic tangle created by Mimi Lempart, CZT, of Florence, Massachusetts. It's called Mi2. You can read about how to do it here on tanglepatterns.com. Here is one of Mimi's tiles using Mi2 as a monotangle: Maria and I were admiring this tangle that Mimi describes as similar to huggins and W2. After breakfast this morning I started exploring: I love the minimalist opportunities this tangle offers. I also love the natural shading possibilities. I was reading on tanglepatterns about challenges creating the initial seed shapes. So I tried starting with dots and used the arcs to define the seed shape around the dots. This also gave me a chance to play with a different arrangement of seeds: I put six dots in a row in both directions. (I put a seventh dot on the top row by "mistake." So I just made it really big and part of the design.) Here's the sequence I used: Thank you Mimi for contributing such a fun tangle that is simple, beautiful and open to different interpretations. While the similarities to huggins and W2 are noticeable, this tangle is unique in that the strokes (in this case, arcs) only go in one direction, whereas in huggins and W2 they go in two directions at right angles to each other. Well, I guess you could call this more like alpha doodling but I am still having trouble cranking back up to paint so when all else fails...doodle!!! And along that line...when you're feeling blue...doodle! When you're feeling lonely...doodle!!! When you're feeling bored...DOODLE! When you're feeling like you'll never create another painting in your life then...DOODLE!! Actually I am not feeling blue or lonely, just unmotivated to continue to try to paint "the big one." I'll paint again but I think I just need to recharge a bit. So when you need to recharge..DOODLE!!! Oh, also I wanted to tell you about this fabulous pad of paper I did this on. It's called Clairefontaine Pupitre. This is a graph pad (you know how I love a grid!) and it's wonderful for markers, pen work, pencil work but doesn't like watercolor. It's smooth as a baby's behind...and I hve felt a sweet little smooth one recently! I love this paper. It comes plain white too. It's like writing on silk. Watch this wonderful video suggested by Nita. Doodlers, Unite!!!
This listing is for a "Fragment from the Necronomicon" an art print for use as a prop in any type of fantasy rpg or larp gaming or just to frame and hang on the wall of your sanctum sanctorum. This listing is for 1 Necronomicon Fragment page, the page is a print on parchment paper, it measures 8.5x11 inches. The print has been stained and weathered by hand for an ancient appearance. Staining and weathering will vary slightly as the process is done by hand on each print. The Necronomicon Fragment is a hand finished print of my art, inspired by the works of horror grandmaster H. P. Lovecraft and the Cthulhu mythos. Thanks!
